00:02 - 00:05
So one of those solutions to any human trafficking is
00:05 - 00:05
to make it known.
00:06 - 00:08
Um this is a task that is only possible by
00:08 - 00:12
decreasing the demand, raising awareness and education and so how
00:12 - 00:12
can we do that?
00:13 - 00:15
Um or how is that being done?
00:15 - 00:16
So here are some current relief efforts.
00:17 - 00:22
There are safe houses like those Um similar to Rafa
00:22 - 00:26
House, there are victim advocacy centers and there's actually a
00:26 - 00:28
center here in Greeley called the Avery Center, which is
00:29 - 00:33
just that um legislation I say kind of here because
00:33 - 00:36
though there have been governmental efforts made to remedy the
00:36 - 00:40
issue, such as the trafficking victims protection act released in
00:40 - 00:44
2000. Um it has since then been reauthorized in 2010
00:45 - 00:45
as the US.
00:46 - 00:48
had not recognized this as a domestic issue until then.
00:49 - 00:52
Um so 10 years of ignorance and our government is
00:52 - 00:54
something that is inexcusable and yet still the issue is
00:54 - 00:57
frequently placed on the back burner for local and national
00:58 - 01:02
municipalities further proving the importance of awareness and public knowledge
01:02 - 01:02
of the issue.
01:04 - 01:06
Um, and then finally education efforts.
01:10 - 01:12
So here is our call to action.
01:12 - 01:16
Um, it starts with us culture, media, consumerism and capitalism
01:16 - 01:19
are all contributing factors to the viability of human trafficking.
01:20 - 01:23
So how can we help as everyday people, we can
01:23 - 01:29
learn, teach and support in supporting, we believe survivors donate
01:29 - 01:33
to organizations that help survivors and victims be involved in
01:33 - 01:37
politics, that we were aware of those laws that are
01:37 - 01:40
being passed and we can vote on them and be
01:40 - 01:42
active in it and then supporting change.
01:44 - 01:47
Okay. Um, in learning, we need to educate ourselves and
01:47 - 01:49
know what's going around going on around us every day
01:49 - 01:51
and how we can be a part of change.
01:52 - 01:55
And finally, in teaching, we can educate our peers, friends
01:55 - 01:55
and family.
01:56 - 01:59
Um, we need to be calling out negative behavior that
01:59 - 02:01
perpetuates inequality, speaking out about human trafficking.
02:02 - 02:04
Um, the more people hear about that, the more people
02:05 - 02:07
are likely to care about the issue.
02:10 - 02:12
So again, this is my presentation on human trafficking.
02:12 - 02:13
I appreciate you are listening in.
02:14 - 02:15
Um, yeah, thanks.
