  7. Ah, a couple things about me.
  8. I'm from Hendersonville, North Carolina.
  9. Born and raised.
  10. Love the area.
  11. Came down here to Florida after graduating from college.
  12. Um, to be with some family who had moved down
  13. here have fallen in love with parts of Florida.
  14. Other parts?
  15. Not so much.
  16. Uh, but definitely some good memories here already.
  17. I am happily married to the love of my life.
  18. Miss Kirstie Wolf.
  19. She is the light of my life on and is
  20. quite the woman were actually pregnant right now looking at
  21. our first child coming here soon, very soon.
  22. In fact, in your year s o er, we'll kind
  23. of look forward to that.
  24. I have some baby pictures to share with you guys.
  25. Um, I do have a couple of for babies already.
  26. My feline overlords, they're pretty cool.
  27. Theo and Jimmy there a lot of fun.
  28. All right, So why am I here?
  29. What am I doing?
  30. What's going on with Mr Wolf?
  31. I am here for you ladies.
  32. John. Ultimately, I guess I'm also kind of here to
  33. pick up a check.
  34. But I could do that better somewhere else if I
  35. wasn't here for you.
  36. Right? I'm here to be a teacher.
  37. I'm excited to be in this profession.
  38. I'm excited to work with you to help you be
  39. your best self.
  40. I think we're gonna have a lot of fun this
  41. year. Achieving that right?
  42. I'm here on your side.
  43. So what are we doing?
  44. Well, you're doing English Class.
  45. Should be a lot of fun for us.
  46. Of course.
  47. Got the kind of the jargon example up here.
  48. You can see it, but it is exactly as you
  49. would expect it to be.
  50. In many ways where we working on skills of reading
  51. and writing and communicating many of those now with an
  52. emphasis on doing all those things in the 21st century,
  53. right. We're being pushed further and further into this digital
  54. era, especially currently with the covered situation.
  55. Um, we've got a lot to learn, a lot of
  56. master, so we'll be focusing on that throughout this year.
  57. Um, in terms of your grades catalyze.
  58. So I know what an English class.
  59. Looks like I've been to a bunch of them.
  60. But some things are different, right?
  61. For example, grades, uh, grading in my classes based on
  62. a points based system essentially give you points based on
  63. the importance of the assignment.
  64. Right. So a quick warmup assignment.
  65. Hey, I just want you to answer this question or
  66. two. Might be Something is low is like five points,
  67. right? Just a few.
  68. Just enough to get you through.
  69. Uh, that assignment, right?
  70. Make it worth something.
  71. Keeps adding up.
  72. They had a quickly right.
  73. Eventually, um, into quite helping your grade.
  74. Um, your homework assignments, maybe 10.
  75. Or maybe 20 depending on the intensity of that particular
  76. assignment. Your quizzes?
  77. Maybe 40 50.
  78. Your major test, maybe even up to 100 points.
  79. Ah, but they changed throughout.
  80. Right? And you're essentially earning a percentage of the points
  81. each time, which adds up to your grade.
  82. Um, frankly, I've had great success with it.
  83. The vast majority of my students pass.
  84. I'm more than willing to work with you.
  85. Frankly, your grade is what you wanted to be in
  86. this class.
  87. All right.
  88. So some expectations.
  89. The one you must come to class prepared to learn.
  90. That's everything that you feel right.
  91. You know better than I do your personal learning style.
  92. This point that you feel you need to be successful,
  93. right? There's some basics.
  94. There may be paper pens whole, maybe, or your text
  95. that we're currently reading.
  96. But, uh, I strongly suggest at this point you look
  97. into bringing a device to the class as well.
  98. Unfortunately, with the of coverted situation, we do not have
  99. laptops in my class as we have in the past.
  100. Onda majority of my content ties into, for example, Google
  101. classroom and things like that in some ways.
  102. So I strongly suggest bringing your own device to use.
  103. I will do my best to work with you when
  104. those mice can't be used.
  105. But I would definitely suggest bringing your own.
  106. It won't be able to work with that in terms
  107. of further expectations.
  108. I do expect you to respect yourself, respect others, right
  109. to treat each other appropriately.
  110. We're all in this together, right?
  111. Um, you guys didn't choose your give me in the
  112. room with right, but we're gonna make the most of
  113. it together, right?
  114. So I do demand that and kind of ah, base
  115. expectation. And this is one that that really will help
  116. you for the rest.
  117. Your life be on time.
  118. Whether that's being into my classroom on time, which is
  119. gonna be a new experiment this year.
  120. I understand the hallway movement and all that to be
  121. very different this year.
