This presentation highlights characteristics in design and structure that demonstrate the pros of small organizations over large organizations. The small org has numerous advantages over large organizations. In examining the impact Evergreen is able to maintain as well as positively affect social justice and community engagement, we see that large infrastructure is unnecessary to ensure high-quality service delivery and profitability. We are pro small org as these orgs have greater potential to perform at high levels of employee, stakeholder, and client engagement and satisfaction with fewer resources (Allen, n.d.). Taylor and I thank you for your time and welcome your feedback. Best regards, Taylor Schut and Margaritta Fultz

  1. Hello, everyone.
  2. My name is Taylor Margarita and I are here today
  3. to provide our argument for small organizations.
  4. We will use a prime case example to illustrate the
  5. real life application of a Siris of organizational design elements
  6. that, when implemented, provide small organizations and advantage over large
  7. organizations. Evergreen Dev.
  8. Co. Is a small organization founded over 45 years ago
  9. in Phoenix, Arizona, by Bruce Pomeroy and Andrew Skipper.
  10. Have a Green recently landed themselves on Forbes 2019 list
  11. of the best small companies.
  12. Both Forbes and ever green itself attribute their success to
  13. a number of design elements.
  14. Evergreen has built a team of 56 employees, which they
  15. have found is just big enough to allow them to
  16. achieve economies of scale, but small enough that they're able
  17. to function with speed and flexibility.
  18. Forbes noted that Evergreen creates strong intra organizational relationships by
  19. putting policies in place that allow and encourage employees to
  20. invest alongside the organization on any new projects.
  21. Evergreen prides itself on building a culture that focuses on
  22. DIA logic communication, where management focuses on hearing the needs
  23. of their employees, both related to personal, professional and family
  24. needs. Evergreen demonstrates the advantage small businesses have when they
  25. position themselves within a variety of formalized partnerships.
  26. Evergreen also has a foundation where their mission is to
  27. better not only themselves but also their communities and of
  28. communities abroad.
  29. Evergreen build strong roots within their communities by investing in
  30. a number of social justice initiatives.
  31. Thes points exemplified just a few of the design elements
  32. that give Evergreen their competitive advantage.
  33. Margarita and I will demonstrate in the coming slides how
  34. these design elements give small organizations a competitive advantage over
  35. large organizations.
  36. Small organizations have an advantage over a large organizations when
  37. it comes to agility, their ability to rapidly respond to
  38. market changes.
  39. Harvard Business Review noted that large organizations are no longer
  40. able to rest solely on their position and scale as
  41. a sustainable source for competitive advantage.
  42. Instead, they're seeing a trend towards flexibility as the new
  43. means for obtaining a competitive advantage.
  44. Small organizations are able to be more flexible due to
  45. fewer layers.
  46. This allows problems and consumer demands to make it from
  47. the front line employees to the owners quicker.
  48. The fewer layers within the organization also allows owners to
  49. distribute decisions throughout the organization faster.
  50. As a small team, Evergreen has focused on building up
  51. efficient procedures that can apply to a variety of unique
  52. projects. This allows them to adapt to whatever the development
  53. need is at any given time.
  54. Evergreens focused on developing their service in a way that
  55. allows them to apply it to a variety of projects
  56. is exactly what Harvard Business Review indicates.
  57. As small organizations advantage over large organizations, small organizations, small
  58. organizations are often less worried about doing one thing really
  59. well and instead can focus on the ability to be
  60. really good at adapting to new things.
  61. Hiko Hearts My Name is Margarita.
  62. Another compelling reason Taylor and I are pro small organization
  63. is the relative ease with which intra organizational relationships are
  64. formed and maintained between the organization's leadership team and employee
  65. stakeholders. With small arcs, there is less dynamic space between
  66. the leadership and the stakeholders.
  67. This is an advantage over large organizations where there is
  68. increased dynamic space between the leadership team, stakeholders and investors
  69. in large orcs.
