  1. Hi. Good afternoon.
  2. Um, Isabella Gallardo.
  3. And today I'll be talking about immigration detention centers and
  4. how, in fact, society eso the long lasting mental and
  5. physical effects that detention turners have on individuals being held
  6. there. So with an increasing number of Children and adults
  7. spending a long period of time in these facilities, it
  8. plays a major role in their mental well being, especially
  9. with the young Children that are still growing as individuals
  10. and being away from their families.
  11. Not knowing when they'll see them plays a big part
  12. in their in their development stage as Children.
  13. And they won't really understand what's happening to them.
  14. The current situation on.
  15. As for living conditions, it plays a big factor in
  16. this situation because, um, people being held there aren't receiving
  17. the the natural care and the proper care and aren't
  18. receiving the necessities that are needed.
  19. Like, for example, toothbrushes.
  20. They aren't receiving that they're not even receiving blankets like
  21. they don't even receive a new change of clothes.
  22. And like a shower, they don't They can't even get
  23. that. It's very frustrating.
  24. So for the next one, detention centers impact on families
  25. and society, so this current event has impacted people from
  26. within society on family.
  27. I'm sorry, and it has impacted families that are families
  28. that have loved ones inside these immigration centers, you know,
  29. not being able to see them and not being able
  30. to help them with their current situation and society perceiving
  31. immigrants as criminals.
  32. So, like Trump said on live television, all immigrants are
  33. thieves and criminals and rapists, and I don't even know
  34. what else he said.
  35. But he claimed those words in front of live television
  36. and that can impact and persuade a lot of people,
  37. you know, changing the perspective on how they view immigrants
  38. are, you know, Mexican immigrant.
  39. But that's not even, yeah.
  40. People tend to perceive what they want.
  41. So for the next three sociological pentagrams paradigms eso for
  42. the first one, it's structural functional ism.
  43. Customs and border protection is one of them, um, the
  44. Department of Homeland Security, which is actually the largest immigration
  45. detention center system in the world.
  46. The last one is Immigration and Customs Enforcement ice, and
  47. they have the cooperation of state and local enforcement agencies,
  48. and the in our next one is conflict theory.
  49. Inequality between immigrants and U.
  50. S. Citizen.
  51. So both both immigrants and your citizens are competing for
  52. jobs and resources, you know.
  53. But in this situation, the the U.
  54. S. Citizens do have the upper hand, and that's where
  55. we need to help these immigrants.
  56. And for symbolic interaction.
  57. Traction is, um um you know this.
  58. In this process, immigrants are seen as inferior, and the
  59. way they are treated in the detention centers, it's not
  60. even acceptable for any type of human being.
  61. You know, they're seen as less in thes jails or
  62. 10 centers or whatever you wanna call it, and they're
  63. treated as less as well.
  64. And for the fourth, um, my girls sociology, the study
  65. of the study of society as a whole society as
  66. a whole has excluded immigrants.
  67. You know, America and the government have oppressed immigrants, you
  68. know. They have judged them based on their appearance, and
  69. they, even though a border and a wall to restrict
  70. them from getting over here and in the eyes of
  71. society, immigrants have taken a lot away from them.
  72. In reality, they come here for a better job and
  73. a better life, just like everyone else.
  74. And that concludes my presentation
