  1. welcome everyone to a virtual back to school night.
  2. Yeah, I'm coach Schmidt.
  3. I'm your son's pE teacher this year.
  4. I'm a Valley cushion alum.
  5. I graduated from Valley in 2010.
  6. Um I went to college often Kansas at a place
  7. called sterling College.
  8. Um and right when I graduated, I came back to
  9. Valley. I've worked there ever since for seven years.
  10. My coach, high school, JV football, 8th Grade Boys Basketball
  11. and also Junior High Track and Field.
  12. Mhm. The reason I chose to teach P.
  13. E. Um as I just really have a passion for,
  14. for exercise and I think it's great getting kids outside,
  15. keeping them active, especially during their school day when they're
  16. inside in class all day.
  17. It's nice to get their minds off of some other
  18. classes and get them outside learning new sports, teaching them
  19. different fundamentals of different sports.
  20. Um just get to see them compete against each other.
  21. Um it's it's a passion for me and I love
  22. getting to watch them run around and have fun, just
  23. learn all the different sports throughout the year and finds
  24. ones they love.
  25. So throughout the year we have 12 different units Um
  26. in the span of three weeks.
  27. So each unit is three weeks.
  28. Um so we always say if someone doesn't love the
  29. unit, we're doing, we're only doing it for three weeks.
  30. Um and if they do love it, they have three
  31. weeks um to get as much of that sport as
  32. they want and some of the sports we do right
  33. now, we're doing handball.
  34. Um Next unit will be doing water polo, we do
  35. basketball, like football, soccer, pickleball.
  36. So a big variety of sports for the kids to
  37. try out and find which ones they like.
  38. Um And hopefully maybe one day they'll uh pick it
  39. up if they haven't already.
  40. Um And once they get to high school start competing
  41. him in some of the sports that we do and
  42. P. The grading for P.
  43. E. A little different than other classes.
  44. They get a 10 points each day there in class
  45. two of those are for dress code or for wearing
  46. therapy uniforms for for being respectful and for offer participation.
  47. So 10 points for the day, The main one, they
  48. usually lose points for his dress code.
  49. They forget to bring their p closed the school.
  50. And unfortunately the parents are always the ones that get
  51. blamed for it not getting into their backpack or starving
  52. in the wash.
  53. So um we stress that they do their best to
  54. bring it to school.
  55. I know we're not doing lockers right now so they
  56. got to take it home all the time and bring
  57. it back.
  58. But it's also good to buy multiple sense of P.
  59. Close so that they can bring some home and wash
  60. it that week and then just have another set ready
  61. to go.
  62. We're waiting for a shipment to come in with more
  63. sizes as we already handed out some at the beginning
  64. of the year.
  65. So once that gets in.
  66. Um if your son wants an extra set of p
  67. closed they can definitely get that um injuries and sickness,
  68. we know what happens.
  69. Um If a kid comes to class not feeling well
  70. or you know has some an ankle injury or something
  71. that happened the day before.
  72. Ah We usually give them that class off, parent email
  73. just works fine.
  74. So if you email us, I'm saying your son isn't
  75. feeling well we'll let them take the class off.
  76. They can go to a study hall if they want
  77. to. I'm and work on some assignments from other classes.
  78. Or they can stay in the class and just kind
  79. of hang out.
  80. They can also work on assignments in the class as
  81. well. They'll just sit off to the side um during
  82. class. But after that they need a doctor's note if
  83. it's an ongoing injury or sickness.
  84. Um So it's kind of a one time thing to
  85. get out of p.
  86. Um For just having to pair an email and if
  87. it extends after one class or two classes and we
  88. just asked for a doctor's note to be sent to
  89. the office just so everybody knows what's going on.
  90. Last thing I want to talk about his hygiene.
  91. Um Just making sure that when your kid comes to
  92. school after pe class they have some sort of deodorant
  93. that they can put on, We have showers for them
  94. to use if they feel comfortable doing that it's just
  95. for the best interests of your student or child and
  96. also for the teachers the rest of the day whose
  97. classes they have to sit in.
  98. So if they could bring some sort of stick deodorant,
  99. that'd be fantastic.
  100. We advise or just kind of asked that they don't
  101. bring the spray deodorant Just because if there's 30 different
  102. kids using spray deodorant, um that are all different brands,
  103. uh, that smells just kind of lingers the rest of
  104. the day.
  105. It isn't great for all the other classes and teachers
  106. that have to be in the locker room.
  107. Yeah, if you have any questions throughout the year, questions
  108. concerns. Um here is my email, I'm Schmidt vcs dot
  109. net. Feel free to reach out to me.
  110. This is the best form of communication um for me
  111. and I'll get back to you as quick as possible
  112. when you, or if you have to email me questions
  113. about anything, honestly, just email me if you're concerned about
  114. anything and I'll get back to you right away.
  115. Um but yeah, I look forward to teaching your kids
  116. throughout this entire year and having a positive impact for
  117. them after a year of just craziness, I hope they
  118. can get back to uh a year of some normalcy
  119. and hope to see you guys as well someday.
  120. So I get to meet the parents of all the
  121. kids that I'm wants to teach this year.
  122. So thank you, I hope you guys have a wonderful
  123. night. Hope to see you soon.
