  1. Okay. Okay.
  2. So
  3. So for my project, I did
  4. Red Hot Chili Peppers,
  5. our HCP.
  6. And there's some Californication.
  7. Um,
  8. And they released it in 99, but so I would say it
  9. Probably influenced the 2000's a lot.
  10. Mm.
  11. And definitely influenced me a lot.
  12. Go here. The Red Hot Chili Peppers
  13. were one of the most
  14. influential bands of the 90s and will go down as
  15. one of the most influential bands of all time.
  16. As you can see here.
  17. Mhm,
  18. mhm.
  19. Go here.
  20. This is just a little bit about them.
  21. Yeah.
  22. Although the Red Hot Chili Peppers began
  23. their life of grunge in California
  24. did not take long
  25. for this group to influence mainstream media
  26. Group began developing its sound in 1983,
  27. but continues to influence popular music.
  28. Even today,
  29. I have listened to them my entire life. I have
  30. before I could even remember anything when I was
  31. one years old.
  32. You know, my mom has a video of me humming
  33. porcelain, which is on this album. Actually,
  34. um,
  35. they've been
  36. as a band,
  37. one of the most influential bands ever. And my life revolves around music. And
  38. I wouldn't even say They're one of my favorite bands.
  39. They just
  40. have affected my taste so much.
  41. And, uh,
  42. okay.
  43. Specifically California Californication.
  44. It's the biggest song by them
  45. that has affected me the most. And we'll get into that here.
  46. Yeah,
  47. still a little bit more about the band.
  48. It's actually
  49. terribly sad.
  50. Um,
  51. the founder of the band.
  52. He overdosed,
  53. and
  54. it's kind of a running thing in the band for them to be,
  55. um,
  56. sorry my screen got messed up. It's a running thing in the band
  57. that a lot of the members struggle with addiction,
  58. specifically
  59. opioids.
  60. Um,
  61. Flea wasn't an accident and he was taking painkillers. And then luckily, he got out.
  62. But I remember it had drug problems,
  63. and you can definitely see it
  64. on this song. Specifically,
  65. um,
  66. they're not
  67. talking much about drug use, but the album Californication, they really are
  68. okay now. I think we'll get married to the song now.
  69. Okay.
  70. Um you know what she said?
  71. The Sun Californication was released on an album called Californication.
  72. It came out and
  73. June eight,
  74. Mhm.
  75. The song is 5:30, and it's the first song on, and it's the title track.
  76. Remember
  77. vividly the first time
  78. because I must have listened to this song before I could, like, remember.
  79. But I remember the first time I ever really paid attention to listen to this song.
  80. My family had just come home from
  81. Arizona
  82. because I lived in Colorado.
  83. We're visiting here
  84. and
  85. just left the airport, and it was It came on the radio
  86. and
  87. it was captivating. I could still remember it vividly to this day.
  88. I couldn't hear any of the words he was saying, but just the
  89. the rhythm of everything. I loved this song, and I still do to this day.
  90. Yeah,
  91. um,
  92. one of the main reasons I love this song are because of the lyrics and because of the
  93. meaning to the song. A lot of people don't actually,
  94. you know, it kind of goes over the head.
  95. Some people just kind of think it's about California.
  96. Some people think they're satirically harping
  97. on like conspiracies about government,
  98. and
  99. that you hear most of these conspiracies
  100. from like wack jobs in Southern California.
  101. And the band actually recently
  102. stated it's mainly about the dark side of
  103. Hollywood that lies underneath the glossy surface.
  104. This is a quote, and
  105. it's
  106. quite interesting listening to the song thinking
  107. In that way I have a lyric here, the very first lyric of the song Psychic spies,
  108. from trying to trying to steal your mind's elation and so
  109. And current events. It's interesting when you think that this song came out in 99.
  110. Yeah,
  111. current events. I don't want to talk about that stuff, but,
  112. um,
  113. the first words of the song Psychic Spies From China try to steal your mind's elation
  114. and Little Girls from Sweden dream of silver screen quotation.
  115. If you want these kind of dreams,
  116. it's Californication just saying like you find these things in California.
  117. Um,
  118. another layer that always stuck out to me was
  119. pay your surgeon very well
  120. to break the spell of aging
  121. celebrity skin. Is this your chin
  122. or is that warrior waging? Uh,
  123. just
  124. harping on
  125. money buying
  126. cosmetics and
  127. plastic
  128. surgery and whatnot, And,
  129. uh,
  130. I think we'll go next on the
  131. word Californication.
  132. Mhm.
  133. What that
  134. came from.
  135. That's next. Okay,
  136. The structure of the song and sounds
  137. have been inspiring my own song, writing for years,
  138. just a
  139. guitar tone
  140. and specifically the biggest thing, the metaphorical satire and the lyrics.
  141. Everything in here
  142. is
  143. satirical, too
  144. California, essentially. And there
  145. they were.
  146. They started in California, in Southern California, and they
  147. have so much negative things and positive things to say about it. It's interesting,
  148. I think, um,
  149. metaphorical satire. Another example of the Lyrica
  150. space. Maybe the frantic sorry
  151. space may be the final frontier, but it's made in a Hollywood basement.
  152. And Cobain, Can you hear the spheres singing songs off station to station
  153. as harping on
  154. Cobain? Kurt Cobain, who
  155. killed himself
  156. with a shotgun?
  157. Um,
  158. they're jumping. They're jumping to
  159. of the biggest current
  160. conspiracy theories I have heard recently
  161. that Oh, Cobain
  162. wasn't it wasn't suicide. I've heard that conspiracy lately.
  163. Um,
  164. The moon landing was made in Hollywood that they were in water.
  165. I've heard that conspiracy recently, and this was all in California.
  166. Cations lyrics like 99
  167. Space may be the final frontier, but it's made in a Hollywood basement.
  168. And Cobain, can you hear the spheres singing songs off station to station?
  169. And although Iran's not far away,
  170. although Iran,
  171. it's, uh,
  172. you know them actually confirming that this is about
  173. you know
  174. I said,
  175. Here was it
  176. here. It's about the dark side of Hollywood that lies in any of
  177. them, confirming that that's what the song was about, saying all these things.
  178. That's why I love this song so much and why it's so influential to me. Because
  179. they,
  180. you know, you're taking a
  181. leap of courage essentially to do something like that
  182. and a song when you when you
  183. have that big of a platform and that many fans
  184. and um
  185. saying all these things, it gets fans
  186. riled up. It's genius. It's like
  187. mhm,
  188. they're
  189. adopting.
  190. Here's the lyrics
  191. video. It's like they're adopting this sort of anti
  192. culture.
  193. And I think even if none of these conspiracy things are true,
  194. you get them.
  195. They're going to be talked about forever.
  196. And
  197. I think that I think these lyrics are so
  198. inspirational to me is that
  199. you know they're they're harping on the entertainment.
  200. These conspiracies, conspiracy theories are entertaining to people.
  201. Nonetheless, if they're not true and
  202. the metaphorical satire combined with,
  203. they're a big band and they're saying these things, I want that sort of platform
  204. and my own songwriting.
  205. I hope that makes sense.
  206. I feel like I said that part. But
  207. my citations
  208. and that is why I love Californication by Red Hot Chili Peppers.
