  1. My name is Jay Lee Kilpatrick.
  2. This is my ad analysis for Professor Rogers in English 1101 class.
  3. I started this on April 11, 2000 and 2022.
  4. Mhm
  5. This is the new skinny can for Diet Pepsi.
  6. Where did this ad come from?
  7. It was published in the modern magazine. The addition from February 2011.
  8. It was done in time for Fashion Week
  9. and it is a
  10. ad for the Diet Pepsi skinning camp.
  11. Why? And who was this ad created for?
  12. This was a promotional ad
  13. for the brand new skinny can of Diet Pepsi.
  14. This ad was intended to drum up business to buy this can.
  15. It was done with relations to Fashion Week and how
  16. in Fashion Week you have all these innovative designs.
  17. Well, here's Pepsi giving this new innovative can design
  18. and it was done for those readers of modern magazine.
  19. What kind of appeals were used specifically It was ethos and pathos.
  20. It's a famous drink,
  21. famous strength building the credibility
  22. of Pepsi just the name. Everybody knows the name
  23. whether you drink it or you don't.
  24. It also falls into the skinny is pretty stereotype,
  25. which is not intentional on Pepsi's behalf. But it does bring up that feeling
  26. of all the skinnier can is so beautiful.
  27. It also brings up a skinnier can, has less calories,
  28. so people would be more likely to buy it and more intrigued and
  29. I think it's special
  30. visual aspects and elements. So we have text, colors and imagery.
  31. The text is just a very simple font.
  32. There's some small text up in the right hand
  33. corner which is just copyright text giving credit to the
  34. originator of the ad.
  35. There's the big text where it says these new skinny camp.
  36. The white text
  37. is just very uniform and just there the dark blue text
  38. of just the word new is meant to put emphasis on the
  39. new
  40. hotness of the skinning can.
  41. It's placed out to the sides to make sure it's not
  42. drawing too much attention from the skinny can and the model
  43. Within the visual we have the color red as an accent slash pop color
  44. drawing your eye to the can and then to the models who want sunglasses,
  45. the blue, which is very well known. Pepsi color.
  46. This is the background is a very soothing, very calming
  47. and the way also is just a very good
  48. accent in the back
  49. color
  50. and then the brown
  51. as an accent to her hair just to break everything else up and not have it be so
  52. light in uniform.
  53. There is imagery in this with a skinny can and
  54. a skinny model leaning towards the idea that skinny is pretty
  55. and
  56. that it's all very uniform and within the visual
  57. the effectiveness of the artifact. It was actually a complete failure
  58. society found it totally unacceptable because it fell into the socio
  59. social stereotypes,
  60. skinny is pretty, being skinny. It does not matter
  61. the
  62. society and people who saw this ad had a
  63. very big problem and critiqued Pepsi heavily on this
  64. concluding thoughts.
  65. This ad failed miserably in what it was trying to do.
  66. They had a very poor choice in model or even using a model for
  67. a skinny can and a skinny model.
  68. It lacks body positivity with everything being uniform as skinny and pretty.
  69. It lacks creativity because it is just very bland with the color choice
  70. and in theory,
  71. the skinny can is
  72. intriguing, but put into practice. It is very
  73. unwanted in today's society
  74. for my work cited. I have the skinny can from the Modern magazine
  75. and then I have diet.
  76. Pepsi skinny cancer's a big controversy by Sarah Skidmore from NBC News.
