00:01 - 00:01
Hi, everybody.
00:02 - 00:03
Today I'm gonna talk to you a little bit about
00:04 - 00:06
Andres Choice of colleges to attend.
00:07 - 00:10
So first, let's learn a little bit of under.
00:11 - 00:15
So Andre was his high school valedictorian, and he really
00:15 - 00:18
is passionate about history, especially black history.
00:19 - 00:20
He wants a career involving history.
00:21 - 00:23
He spent some time working at a history museum this
00:24 - 00:27
summer and really enjoyed learning about black history and especially
00:27 - 00:28
the history of his family.
00:29 - 00:31
And he really wants to keep studying history.
00:32 - 00:35
He doesn't have a real clear career path identified because
00:35 - 00:37
he's not sure what he wants to do with that.
00:38 - 00:40
But he knows that he wants history to be kind
00:40 - 00:41
of the center of what he studies.
00:42 - 00:45
He comes from a really supportive family who support him
00:45 - 00:48
in his pursuit of a history area.
00:49 - 00:50
But they do want him to go ahead and decide
00:51 - 00:53
and make some decisions on what he wants to study.
00:55 - 00:58
So some of the considerations that Andres looking at are
00:58 - 01:03
the academic programs, the extracurriculars and the climate of the
01:03 - 01:11
campus. So the two schools that Andre is considering our
01:11 - 01:16
Nash Community College and Johnston Community College Nash Community College
01:16 - 01:17
was established in 1967.
01:19 - 01:20
It's located and Rocky Mount.
01:20 - 01:25
North Carolina has 99 academic programs and a very strong
01:25 - 01:26
national online presence.
01:28 - 01:32
Johnston Community College, which was established two years later in
01:32 - 01:36
1969. It's located in Smithfield, North Carolina, and serves approximately
01:37 - 01:38
13,000 students.
01:38 - 01:45
Preview some of the pros for each school.
01:46 - 01:49
Nash Community College has a very strong online program that
01:49 - 01:50
has been in place for years.
01:52 - 01:55
It has wraparound service is called Blue Love, which provides
01:55 - 02:01
scholarships and mentoring and student wellness center benefits.
02:02 - 02:06
It's a very beautiful campus, a little more rural, and
02:06 - 02:07
it's a warm and welcoming environment.
02:11 - 02:15
Johnston Community College is has a couple of items that
02:15 - 02:19
Nash does not, including a history club, Ah, Black History
02:19 - 02:23
Month Committee and a specialized honors program for high achieving
02:24 - 02:30
students. So how did Andre make his decision?
02:31 - 02:35
Andre decided to attend Johnston Community College, and the reasons
02:35 - 02:39
are, the academic program is basically going to be the
02:39 - 02:39
same at both schools.
02:40 - 02:43
He's gonna pursue a new associate of arts degree in
02:44 - 02:44
college transfer.
02:45 - 02:47
That way he'll get all these basic and his regular
02:48 - 02:50
credits. Out of the way as he's coming in, is
02:51 - 02:51
a valedictorian.
02:52 - 02:54
It's very possible that he also has some A P
02:54 - 02:58
credits. Eso he may not even be act the school
02:58 - 02:59
for the whole two years.
03:00 - 03:03
He's probably not going to struggle academically as valedictorian.
03:04 - 03:06
He's probably very well prepared for the college.
03:07 - 03:10
So either where he either school, he goes to, he's
03:10 - 03:11
gonna be comfortable.
03:12 - 03:14
And it's very likely, in addition to that, that he
03:14 - 03:16
may need some of it somewhat of a challenge.
03:17 - 03:21
And because Johnston has that specialized honors program that may
03:21 - 03:23
offer a little bit more of a challenge to him.
03:25 - 03:28
But what really so sold him and what seals the
03:28 - 03:30
deal are some of the extras.
03:30 - 03:32
The History Club, the Black History Committee.
03:33 - 03:38
He's really interested in history in black history, especially so
03:39 - 03:44
having Johnston recognized those committees, and those clubs really give
03:44 - 03:47
him some opportunities that he wouldn't get necessarily at Nash.
03:48 - 03:52
Additionally, Johnston's closer to Raleigh and that's closer to the
03:52 - 03:55
big city, so he'd have a little more opportunity for
03:55 - 03:59
internships and other programming as well.
04:01 - 04:04
So that's how John Andre decided to attend Johnston Community
04:04 - 04:08
College and hopefully he will be happy and successful and
04:08 - 04:11
complete his associates degree and go on to a four
04:11 - 04:16
year university, where he can decide what exactly he wants
04:16 - 04:17
to do with this history degree.
04:17 - 04:19
Would he like to go into museum studies?
04:20 - 04:23
Or would he like to go into teaching or just
04:23 - 04:27
stay in history in general and do research?
04:28 - 04:31
So that is Andres Choice, and he chose Johnston Community
