  1. Hello. My name is Jaden Daniels, and today I will
  2. be talking about the cold fired energy power plants that
  3. are in Virginia.
  4. So how many power plants are actually in Virginia?
  5. There are approximately six.
  6. And in 2018, Virginia had a total capacity of 29,635
  7. nw percent.
  8. The percentage of electricity generated in this day is about
  9. 4%. Okay, The primary called the Primary Coal Power Plant.
  10. I should say that I will be talking about is
  11. the one in Chesapeake Bay.
  12. It is owned by Robert Mueller, and the parent company
  13. is Dominion and Dominion owns most of the coal power
  14. plants in Virginia, and this power plant has been operating
  15. since 1953.
  16. And I have collected data for the emissions of pollutants
  17. into our atmosphere, and I tried to find the most
  18. recent ones.
  19. So for carbon dioxide, it was about 17.9% and that
  20. was in 2018 for the other three elements.
  21. I didn't find the emissions, but I found reductions.
  22. So for sulphur dioxide, it was 89% for nitrogen oxide,
  23. it was 61% and mercury was 20% so you can
  24. see over time how not using coal has caused these
  25. elements to decrease in our atmosphere and in our stay.
  26. Compared to other states, we use less coal than normal.
  27. So we're about we're about in the center, mhm, and
  28. it's slowly decreasing over time.
  29. There's more energy sources have been found, and the bulk
  30. of Virginia's coal plants must shut down before 2025 under
  31. the new state law that has been initiated by our
  32. governor. Now what do I think will happen in the
  33. future for these coal power plants?
  34. I think that scientists will find better resources out there
  35. that are more reliable and are more stable because there
  36. is wind energy.
  37. But where I live, I don't think that would quite
  38. work very well because there are some days when it's
  39. really windy and some days where it's not as windy
  40. and in order to build wind turbines or wind meals,
  41. will have to cut down a lot of trees and
  42. clear out room, which will cause for deforestation.
  43. Yeah, and also there is solar energy, but there are
  44. really cloudy days out there, and I just don't think
  45. it's, um the most reliable thing we can count on.
  46. Okay? And also, I still think we should mind Cole,
  47. because coal is used in a lot of everyday products
  48. that people used and they don't even realize it.
  49. And also, coal is good for our economy.
  50. Um, China is one of the number one buyers for
  51. coal from America, and that is really, like I said,
  52. really good for our economy.
  53. And it kind of builds that relationship a bit more.
  54. It makes it a bit more stable and also where
  55. I live.
  56. Most people rely on coal for money and to bring
  57. in money for their taxes to help pay.
  58. Um, just the everyday things in life that you need.
  59. And most people around here, um, have jobs as coal
  60. miners or have family who works in the coal mines.
  61. And if that shut down, that wouldn't really be good
  62. for like where I live.
  63. Because my county and all the surrounding counties around us
  64. mostly rely on coal as well, and there's not much
  65. job opportunity.
  66. So it would cause for a lot of people to
  67. leave here, eventually turning our town and many other towns
  68. into ghost towns So that is just my personal opinion.
  69. And thank you for listening to this video.
  70. And I hope you have a good day, right?
