  1. Hello and welcome to our first teacher talk.
  2. I will be making one of these every Sunday going
  3. forward so we can all make sure we're prepared for
  4. the week.
  5. The first thing we're gonna talk about is our goals
  6. for the week.
  7. So I want by the end of the week for
  8. all of your students to be able to find their
  9. class work on their own, Um, they're going to create
  10. their own learning space where they can focus every day.
  11. Um, and they're also gonna work with you their families
  12. to create a schedule and practice using it.
  13. So those are the main things will be doing.
  14. There will be other things as well.
  15. Those are big goals for the week.
  16. I want to give you a sense of the schedule
  17. for those goals.
  18. So on Monday, they're going to be creating their own
  19. learning space.
  20. That's a place in their home or whatever home they're
  21. working in during the day where they always know they
  22. can go to focus and learn.
  23. On Tuesday, we're gonna be talking about how to organize
  24. our supplies so that you can find them right away,
  25. and you're not running around looking for a pencil or
  26. paper on Wednesday.
  27. We're gonna be making a schedule.
  28. Scheduling is gonna be really important for students going forward.
  29. Um, and since they're at home, they're gonna have to
  30. learn how to set their own because I won't be
  31. there to keep track of the schedule for them and
  32. tell them when it's time to move on to the
  33. next thing.
  34. On Thursday, they're going to try that schedule out and
  35. see how it works.
  36. Like what They remember what they forget, what worked for
  37. them, What did it on Friday.
  38. We're going to reflect on those schedules and think about
  39. what we need to change or do differently for the
  40. coming week and what we liked about.
  41. I wanted to share a video with some brief reminders.
  42. In this video, you're going to see three things that
  43. are very important.
  44. The first thing is that everything you need is on
  45. the classroom website, and this video is going to show
  46. you how to get there.
  47. The second thing is that if you get lost, you
  48. can always click on the red question marks that I'm
  49. pointing to right now in our virtual classroom.
  50. Eso help you understand what that pages for to help
  51. you understand new work that I've posted on.
  52. And I also want to make sure that everybody knows
  53. that starting on Monday, we will have a morning meeting
  54. every day at 8 30 That's very important, because that's
  55. where we're going to get to know each other and
  56. start building our classroom community.
  57. Um, and it's also where I'm gonna be.
  58. You just walking students through their work in the schedule
  59. for the day.
  60. So to use, make sure your student is logged in
  61. to zoom at 8:30 a.m. starting tomorrow on Monday.
  62. So now here's a brief video about the website and
  63. how to use it because we have some new folks
  64. joining us who might not know.
  65. Okay, well, that didn't work.
  66. So we're gonna have to get creative.
  67. So I have the video on my phone screen, and
  68. I'm gonna hold that up so that you can see
  69. the video I created because the link is not working.
  70. In my presentation over the weekend, I added a link
  71. to the class website Everybody's bookmarks bar.
  72. The bookmark bar is right under the Google search space
  73. at the top of the screen, it will appear as
  74. a purple or blue square, with East open pride written
  75. next to it on your screen in the same place
  76. you see mine here.
  77. If you click on that link, it will take you
  78. directly to our Web page.
  79. Please use the Web page for everything.
  80. Your student uses a needs and clothe first.
  81. Like you see, it is a class zoom link.
  82. If you click on that zoom link, it will take
  83. you to our zoo meeting.
  84. Another important thing on the class website is the virtual
  85. classroom. The most important thing to remember about the virtual
  86. classroom is that if you need help on any page,
  87. there is a red question mark that could explain to
  88. you how to use that pig.
  89. X work can be found by clicking on this chalkboard
  90. that says classwork and calendars again.
  91. There is a red question mark here that you can
  92. use if you're not for how to navigate this page.
  93. Click on it and it will take you to a
  94. video link.
  95. Additionally, every day's work has a red question mark next
  96. to anything we're doing that's new.
  97. If you or your student clicks on that red question
  98. mark, it will take you to a video that shows
  99. you how to get to that new work.
  100. On Friday, the third thing students were asked to do
  101. was go to Google classroom and complete any work they've
  102. missed throughout the week.
  103. This is something that we will do on Friday every
  104. week. If you're not sure how to get to Google
  105. Classroom. Since it's one of the first times were using
  106. it for this purpose, you should click on the as
  107. you concede it takes you to a video that I
  108. made that shows you how to get Teoh Google Classroom.
  109. Please make sure you use that red question mark tools.
  110. Whenever you want to get back to the main page
  111. of our virtual classroom, you can click on my motive.
  112. In addition to the virtual classroom, our website also has
  113. a student work tracker.
  114. H. One of your students has a number and Onley.
  115. Your family knows that number.
  116. During the week, I will post all of the assignments
  117. that they've been asked to do for class.
  118. If they have a green sea, that means they completed
  119. their work.
  120. If they have a red eye.
  121. That means the work is incomplete.
  122. It did not get turned into me.
  123. If they have a new orange F, that means they
  124. did their best to complete the work.
  125. But there's something that needs to be fixed.
  126. Um, so please make sure that you're checking the student
  127. work tracker every day.
  128. I updated at five o'clock.
  129. All right.
  130. Thank you so much for watching that with me.
  131. Now, I would like to talk to you about some
  132. different expectations that I have for how things will work
  133. in our class this year.
  134. The first thing I want to talk to you about
  135. is my expectations for communication.
