00:02 - 00:04
thanks so much for joining me again on now.
00:04 - 00:06
This is going to be day the third module of
00:07 - 00:08
my creativity course.
00:09 - 00:11
The first session we talked about how to just embrace
00:12 - 00:13
the creative process.
00:14 - 00:17
Then we talked about how to create beautiful things on
00:17 - 00:17
a budget.
00:18 - 00:20
And today we're just going to talk about finding that
00:20 - 00:20
inner artist.
00:21 - 00:26
Now, there are many different ways to be creative and
00:26 - 00:26
have fun.
00:27 - 00:29
And a lot of those are just, you can find
00:29 - 00:30
in your day to day life.
00:31 - 00:34
Um, you can, we one of the things is you
00:34 - 00:36
just want to find the medium or one of the
00:36 - 00:38
mediums that you enjoy working with the most.
00:39 - 00:42
There's really, there's a lot of inexpensive ones that you
00:42 - 00:46
can find to experiment with and if you can find
00:46 - 00:48
it in an expensive way than if you try it
00:48 - 00:50
and you don't love it, then just don't be discouraged.
00:51 - 00:52
Try another medium.
00:52 - 00:55
And there's some different ways that you can play around
00:55 - 00:57
with creativity every day.
00:57 - 01:02
And so there are an endless list.
01:03 - 01:05
These there's different ideas, like I know lots of people
01:06 - 01:08
really like to be creative with makeup, that definitely is
01:08 - 01:09
an art form.
01:09 - 01:11
People like to be creative with cooking or even just
01:12 - 01:14
the display of how to cook things.
01:14 - 01:17
Some people like to, So, and that can be a
01:17 - 01:19
creative art form home decor and just decorating.
01:20 - 01:22
One of my personal favorites is resin.
01:22 - 01:26
It's super fun paint pouring can be done just with
01:26 - 01:29
leftover paint from when you painted your house inside outside
01:29 - 01:32
whatever or leftover paint that other people have, you can
01:32 - 01:33
do that really inexpensively.
01:34 - 01:37
Um would signs and you can always up cycle to
01:37 - 01:40
make some different kinds of wood signs and um cricket
01:40 - 01:43
is one of another one of my favorites and if
01:43 - 01:44
you don't know what a cricket is, make sure that
01:45 - 01:46
you go online and check it out.
01:47 - 01:51
Um and you can find those um much less expensive
01:52 - 01:53
if you buy them from like a facebook, buy and
01:53 - 01:55
sell group and buy a used one to play around
01:56 - 01:57
with. That's how I got into it.
01:58 - 02:01
Um away for is just a different type of paint
02:01 - 02:02
poor, You can research that.
02:02 - 02:06
It's really inexpensive to do alcohol, ink is a really
02:06 - 02:10
fun creative uh thing to try as well as the
02:10 - 02:14
sake, it's actually their Ukrainian easter eggs and there's a,
02:14 - 02:16
there's a bit of a trick to them, so you
02:16 - 02:18
might have to have somebody show you or just make
02:18 - 02:20
sure that you research that really well before you try
02:21 - 02:23
it. Uh one of the ways that I was creative
02:24 - 02:27
before I got into doing it is like my side
02:27 - 02:31
gig was Jack lanterns is every Halloween.
02:32 - 02:36
Halloween was kind of like uh my holiday, which seems
02:36 - 02:40
weird, but it was kind of an excuse just to
02:40 - 02:42
put creativity into my everyday life.
02:42 - 02:45
So doing elaborate, Jack lanterns was always really fun for
02:46 - 02:48
me. You can take your existing furniture and re finish
02:49 - 02:52
it. Uh some people use gardening as uh for sure.
02:52 - 02:57
That can be a creative outlet or um decorating course,
02:58 - 02:59
painting, photography.
03:00 - 03:03
Um Ivan would take the creative stuff that I do
03:03 - 03:06
at work, like presentations and stuff and even just you
03:06 - 03:08
can see by my uh Prezi stuff.
03:08 - 03:11
That's another way that I like to um use as
03:12 - 03:12
a creative outlet.
03:13 - 03:16
Another one that I try to actually recently, which was
03:16 - 03:19
super fun was wire trees or just wire art and
03:19 - 03:22
some people can find, you can find just left over
03:22 - 03:24
where that people don't want anymore and people will strip
03:24 - 03:27
them and actually use that as raw materials instead of
03:27 - 03:29
having to quote and purchase wire.
