  1. My study was focused on men in nursing and the
  2. challenges that they face throughout their educational journey and career,
  3. as well as a shortage of male nurses.
  4. Since the beginning of nursing 18 hundreds, nursing has remained
  5. predominantly female and has little to no males entering the
  6. profession. This topic is important because it helps me and
  7. other males entering the nursing profession become aware of the
  8. challenges we may face in the near future.
  9. Most studies identify that there's a lack of male nurses,
  10. but do not identify reasons why there is a shortage
  11. of men in the nursing profession.
  12. My purpose of conducting this research project is to identify
  13. why there is a shortage of male nurses and the
  14. challenges male nurses face.
  15. I conducted a literature review of a scholarly articles that
  16. primarily focused on the topic of men in nursing.
  17. All studies agree that there is a shortage of male
  18. nurses and that there are many reasons why nursing remains
  19. predominantly female and agree that there are things we could
  20. change to encourage men in nursing.
  21. Some of the reasons that there are few men in
  22. nursing is the lack of recruiting a lack of room,
  23. male role models and men in nursing often experienced stereotyping
  24. to begin.
  25. There is a lack of recruiting of males for the
  26. nursing career.
  27. A lot of the recruitment videos and presentations you she
  28. her pronouns when discussing nurses, which suggests that nurses should
  29. only be female.
  30. Also, concerts failed to suggest nursing to high school mail's
  31. been discussing possible careers they may be interested in.
  32. Despite the lack of recruiting for those males who do
  33. attend nursing school, there is a lack of male role
  34. models. There's little to no mail nurses in history.
  35. It makes it seem like the nursing profession isn't only
  36. intended for females.
  37. Majority of the professors and influential people in the nursing
  38. programs are female, so male nurses do not have anyone
  39. to talk to who might have similar experiences.
  40. While in nursing school, many male nurses experienced stereotyping or
  41. feel isolated or singled out.
  42. Historically, nursing has been predominantly female, so it is stereotyped
  43. as feminine males and nursing profession report being called less
  44. masculine or even being called gay because of their job.
  45. Another is all of there being less males and nursing
  46. is that males are the minority in the classroom, so
  47. they are singled out more by the professors.
  48. There is not enough time in my project to interview
  49. men and nursing.
  50. So in the future, interviewing and researching more men that
  51. have experienced in the nursing profession and looking at more
  52. nursing programs can help identify more issues and reasons why
  53. men struggle to stay in the nursing profession.
  54. This topic is very important in the future.
  55. Research will lead to nursing becoming a more gender diverse
  56. profession. Here are the citations for my eight scholarly articles
  57. using this research project and thank you for listening about
  58. many owners.