  136. So for adults, my classroom is a judgment free zone.
  137. So the more information you can give me as a
  138. teacher about what's going on in your lives and with
  139. your family, whether use of the exciting, like a new
  140. pet or a new birth or something, you know, sad,
  141. like a loss in the family.
  142. The more I know, the better I can do my
  143. job if you're struggling with something or some part of
  144. online learning.
  145. Um and you do don't communicate that to me.
  146. so we can find a solution.
  147. Because I know all of our goal is to make
  148. sure that your student has the best learning experience possible
  149. on that same note, please make sure that you report
  150. all technology and Web issues immediately.
  151. So even just last week, we had a link that
  152. wasn't working on.
  153. And I didn't know about that till almost noon.
  154. Eso a lot of students were unable to get to
  155. the work.
  156. Sometimes there are things that work on my end but
  157. don't work for you as the user.
  158. So Well, I'm still figuring this out.
  159. I need to know about that right away so that
  160. we can make sure that we get everything working on.
  161. Students are able to complete their work independently without needing
  162. help. Um, for students, my expectations around communication line up
  163. with our values.
  164. So with the value of love, any time a student
  165. is, um, commenting online or posting online in our classroom,
  166. Um, I just want to make sure that those posts
  167. are positive and supportive.
  168. Um, inappropriate.
  169. And I know that won't be a problem, but I
  170. just like to say it up front so that we're
  171. all on the same page with our value of community.
  172. I want all of my students to participate.
  173. Their voice is essential to the work that we're doing
  174. on, and I want to hear from them.
  175. I want to hear what they're thinking with our value
  176. of curiosity.
  177. I want them to ask all the questions If we're
  178. learning about something they're really interested in, and they want
  179. to know more.
  180. I want them to ask me if there's something that's
  181. confusing, that doesn't make sense.
  182. I want them to ask me.
  183. It's going to be so important to be curious this
  184. year. Um, with that real in this piece is a
  185. lot like, um, with my parent communication.
  186. If there's something your student EADS, I want them to
  187. tell me that's also part of having hustle because they
  188. need to learn how to advocate for themselves as learners.
  189. I'm in order to bring, you know, that passion.
  190. So they're learning every day.
  191. Um, so those are kind of my expectations around communication.
  192. Next, we're gonna talk about attendance In order for your
  193. student to be counted present, they need to be on
  194. time to meetings.
  195. So, like for class meeting at 8 30 every morning.
  196. Your student needs to be logged in on time, and
  197. their work needs to be completed at the end of
  198. each day.
  199. Um, if either of those things doesn't happen, if they
  200. miss a meeting or if they have incomplete work, I
  201. have to count them.
  202. Is absent for the day.
  203. Um, an excused absence is again, like, let me know
  204. what's going on.
  205. Text or call me the same day.
  206. Preferably, you know, like right after during a meeting, if
  207. they miss it or during the day about, like, work
  208. completion of, like your Internets not working or something.
  209. Text or call me the same day to tell me,
  210. like what the issue is and why your student was
  211. able to attend.
  212. If you know, ahead of time that there's gonna be
  213. something coming up that makes it so your student can't
  214. be in class.
  215. I need to know that as soon as you do,
  216. so that I could be flexible, maybe move some things
  217. around so that they can still participate and get their
  218. present marking for the day.
  219. Yeah, and please reach out with me.
  220. Toe. Excuse me.
  221. Please reach out to me with other questions you have
  222. about that right student work.
  223. This one is very brief.
  224. I just want to make sure that we realize that,
  225. like in this class, we love mistakes, and I want
  226. students to make mistakes.
  227. I'm glad that a lot of you are available.
  228. You know, like parents, older siblings, grandparent's other people in
  229. the home.
  230. So help students with work.
  231. But I really do want to make sure I'm seeing
  232. their work.
  233. The reason why this is so important is because the
  234. only way I know what they're learning is by seeing
  235. what they can do on.
  236. So once you get them set up on the site,
  237. once they start to understand some of the different tools
  238. we use a little bit better.
  239. I just really want to encourage you, like when you
  240. see them making a mistake, let it stand.
  241. You know, I don't feel like you need to step
  242. in and fix it for them because that's a big
  243. part of our learning and third grade we're going to
  244. make mistakes, and that's part of the process and part
  245. of that love and community that I tried to build
  246. with my students.
  247. is around accepting and normalizing those mistakes.
  248. I'm not feeling bad about them.
  249. Not making other people feel bad about, um so yeah,
  250. don't be afraid to let your student make mistakes.
  251. I encourage it.
  252. Here are the best ways to contact me.
  253. Um, that's my school email at the top there.
  254. So feel free to send me a message of email
  255. Is something you prefer.
  256. This is my phone number.
  257. And I've also been using the talking points after to
  258. send out group notifications.
  259. Eso Those were the things you're gonna wanna have saved
  260. and ready to go so that we can be in
  261. clear communication about your students learning.
  262. I am so excited for this year to get off
  263. the ground and get started.
  264. I really appreciate all of your hard work and your
  265. patients So far, this is new for all of us
  266. are all going to make mistakes.
  267. And we're all going to be learning and growing together.
  268. Feel free to reach out to me in any of
  269. these places.
  270. If you have questions between now and tomorrow at 8
  271. 30 and I will see all of your students Beautiful
  272. shining faces for morning meeting at 8 30 Okay, Have
  273. a good rest of your Sunday