03:29 - 03:32
But you can also get an expensive wire on amazon.
03:33 - 03:38
Uh some people use landscaping or bird houses, you can
03:38 - 03:42
find really inexpensively or some, there's that you can build
03:42 - 03:47
yourself. Um I've actually used concrete for some different cool
03:47 - 03:49
projects. It's pretty inexpensive to buy.
03:49 - 03:52
We made some concrete leaves, that was pretty fun and
03:53 - 03:55
I'm not sure what my next one that came up
03:55 - 03:56
here was.
03:56 - 03:59
Oh and oil paintings or water colors, lots of different
03:59 - 04:05
types. So definitely there's no shortage and that's like only
04:06 - 04:08
I tip of the iceberg of different ways that you
04:09 - 04:09
can be creative.
04:11 - 04:13
So I'm going to tell you here just a little
04:14 - 04:19
bit about my journey in creativity and definitely that there
04:19 - 04:23
were some major failures as I went through the process
04:23 - 04:26
in order to figure out you know who I was
04:26 - 04:27
as an artist.
04:27 - 04:31
So before I actually started teaching art, I would take
04:32 - 04:35
opportunities to be creative just throughout my everyday life, I'll
04:35 - 04:36
just show you some pictures.
04:37 - 04:41
I would just do face painting for my kid's birthday
04:41 - 04:44
parties and some of them would turn out really good
04:44 - 04:46
and it was cute and fun or like, you know,
04:46 - 04:48
fancy birthday cakes when they had a partier.
04:49 - 04:52
This was invitation that I designed for a birthday party.
04:53 - 04:56
This was some Ukrainian easter eggs that Kawasaki I was
04:56 - 04:58
talking about and that was a way to just get
04:59 - 05:00
together with friends as well.
05:00 - 05:05
Um, here's one of our Jack O Lantern parties and
05:05 - 05:07
then this is some of the Halloween costumes that I
05:07 - 05:09
would make up for the kids and I would even,
05:10 - 05:13
you know, decorate the house really elaborately for Halloween.
05:13 - 05:15
I don't do that anymore as much.
05:15 - 05:17
But yeah, we had some pretty awesome results.
05:18 - 05:24
However, we also had some uh, major failures throughout the
05:24 - 05:25
years as well.
05:26 - 05:27
This is some of the parties in one of the
05:28 - 05:30
photography. I did photography for a little while.
05:30 - 05:33
So, um, yeah, little tip for you if you're doing
05:34 - 05:36
face paint, don't do it on a tired, really young
05:36 - 05:38
child with a lot of face paint on their face,
05:39 - 05:41
maybe just do like a little thing on their arm
05:42 - 05:43
or on their hands somewhere.
05:43 - 05:47
Yeah, so that was a learning experience for me.
05:49 - 05:51
Uh, so, one thing that I have learned is that
05:51 - 05:54
definitely you have to have patience.
05:54 - 05:57
It's a virtue that I am constantly working on.
05:58 - 05:59
But I definitely have learned through the years.
06:00 - 06:02
And I've mentioned research a few times throughout my course.
06:03 - 06:06
But it is really important to learn from other people's
06:06 - 06:09
mistakes and follow the instructions that people give.
06:09 - 06:10
Who have more experience.
06:11 - 06:12
I'll just give you one example.
06:13 - 06:15
Like there was uh one year, I wanted to make
06:15 - 06:17
a nice birthday cake for one of my kids and
06:17 - 06:20
the instructions said to wait until the cake was cool
06:20 - 06:21
before decorating it.
06:22 - 06:25
However, um, I for whatever reason didn't think that was
06:25 - 06:26
a necessary step.
06:27 - 06:31
So for those of you who don't know, spoiler alert
06:31 - 06:34
that is an important step and I iced and decorated
06:35 - 06:36
the cake and it was still warm and the icing
06:37 - 06:39
was melting and the final result did not end up
06:40 - 06:41
anything close to what I envisioned.
06:42 - 06:43
This isn't the actual picture of the cake that I
06:43 - 06:47
made, but I don't actually for some reason didn't take
06:47 - 06:48
a picture of that cake.
06:48 - 06:50
But the next time that I had to decorate a
06:51 - 06:54
cake, I definitely made sure to follow the directions as
06:54 - 06:56
they were outlined and it turned out much nicer.
06:57 - 07:00
This is actually one that I found some cake decorating
07:01 - 07:02
parts like the little towers.
