00:02 - 00:03
Good afternoon,
00:03 - 00:05
my name is Lindsay Mcmillan and today I
00:05 - 00:08
will be discussing the importance of classroom rules.
00:09 - 00:11
It is very important to have classroom rules displayed
00:11 - 00:14
at the very front of the classroom and cover these
00:14 - 00:16
on the very first day of class and keep
00:16 - 00:18
them reinforced throughout the remainder of the school year.
00:19 - 00:21
There are two that we're gonna be focusing on today
00:22 - 00:26
and those two are number one, the golden rule,
00:26 - 00:29
which is to treat others the way you want to be treated.
00:29 - 00:33
And the second one is no cell phones or unapproved
00:33 - 00:36
technology unless it is approved by me in the classroom.
00:37 - 00:41
The first rule we want to talk about is the golden rule which is how to treat others.
00:41 - 00:42
The way you want to be treated.
00:43 - 00:46
This goes for all students in the classroom as well as the teacher.
00:47 - 00:50
This applies in every aspect of every child's life that
00:50 - 00:54
they will go through from their adolescence to adulthood.
00:54 - 00:58
It actually will help students understand their behavior expectations and
00:58 - 01:01
the consequences of those when they enter the workforce.
01:01 - 01:04
So it's important to start training them on this now
01:05 - 01:06
versus when
01:06 - 01:08
later waiting until later on in life for them to begin.
01:10 - 01:14
The second rule is no cell phones or unapproved technology allowed in class.
01:14 - 01:18
And the reason why is because they tend to be a distraction in the classroom.
01:18 - 01:21
So teachers should really consider the value of
01:21 - 01:24
what is being collected with the technology and
01:24 - 01:25
how can it best be leveraged in the
01:25 - 01:29
classroom with students with parents and also with
01:29 - 01:31
data recording for grades.
01:32 - 01:36
Another thing to consider too, are the consequences of these actions
01:38 - 01:43
and if a student does not abide by these, there will be a series of consequences.
01:43 - 01:46
The first will be a verbal warning by me where I will
01:46 - 01:49
pull the student aside one on one and have a discussion as
01:49 - 01:53
to um what the behavior was that they did wrong and what
01:53 - 01:57
will happen as the next consequence if the behavior continues to repeat.
01:58 - 02:00
The second consequence is after school detention
02:01 - 02:04
and third will be parental involvement where the student will need to fill out
02:04 - 02:09
a form and have it signed by the parents to acknowledge what the behavior was
02:09 - 02:14
and the next steps that will be corrected and then finally involving the office such
02:14 - 02:17
as the principal school psychologist and also
02:17 - 02:19
the parents in those discussions as well.
02:20 - 02:23
And one final act. I want to make sure that everybody remembers in the classroom
02:23 - 02:27
is to pause and reflect before you act because
02:27 - 02:31
this will help build a positive student community that is
02:31 - 02:34
needed before students enter the real world and begin
02:34 - 02:37
careers where they need to work on these skills,
02:37 - 02:41
both from a technology perspective, as well as a behavior perspective.
02:41 - 02:43
Thank you have a great day
