  1. Now let's move on to talk about the national offer Day on what
  2. happens when you find out which go your child has been offered.
  3. National Offer Day
  4. is in March,
  5. and it's the day when all Children in England are advised the school place that they
  6. as a parent, you must expect or declined the school place,
  7. either through the e admissions portal.
  8. If you applied online, all by completing the Web form link in the outcome email.
  9. If you're writing a paper form.
  10. If your offer isn't for any of your preferred schools,
  11. your counsel can offer you a place yet another school
  12. where it's possible
  13. this school will be the nearest school show home. Address
  14. the house places remaining
  15. If there are no places remaining near you or your child or you
  16. don't wish them to go to that school that has been offered,
  17. there will be considered as unplayed aced
  18. on the council and us will conduct contact you to discussion options.
  19. Do talk to us if this situation arises for you because whilst it isn't very common,
  20. we are here to help you resolve it.
  21. Any school places that may have become vacancies theory.
  22. Jinnah law office were made, our then offered.
  23. Once everybody has accepted or declined places by the deadline,
  24. this means that if you didn't get offered your first choice,
  25. but you remain on the waiting list,
  26. you may well be offered that first choice after
  27. everybody's decided which school they want to accept,
  28. as usually a bit of shuffling and shakedown.
  29. So the final school that your charity offer it is not what you're hoping for.
  30. There is still
  31. some flexibility, and it is worth remembering that.
  32. So what happens if you don't get the place you want and you want to appeal?
  33. You do as a parent, have the legal right to appeal against the decision
  34. that's been made to not offer your child place
  35. that any of the schools that you've applied for,
  36. even if they were of replaces another school.
  37. So, for example, if you weren't offered your first choice,
  38. but you were offered your second
  39. and you still really want the first choice,
  40. then you can appeal
  41. in your email that tells you of the place you've been offered.
  42. There will be information on your right to appeal,
  43. and you'll need to contact the school directly to
  44. find out how to submit your appeal to them.
  45. Do you bear in mind that when considering an appeal,
  46. you have to think very carefully about whether your reasons
  47. for wanting your child to attend the school are exceptional,
  48. so you cannot be purely because they really wanted?
  49. It has to be something completely out of the ordinary
  50. on If you have any questions around that,
  51. you can always talk to us about whether
  52. we think it would be a successful application.
  53. So primary schools are the start of the child's education
  54. from the moment they arrived with us
  55. in the nursery right through two years. Six.
  56. We're preparing them for the next stage.
  57. Whether that's the next year group
  58. key stage or moving on to high school,
  59. there's often a rumour with primary schools that we
  60. don't prepare for any sort of tests or selective schools
  61. on the truth. Is that a primary schools? We want to give our Children
  62. the best well rounded education we can
  63. to give them the best options and choices in life.
  64. All the Children that we teach are different,
  65. and therefore different schools will suit them
  66. and you know your child better than we do,
  67. so you will know which kind of environment they will thrive in.
  68. But we do have a lot of approaches throughout school
  69. that helps to build this choice for your child
  70. throughout your child's time.
  71. This we teach a mastery approach to the core subjects,
  72. and these are the subjects that will come up in the key stage three curriculum.
  73. So when they are moving on to high school, they have a really sound grounding
  74. in these core subjects.
  75. High schools, as we've seen,
  76. do require Children today a lot more
  77. independent and resilient than primary schools.
  78. There's an awful lot of transition and changing,
  79. whether that's the different rooms, two different teachers.
  80. So as Children goes through key Stage two Green Lane
  81. on, especially in tier five and six,
  82. we continue our work to develop these skills to give them confidence.
  83. We talked to them a lot about high school. We have ex pupils come to talk to them,
  84. and we do a lot of different workshops.
  85. Where Children can air anywhere is that they may
  86. have or any things that are on their mind.
  87. We love hearing how well Children from green aid of adjusted
  88. on do we often invite our high school pupils back to tell us what it's like
  89. about six or so weeks after they started their new schools?
  90. We have a number of ex pupils. You come back to volunteer here
  91. to teach here
  92. because actually being cast of the community
  93. doesn't end when you leave Green Lane.
  94. If you're worried about how your child my transition to high school,
  95. then please do speak to their your class teacher
  96. or remember the leadership team
  97. on, we will really support you in that
  98. we always meet with the teachers on the
  99. year group leaders from the secondary schools,
  100. and they will come in and meet your child in school as well.
  101. Your child's class teacher will talk to their form tutor or their head of year
  102. about how your child is getting on.
  103. And if there are any particular ways in which we could help them settle in more
  104. so your child has a place in secondary school,
  105. and now you're wondering what happens next. How do we prepared in the home?
  106. But there are lots of ways in which that country schools liaise with primaries.
  107. It's likely that your child will be invited for induction day,
  108. either in the summer term or the school holidays.
  109. And sometimes they'll be workshops and activities running throughout the summer
  110. to help your child feel confident in that new environment.
  111. If that isn't available
  112. or perhaps your child can't attend that,
  113. then it is very common
  114. for year sevens to start the school before the rest of the year groups.
  115. This means that they are only surrounded by people of a similar age
  116. on the much smaller group,
  117. so they confined their bearings on their way around a space.
  118. And it is usual for secondary schools to have this staggered start
  119. so they can get to know exactly what's going on in a much less pressured environment,
  120. a big changes that pupils will need to learn to
  121. move swiftly between classrooms to get their next lessons.
  122. And this is something that pupils often say they worry about
  123. how schools the world compared for this
  124. on your child will very quickly feel like they've never been anywhere else.
  125. When they come to visit us a green lane,
  126. they usually tell us how tiny it fuels compared to where they are now.
  127. So as we draw to a close. I would like to really take the opportunity
  128. to thank you for giving your time up to find out a little bit more about high schools.
  129. And of course,
  130. you can re watch this video back. If there's anything that you aren't sure about,
  131. it's really important that you ask as anything that you need to know
  132. that we support your child because their
  133. education doesn't end when they will count.
  134. Agree name.
  135. Thank you for your time and attention,
  136. and we very much look forward to supporting you and your child
  137. in this exciting journey onwards.
