  1. okay. When the everybody just wanted to um discuss my
  2. reflections about this program, which has truly been a learning
  3. experience life changing.
  4. Uh without a doubt, this has been the best learning
  5. experience that I have had as an educator.
  6. Uh no PDO class is no trainings for the past
  7. 20 years that I've been in M.
  8. CPS educator teaching spanish and different high schools, no professional
  9. development, no graduate courses can compare to the impact this
  10. program has had on me first.
  11. And most most importantly, it has renewed my love for
  12. teaching and learning has compelled me to rethink everything I
  13. thought I knew about teaching for equity, which was pretty
  14. much nothing.
  15. And it has led me to want to seek leadership
  16. positions, which is something I always said.
  17. I would never and E.
  18. V. E.
  19. R. Capital Letters wanted to do the most important learnings
  20. of this program for me or take aways have been
  21. that equality and Equity is not the same thing that
  22. not being a racist teacher is not quite enough that
  23. I must do more.
  24. That being an anti racist is so so different from
  25. just not being racist.
  26. Yeah. Yeah.
  27. That being an ally for social justice implies examining my
  28. own biases and working with my black students, students of
  29. color, um disabled students, LGBTQ students working with them and
  30. not for them is a big difference.
  31. And most importantly that engaging in self reflection is important,
  32. but eating but leading others two in self reflection is
  33. something that I'm also able to do.
  34. It's not the job of admin, it's not the job
  35. of the leaders, There are other people, but I also
  36. too, I also can be a leader.
  37. I also can be a coach.
  38. Um I also could do this.
  39. I can also lead others in self reflection.
  40. That has been really life changing for me because as
  41. an international student, I never ever thought that I could
  42. do this work of leading others.
  43. And the last thing is that as a person of
  44. color, rethinking the role of culture and educational equity has
  45. also truly been life changing from revamping oh my lessons
  46. and this is a quote that I love from Chorske.
  47. Um if we are teaching cultural proficiency, are we also
  48. teaching equity proficiency?
  49. The knowledge and skills required to create and sustain actively
  50. anti racist, anti sexist, anti other oppressions, classroom school and
  51. society. If we embrace culturally relevant or culturally responsive pedagogy,
  52. do we practice it in its intended form?
  53. So we are responsive to both to students, unique individual
  54. cultures and two students rights to equitable and just educational
  55. opportunity. Do we have the equity literacy to know the
  56. difference, the implication of making culture the center of the
  57. conversation comforting privilege rather than discomforting inequity though, is that
  58. by doing so we mask racism, xenophobia and other oppressions,
  59. undermining the goal of equity.
  60. I have been transformed by this quote about rethinking culture
  61. and putting equity at the center of the conversation and
  62. not just diversity.
  63. And this has really, really, truly been like, really made
  64. the difference for me.
  65. So overall, I would say this program has made me
  66. a better human being overall, it has made me rethink
  67. everything I knew about teaching and learning has made me
  68. revise every single lesson that I teach with an equity
  69. lens and made me want to keep on learning.
  70. Thank you and congrats to all the grass.
