00:01 - 00:04
Hey, welcome, My name is Esther Myers and this Prezi
00:05 - 00:08
it's just a quick little introduction into my life, what
00:08 - 00:10
I want to take this class, my educational background.
00:11 - 00:14
So here we go to begin, this is a picture
00:14 - 00:14
of my family.
00:15 - 00:19
I've been married to my husband deter for um 17
00:20 - 00:22
years. We have four kids, three boys.
00:22 - 00:25
One girl, my oldest Judah is an eighth grader.
00:25 - 00:29
He's 13, jake is in sixth grade, he's 11 luke
00:29 - 00:30
is in second grade, he's eight.
00:31 - 00:34
And adding my baby girl is in kindergarten this year,
00:34 - 00:37
she's five, she's very excited to be at school with
00:37 - 00:39
her brother, so that's a lot of fun.
00:40 - 00:41
Uh My kids are really active in a lot of
00:41 - 00:45
sports, so I feel like I spend a good portion
00:45 - 00:48
of my day driving them around to places, just like
00:48 - 00:51
their own little personal chauffeur, but that's okay, it's a
00:51 - 00:51
lot of fun.
00:51 - 00:53
I love watching them get to do what they love
00:53 - 00:53
to do.
00:54 - 00:56
My family also loves to travel.
00:56 - 00:58
This is a picture of us in Oregon list last
00:58 - 01:01
summer. Our goal is to hit all 50 states with
01:01 - 01:04
all four kids before my oldest graduates from high school.
01:05 - 01:07
Um We still have a few states to go, but
01:08 - 01:08
we're making good progress.
01:09 - 01:10
I think we'll make it by the time he graduates
01:11 - 01:12
in every state.
01:12 - 01:15
We'd love to take these kind of silly crazy pictures.
01:15 - 01:18
Um My kids are just really funny with their different
01:18 - 01:20
poses and it's a lot of fun to look back
01:20 - 01:24
through them, to see what they've come up with in
01:24 - 01:24
terms of my education.
01:25 - 01:27
I'm a K State, er I got my undergrad and
01:27 - 01:32
secondary education through K State Go Cats, and then after
01:32 - 01:36
I graduated, I worked for three years at Gardner Edgerton
01:36 - 01:36
High School.
01:37 - 01:39
I was a language arts teacher, I had mostly sophomores
01:40 - 01:43
and juniors and then one speech class, which was a
01:43 - 01:43
lot of fun.
01:43 - 01:46
I loved being there, but when my oldest son was
01:46 - 01:50
born, I made the decision to stay at home with
01:50 - 01:53
him. So I've been home with my kids since he
01:53 - 01:55
was born and like I said, he's 13, so it's
01:55 - 01:57
been a long time since I've worked in the classroom
01:58 - 02:01
and that's one of the reasons why I want and
02:01 - 02:02
need to take this class.
02:03 - 02:05
I would like to get my teaching license renewed so
02:05 - 02:08
that I can maybe go back in the next year
02:08 - 02:11
too to be in the classroom again.
02:11 - 02:15
So I'm a little nervous about that going back, but
02:15 - 02:18
also excited to, I'm ready for this next season of
02:18 - 02:19
my life.
02:19 - 02:20
So I think it'll be good.
02:21 - 02:23
I have my Masters through Pit State University.
02:24 - 02:28
Um it's, my degree is in educational technology, which basically
02:28 - 02:30
means I can be a library media specialist.
02:31 - 02:33
So I'm thinking about pursuing that route when I go
02:34 - 02:36
back and I'm kind of excited about it.
02:36 - 02:38
I feel like that would really be a good fit
02:39 - 02:40
for me, something that I would enjoy.
02:41 - 02:43
One of the reasons why I went through Pit State
02:43 - 02:47
was because when I was getting my masters we lived
02:47 - 02:50
in the Middle East for 2.5 years in Doha Qatar
02:50 - 02:50
or Qatar.
02:51 - 02:53
Uh this is a picture of my family, we just
02:53 - 02:56
had two kids at the time so it works really
02:56 - 02:58
well for me to go through Pit States so that
02:58 - 03:00
I could get it all completed online.
03:02 - 03:05
Yeah part of the curriculum that I needed to complete,
03:05 - 03:08
I had to do um some practicum hours in a
03:08 - 03:11
school library and so the american school of johanna that
03:11 - 03:15
you see pictured here was so gracious to work with
03:15 - 03:17
me. I was able to work with three different library
03:18 - 03:22
media specialist and they were all wonderful, I was able
03:22 - 03:25
to work in the high school middle school and elementary,
03:25 - 03:28
so it was so perfect and I love getting to
03:28 - 03:31
see how they did things there as opposed to how
03:31 - 03:34
things are done here, such a great experience And then
03:34 - 03:38
2020 came and everything was all crazy, I was able
03:38 - 03:41
to dust off my teaching license of it and um
03:42 - 03:45
come up with lesson plans for all well really just
03:46 - 03:48
three of my kids, my little girl, I did some
03:48 - 03:51
stuff with but mainly the older ones thankfully there are
03:51 - 03:54
some fantastic resources out there that teachers have already put
03:54 - 03:59
together different um different uses of technology and so we
03:59 - 04:01
were able to come up with some pretty good stuff
04:01 - 04:03
but this is one of again one of the reasons
04:03 - 04:04
why I want to take this class.
04:04 - 04:07
I want to see what else is out there in
04:07 - 04:08
terms of technology use in the classroom.
04:09 - 04:13
I feel like technology is vital for students.
04:13 - 04:14
They love it.
04:14 - 04:14
It keeps them engaged.
04:15 - 04:18
And when you can incorporate that technology into the classroom,
04:19 - 04:22
I feel like it's a really, really powerful tool outside
04:22 - 04:24
of my family and my education.
04:25 - 04:28
What I love to do, What I'm passionate about is
04:28 - 04:29
singing and playing the guitar.
04:30 - 04:33
I lead worship at my church on a monthly basis.
04:33 - 04:35
Sometimes it's a little bit more than that.
04:35 - 04:38
So this is a picture of me here playing and
04:38 - 04:40
singing. I sing all the time.
04:40 - 04:41
I drive my kids crazy.
04:42 - 04:44
They're always telling me to stop, but okay, it is
04:44 - 04:46
what it is, that's just part of life.
04:47 - 04:50
So that's a brief look into my life and education.
04:51 - 04:51
So thank you so much.
04:52 - 04:52
Bye.