  122. We will work together, make that happen.
  123. But we're going to strive to be on time or
  124. those of you who are now gonna be working with
  125. me online logging on you actually have Teoh bake face
  126. to face contact with me during the class period.
  127. I'll be checking in with you throughout the class.
  128. Be there on time.
  129. Be you ready?
  130. Uh, to get started, right?
  131. We're going to be hitting it every day.
  132. 90 minutes?
  133. All right, so so continued expectations.
  134. With that, we are in some troubled times here with
  135. this health pandemic that we're in and we're going back
  136. to school, right?
  137. We're going to make the best stuff it.
  138. So while we're here, we're going to be very respectful
  139. of each other in each other.
  140. Space, right?
  141. The city, health, safety and cleanliness of others.
  142. Even if you're not particularly concerned about it for yourself.
  143. Um, I asked that you are concerned with the rights
  144. of others to a safe and clean classroom.
  145. Right. So, uh, you know, uh, poking fun at a
  146. student who may be taking this very seriously.
  147. Your bags, anything that you bring with you is going
  148. to stay under your desk.
  149. We want clear pathways we re using very little space
  150. s So we really need to make the most of
  151. it as we're trying to separate each other out and
  152. not to be safe here in the classroom.
  153. So if you're gonna bring a big bag, I must
  154. make sure that we are storing those You want to
  155. travel as light as possible at least this year.
  156. Ah, when you walk into my classroom or in this
  157. case when you log on to me with me, uh
  158. uh, are on my classroom, the expectation is that the
  159. drama of whatever is going on in life we try
  160. to leave that at the door.
  161. We try to leave that off of our online platform.
  162. I get it.
  163. Life happens on, we have to deal.
  164. And if you have a situation where you're like like
  165. Mr Wolf.
  166. There's no way that I deal with this with out.
  167. You know, I don't get through class right now with
  168. the other out dealing with this.
  169. Then reach out to me.
  170. I'm on your sign.
  171. I want to help you, right?
  172. Don't. Don't you sit there and suffer, right?
  173. Talk to me.
  174. I'm on your side.
  175. But at the same time, if you can let's try
  176. to leave it outside the door.
  177. Let's get through class.
  178. Let's keep moving forward together.
  179. All right?
  180. So when life happens, right here is the number one
  181. thing I give it.
  182. I understand, but I'm not a mind reader.
  183. You have to communicate to me that life is happening,
  184. That you need some help, for example, right?
  185. You, Uh oh, no, Mr Wolf.
  186. You know, something happened last night or on.
  187. I wasn't able to get on to do some homework,
  188. right? You know, the power went out right long term.
  189. Uh, and I was able to actually do that stuff
  190. that you asked me to do.
  191. What's Okay?
  192. All right, I got get And I've been in power
  193. outages to, uh but I don't know that unless you
  194. tell me right, Generally, even without explaining it to me,
  195. I accept late work if if you're not too concerned
  196. about it, I'm not either.
  197. I usually only subtract about 10% a day.
  198. Eso your first day Something's laid you're looking at like
  199. a 90.
  200. It still may, right that you can earn for that
  201. late the site.
  202. Then we subtract 10 10 10 10 Each day passed
  203. up to five days of entire school week late.
  204. Uh, you can still turn that into me for 50%
  205. all the way until the end of term.
  206. We start turning in grades.
  207. You can turn that in late to make, um So
  208. please, yeah, if you're sitting there going Oh, no, I
  209. don't have to grade that.
  210. I want to, Mr Rules, Right?
  211. Because I missed X assignment or y Asan give them
  212. to me on.
  213. We'll get him.
  214. Great. Well, given the great, But, you know, if something's
  215. particularly amazing, I've even been known Teoh even kind of
  216. scrap some of the lost points.
  217. If you really put in so high effort into this
  218. Simon right at the end of the day, I'm interested
  219. in you learning.
  220. So finish your work make it happen on get through
  221. it. All right.
  222. So specifically for online learning.
  223. And for those of you were gonna be in class
  224. with me, we're gonna be using Google classroom it zzz
  225. locus of all of our different systems.
  226. We get a bunch.
  227. But it is the center point through which everything will
  228. be pushed out.
  229. All assignments, all links to the other things that were
  230. using over class meetings.
  231. Everything will be through Google classroom eso please make sure
  232. that you are using Google classroom to its full effectiveness.

  234. I want to help you with your with your local
  235. class are problems.
  236. I do want to make sure that we are aware
  237. that, uh, even if we moved to online class, right,
  238. uh, let's say they they closed classrooms or those of
  239. you who are already staying home.
  240. Right, And you are gonna be engaging with me for
  241. your attendants.
  242. You do have to check in with me during the
  243. period every single class day in order, Teoh not catch
  244. an absence for that.