  70. It's difficulty toe hold the organization accountable for profits and
  71. their return on investment, as there are numerous structural layers
  72. for the stakeholders to navigate within small org's employee stakeholders
  73. can have a much higher level of confidence in their
  74. investment when they have a relationship with the owners and
  75. leadership team and are able to build relationships on a
  76. foundation as committed and engaged employees.
  77. Case in point.
  78. The ever grade organization we're using as one of our
  79. exemplary models or a successful small organization, is comprised of
  80. a team of Onley 50 for employee stakeholders.
  81. These stakeholders represent the internal formalized relationship with the CEO
  82. within a small organization.
  83. They are the owner stakeholders who are fully vested financially
  84. and psychologically.
  85. Psychologically, Thio annually produce multimillion dollar profits for their internal
  86. and external partners.
  87. This brings me to the next advantage small organizations have
  88. over the large organization.
  89. Design and structure, communication, internal communications and external communications of
  90. small organizations are organic and less mechanistic.
  91. Due to the small or design and structure.
  92. Small organization communication is efficient, transparent and offers a local
  93. communication dynamic not seen in most large organizations.
  94. Efficient communication is an invaluable asset and serves as a
  95. means for the leadership team, internal and external partners to
  96. dialogue and plan appropriately another strong component to communication with
  97. small Orcs versus Large Factor org's is round table discussions
  98. where the employees air able to genuinely engage with discussions
  99. pertaining to the organization's strategic plan, direction and strategic actions.
  100. Organic communication is not always possible with large organizations, where
  101. the mechanistic structure requires a large mass of individuals to
  102. communicate with their respective directors to communicate ideas, information and
  103. messages that are critical to the success of the organization
  104. gets siloed with small org's roundtable discussions, frame and exchange
  105. of messages that can be trusted as those involved are
  106. listening as well as being heard.
  107. DIA Logic communication enable small organizations to leverage transparency and
  108. the efficient communication to network and build complimentary organizational Enter
  109. organizational partners.
  110. As Margarita mentioned, small organizations exploit their ability to use
  111. organic communication as a means to build both internal as
  112. well as external partnerships.
  113. A number of small companies on Forbes list of 2019
  114. best small companies capitalized on their ability to build strong
  115. inter organizational relationships.
  116. These smaller companies specialized in one service or product and
  117. were able to remain small by positioning themselves in formalized
  118. partnerships that allowed them to expand their reach without expanding
  119. their businesses.
  120. These companies realized the very thing Druckman at all described
  121. cooperation in both political and economic ventures is often better
  122. than independent action.
  123. Leo and Yang conducted a study that concluded that small
  124. businesses who placed themselves in inter firm networks allowed themselves
  125. not only to solve the problem of scarce resources but
  126. also position themselves to gain more knowledge about technological developments,
  127. customer preferences and competitors strategies.
  128. Evergreen attributes much of its success to its people.
  129. They acknowledge that without partnerships with big brands such as
  130. McDonald's or Starbucks, they would not be in the position
  131. they're in today.
  132. But it is not only their partnerships with customers they
  133. attribute their success to, but also their variety of joint
  134. ventures. Evergreen is not only representative of outstanding inter organizational
  135. partnerships and networking, but their high level of community engagement
  136. and social justice initiatives are financially supported and endowed by
  137. their foundation and donors.
  138. On this slide, you can see a few off both
  139. ongoing and annual philanthropic endeavors that meet some of the
  140. pressing needs of the community, Much like the other small
  141. organizations considered small giants, Evergreen has a sizable footprint even
  142. among its peers.
  143. They're addressing food and security, Foster care, education and even
  144. grieving Children.
  145. Taylor and I have made points on the various organizational
  146. characteristics and design and structure that result in our being
  147. pro small organizations.
  148. The small ORC has numerous advantages over large organizations.
  149. In examining the impact Evergreen is able to maintain as
  150. well as positively affect social justice and community engagement, we
  151. see that large infrastructure is unnecessary to ensure high quality
  152. service, delivery and profitability.
  153. We are pro small, or GE, as they have greater
  154. potential to perform at high levels of employee stakeholder and
  155. client engagement and satisfaction with fewer Resource is Taylor and
  156. I thank you for your time and welcome your feedback