07:02 - 07:04
There are plastic and I was able to borrow those
07:05 - 07:07
from a friend and they turned out really good.
07:07 - 07:09
And then there was another one that I tried for
07:09 - 07:10
my son's birthday.
07:11 - 07:14
So uh definitely lessons that I learned through that was
07:15 - 07:19
do your research and listen to the lessons that other
07:19 - 07:23
people have um to teach you from their mistakes.
07:24 - 07:26
So yeah I've tried many many things and I've made
07:26 - 07:30
many many mistakes but I've yeah I've just learned from
07:30 - 07:33
them and found the passion that I have for art
07:33 - 07:36
within. And I think I've made some pretty cool stuff
07:36 - 07:37
through the years.
07:37 - 07:40
So this is just to explain to you that you
07:41 - 07:45
don't especially need to label yourself as creative or artistic
07:45 - 07:47
in order to try something new.
07:48 - 07:51
Just try it and make sure that you're in the
07:51 - 07:51
right mindset.
07:52 - 07:54
Like we talked about in the first module there and
07:54 - 07:58
just to relax and enjoy that process without worrying about
07:59 - 07:59
the outcome.
07:59 - 08:03
And whether or not you make whatever you make turns
08:04 - 08:06
out the way that you intended or imagine as long
08:07 - 08:10
as you can enjoy and relax that process then you've
08:10 - 08:10
already won.
08:10 - 08:13
And that being said if you want things to turn
08:14 - 08:16
out closer to how you intend them to be then
08:16 - 08:19
just yeah do that research and listen to what they
08:19 - 08:20
say. Two.
08:21 - 08:25
So as you go through the year just uh look
08:25 - 08:29
for opportunities in your everyday life to find excuses to
08:29 - 08:30
explore creativity.
08:31 - 08:33
Maybe you see a sign that you like at a
08:33 - 08:34
store but you can't afford it.
08:35 - 08:37
Just take a picture of it and then research how
08:37 - 08:39
to make one like it more often than not.
08:40 - 08:43
You can make something similar or sometimes even better for
08:44 - 08:47
much less money and you can enjoy the process of
08:47 - 08:51
researching and finding the supplies and making it and then
08:51 - 08:52
what do you really have to lose?
08:52 - 08:57
So I am gonna challenge you again to try this.
08:57 - 09:00
Make a list of this time, make a list of
09:00 - 09:03
three creative projects that you want to try and then
09:03 - 09:05
after you've kind of got your top three, just narrow
09:05 - 09:07
it down to one and then once you've got that
09:08 - 09:10
one thing that you want to try again and hopefully
09:10 - 09:12
that you've tried a couple of different things throughout this
09:12 - 09:15
course and this can maybe you already have some ideas.
09:16 - 09:20
And then again, I do encourage you to enlist your
09:20 - 09:20
friends again.
09:21 - 09:24
Uh huh create with you.
09:25 - 09:28
And same as last time I want you to set
09:28 - 09:31
a budget and really make sure that you do your
09:31 - 09:35
research again, Youtube, Pinterest websites, google and then make your
09:35 - 09:40
list of supplies and creatively collect those.
09:40 - 09:43
And then before you start make sure that you check
09:43 - 09:46
your mindset, go back to that mantra that you created
09:46 - 09:49
in the first module or try another one, Say it
09:49 - 09:52
to yourself and actually believe it.
09:52 - 09:56
And then try your project and after you're done, just
09:56 - 10:00
assess what you've made, learn from what you've done and
10:00 - 10:04
try it again and before you know, your inner artist
10:04 - 10:06
is going to come out.
10:07 - 10:09
Trust me, just try it.
10:10 - 10:13
Uh So this was a bit of a shorter session,
10:13 - 10:16
Thanks so much for watching and I really would be
10:16 - 10:19
interested in seeing what you've made and the different kind
10:19 - 10:23
of deals that you've found and as well, just like
10:23 - 10:25
how it feels as you're going through this process.
10:26 - 10:29
So please share, you can find me again on instagram
10:30 - 10:33
or Pinterest or um on facebook.
10:33 - 10:36
So thanks again for taking this course with me.
10:37 - 10:39
I hope you enjoyed it and any feedback that you
10:39 - 10:40
have, I'd love to hear it.
10:41 - 10:42
This is my first time making this kind of thing.
10:42 - 10:46
So it was putting myself out there a little bit.
10:47 - 10:48
So yeah, I hope you enjoyed it.
10:49 - 10:49
Bye now.
