00:01 - 00:05
Hi, my name is Shelley Homeister and I am the
00:05 - 00:07
creator of the Sound for Souls Music Festival.
00:08 - 00:10
And today I'll be telling you a little bit more
00:10 - 00:13
about that and what we do, who we are and
00:13 - 00:15
what we want to do more of in the future.
00:16 - 00:19
Start out what is Sound for Souls.
00:19 - 00:24
So Sound for Souls is a yearly music festival that
00:24 - 00:28
is thrown on in all of the profits will go
00:28 - 00:31
towards immigrant Children who are left here in the States.
00:33 - 00:35
The emission of sound for Souls that sees people's you
00:36 - 00:39
love of music vessels to help raise money for these
00:39 - 00:42
Children who are having to represent them themselves in a
00:42 - 00:42
court of law.
00:43 - 00:45
Now, these Children are often left alone.
00:46 - 00:50
They lack resources and they need rehabilitation for none of
00:50 - 00:51
which is their fault.
00:52 - 00:54
Now we want to be able to provide these Children
00:54 - 00:55
with proper legal counsel.
00:56 - 00:59
Also just an emotional support and a place that these
00:59 - 01:03
Children have somewhere to cry to break down and to
01:03 - 01:06
be with If for whatever reason their parents are gone,
01:06 - 01:09
they have someone they can talk to about that and
01:09 - 01:09
not hold that.
01:10 - 01:14
It a little more about the issue at hand here.
01:15 - 01:18
Immigration has been a very sensitive topic for a very
01:18 - 01:21
long time and that's completely understandable on both sides.
01:22 - 01:25
But where do we stop looking at each other from
01:26 - 01:30
demographics and looks rather than just human to human?
01:30 - 01:34
And I think it's unfortunate that these kids are left
01:35 - 01:39
here, whether their parents are deported, incarcerated or even death,
01:41 - 01:43
it's not their fault and they should not be here
01:43 - 01:46
by themselves and not know what to do next in
01:47 - 01:47
their life.
01:48 - 01:51
Now. Sound for Souls wants to be able to console
01:52 - 01:56
these Children and not only just give them money, but
01:56 - 01:59
help shape their future in this community and in this
02:00 - 02:04
country and how they can make things different for themselves
02:05 - 02:10
to not just what we do for them, donations for
02:10 - 02:16
sound for souls goes towards these rehabilitation apartments, it can
02:16 - 02:19
go to court fees, lawyer fees, you know, we have
02:20 - 02:22
a lot of lawyers who volunteered to do things pro
02:22 - 02:24
bono, but we do want to reach as many people
02:25 - 02:28
as possible and with that comes the need of people
02:28 - 02:32
to get paid Multiple success stories to us.
02:33 - 02:36
And what we consider a success story is we make
02:37 - 02:40
sure the child has been properly re homed, whether it
02:40 - 02:44
is themselves, if they're 18 or if it's with a
02:44 - 02:47
proper guardian, and we also make sure that proper guardian
02:47 - 02:50
or that child has a proper income for their future.
02:51 - 02:53
We also make sure to take the time that all
02:53 - 02:57
affiliations with ice and other government organizations are handled.
02:58 - 03:01
So this person is continuing with the clean slaves.
03:02 - 03:05
We would rather help guide these kids than them try
03:05 - 03:07
to figure it out in a world that they don't
03:07 - 03:10
understand and for themselves and we are here to help
03:10 - 03:15
them. Next, I'm going to talk about some community awareness.
03:16 - 03:20
We recently had a tremendous donation from the rapper Jay
03:21 - 03:24
Z and he really wants to continue working with us
03:25 - 03:28
in the future and we loved that because he has
03:28 - 03:31
so many talented artist partnered at his brand and they
03:31 - 03:34
want to work to our festivals and all we can
03:34 - 03:36
think about is how our fans are going to love
03:36 - 03:39
that. And when you think about all the fans coming,
03:39 - 03:42
you think about the revenue, you're thinking about the Children
03:42 - 03:44
were going to be able to help and it's truly
03:44 - 03:50
incredible all in all, there are multiple communities in America
03:50 - 03:54
that lack access to resources that they could use to
03:54 - 03:55
be successful in our society.
03:56 - 04:00
And I think it's important to recognize that and that
04:00 - 04:03
target and help the ones that we can.
04:04 - 04:07
And on that note, America used to be known as
04:07 - 04:12
the melting pot and people immigrated here happily and people
04:12 - 04:13
enjoyed having that representation.
04:14 - 04:15
So where did that go?
04:16 - 04:19
And I don't think there's any better way to bring
04:20 - 04:23
people together than by with a cross cultural factor like
04:24 - 04:28
music and bring people together in a happy environment where
04:28 - 04:30
they can enjoy themselves and you're also doing a good
04:31 - 04:32
thing for someone else simultaneously.
04:35 - 04:36
I just want to thank everyone for taking the time
04:37 - 04:40
to watch this and to learn for learning about some
04:40 - 04:42
for souls and getting to know the organization.
04:43 - 04:46
I hope to talk to you soon and for more
04:46 - 04:51
