  1. Hi. This is stereotypes and humor activity.
  2. Ah, this is for English 3 59 and mining is
  3. Daisy van liter.
  4. So first I wanted to dive into the actual project
  5. itself for this project.
  6. I decided to ask my co workers who just started
  7. working at the company about three months ago.
  8. I'm not very familiar with them, but they are friendly
  9. and I assumes, would be a good icebreaker for all
  10. of us.
  11. Um, it was hard choosing who I wanted to Elektra
  12. this project because I was worried about hearing something them.
  13. You might hurt my feelings.
  14. It's a little bit about myself.
  15. I am 22 years old, a Mexican American.
  16. I speak two languages, Spanish being my first.
  17. I'm 53 and I weigh about 1 35 Um, I
  18. don't wear makeup.
  19. I hardly ever do my hair.
  20. I do have an ax Mexican accent.
  21. I've been told, um, I'm an English major, and I
  22. also work as a claims adjuster.
  23. So for our first trial, I went ahead with my
  24. first co worker and his name is Steve.
  25. Um, I won't name any last names because they were
  26. pretty embarrassed about this question.
  27. to begin with.
  28. So my first question was pleased to irritate me.
  29. Um, and the response that I received, or rather so
  30. a quote that I pulled was if I had to,
  31. I would say your problem.
  32. You mean hotheaded.
  33. Great cook on you.
  34. Watch a lot of soccer.
  35. I would have to assume that your English is not
  36. decorate. You most likely have family that works in house
  37. cleaning her landscape.
  38. Ah was pretty impressed by ah, this stereotype, huh?
  39. But I decided to submit that photo on the bottom.
  40. Right. Um, because it does kind of reflect Steve Chester's
  41. as he was answering this question, I did provide some
  42. background about me after this.
  43. Um, I did also respond Thio his stereotypes.
  44. Um, I didn't mention that I don't watch a lot
  45. of soccer.
  46. Not as much as I wish.
  47. My mother is a housekeeper, and my father's a landscaper.
  48. Um, my English isn't quite perfect.
  49. Why do for fit some words and I forget to
  50. spell sometimes as well.
  51. Stuart's response to new information use pretty off guard by
  52. some of the things that were kind of corrected.
  53. Um, but he did say these air just stereotypes or
  54. no, Really interactive with Hispanic people, for I just moved
  55. here. From what?
  56. West? Not excuse, but this is what I see on
  57. TV. Okay, pull that specific quote.
  58. Um, because afterwards he did explain to me, um, that
  59. where he crew up, there isn't a lot of Hispanic
  60. people. It's predominantly white.
  61. So there's not a lot of interaction rather than, um
  62. what he views hump on TV.
  63. My next trial was my co worker number two.
  64. Um, and I changed her name, actually put it under
  65. care and for this one.
  66. So as well, I asked the question, Please stereotype me.
  67. This response was I would say You're very tough person,
  68. like what you say has to happen.
  69. And based on terror stereotypes, I would assume your family
  70. are into Drug Lord businesses.
  71. I would also add I would also add that you
  72. like to use Prezi.
  73. I then went ahead and provided some background information to
  74. her as well on me, you know, cultural background, and
  75. then just kind of what I have going on with
  76. myself. I did respond as well to the stereotypes of
  77. my family's of island.
  78. It'll we're pretty peaceful and united I do believe that
  79. I have some family ah, wrapped up in some bad
  80. behaviors. However, there's very little to no communication with them.
  81. Um and yes, I do like spicy food.
  82. So her response to the new operation people a specific
  83. quote. She said, Have you seen the movies?
  84. Cardio said, I pay some of my information on that.
  85. She said, It's only really harsh.
  86. I began telling you this.
  87. I'm so sorry.
  88. Um is pulled to specifically peaceably tightened with home Steve
  89. screens. Cop sees comments prior to this, um, for the
  90. perception of what they see on television, I'm a conclusion.
  91. I just wanted to go over, huh?
  92. My co workers had made it very clear that this
  93. image is not, um, what they actually feel about who
  94. I am.
  95. And, um, people that are also Hispanic and have, you
  96. know, relatively the same pop ground.
  97. Um, they said that they are basing it off of
  98. what they've seen and portrayed on social media on TV
  99. in general.
  100. Um, but I did want to tie a park in
  101. two. My reflection on the absolute true diary part in
  102. Indian, um, that it's not always what other people perceive
  103. it to be.
  104. Um, we've talked for you in this class about people
  105. considering, um, native Americans to have it all because they
  106. have casinos.
  107. They have wealth.
  108. Um, but Sherman Alexie kind of points out, you know,
  109. there wasn't a lot of money at home, Um, when
  110. he had to put down his a chicken because, you
  111. know, Levi, his parents didn't qualify That, um, his pet
  112. waas of importance.
  113. Um, and it kind of ties back to us as
  114. well. We don't, um, value pets as well For myself.
  115. Growing up appearance were kind of like a If you
  116. need so veterinary help, it's just not gonna happen.
  117. Um, so it's just kind of those things as well.
  118. Um, and then he had also put in the cowboy
  119. need. If American look on the Old Western like that,
  120. a lot of people like to see home for his
  121. images, and they kind of feel like that's kind of
  122. hits home as well.
  123. When people think Hispanic, they go.
  124. You know what?
  125. Big Mexican flag, even though they're just generalizing it to
  126. that one.
