00:01 - 00:07
Hello, this is Tony Burr with education 5 19 with the Uni uh Upper Iowa University
00:08 - 00:10
and wanted to talk to you about Prey
00:10 - 00:11
for L MS
00:11 - 00:15
with my company at Middle Craft uh Mason City Iowa.
00:16 - 00:16
And
00:17 - 00:19
uh uh one of the things I was looking for was
00:19 - 00:24
an opportunity to see a more interactive uh presentation tool.
00:24 - 00:27
And so far I have my, my
00:28 - 00:31
uh overall abstract, I guess of this is that
00:31 - 00:35
uh I like it and there's still more investigation to do that.
00:35 - 00:37
I think there's more to do.
00:37 - 00:42
Uh I'm not real big on the web-based services on this, the saving
00:42 - 00:44
uh and, and retrieval of the,
00:45 - 00:48
the information sometimes can be difficult. Um
00:48 - 00:53
And the cost itself per year, I'm not sure if it's worth it or if there is
00:53 - 00:57
uh sources or utilized tools like with uh
00:57 - 00:59
Microsoft powerpoint that can do the same thing,
01:00 - 01:03
but so far so good. I like, I like the different um
01:03 - 01:06
solutions of different interaction that it does provide.
01:07 - 01:08
So let's get into it.
01:08 - 01:09
So
01:10 - 01:13
I had a problem that needed a tired solution.
01:13 - 01:14
And so
01:14 - 01:15
um
01:16 - 01:18
one of the things that I had here was that
01:19 - 01:20
uh
01:20 - 01:24
our, we have a lot of different learning management systems.
01:24 - 01:26
We have a lot of different courses.
01:26 - 01:29
We have a lot of different uh charts, presentations,
01:29 - 01:32
power points, PDF S
01:32 - 01:35
that are very um
01:35 - 01:37
the, the information comes from all sources.
01:37 - 01:41
It would just be nice to have a one source area that's interactive
01:41 - 01:45
and it can be changed and upgraded as time goes on.
01:45 - 01:47
One of the problems that we have is
01:47 - 01:51
as soon as it seems like we build a video or make a video that's already outdated.
01:51 - 01:56
And so we want to make something that can be very changeable change on the fly,
01:56 - 02:01
quickly change um with the times and it's cost effective.
02:01 - 02:03
We have looked at different solutions.
02:03 - 02:06
We have tried to purchase a uh different L
02:06 - 02:11
MS licensing from other learning management systems very expensive.
02:11 - 02:15
Um And it's kind of a one size fits all, you know,
02:15 - 02:18
you throw a spaghetti against the wall, hopefully some of it sticks
02:18 - 02:24
a lot of the courses we had uh that we had to purchase aren't applicable to us.
02:24 - 02:24
Um
02:25 - 02:28
We looked at opportunities for A I to use
02:28 - 02:32
uh artificial intelligence programs to make training videos.
02:32 - 02:38
Um not really at this time cost effective. So
02:38 - 02:42
uh utilizing this, um we saw that there were some opportunities here.
02:43 - 02:46
So we looked at presi as an option here.
02:46 - 02:46
Um
02:47 - 02:50
And what I like about presi so far is that there is some interaction,
02:50 - 02:53
there is some ability to integrate
02:53 - 02:57
embed videos, embed different, uh, you know,
02:57 - 03:01
uh different types of slides. And I really like that opportunity there.
03:01 - 03:06
Plus it just looks a little bit cleaner, it looks a little bit more efficient.
03:06 - 03:08
It's set up a lot better,
03:08 - 03:10
in my opinion than it is Power Point.
03:10 - 03:13
So I do like that. I really do like the option of that.
03:14 - 03:14
Um,
03:14 - 03:18
I have yet to see a little bit more of the interaction that you could take
03:18 - 03:21
uh an existing photo or existing thing
03:21 - 03:23
to make it more interactive.
03:23 - 03:26
But um so far, you know, from first glance,
03:26 - 03:29
it's worth cons considering to go a little further out that.
03:31 - 03:31
So
03:32 - 03:32
um
03:33 - 03:36
is this a gimmick or effective presentation tool?
03:36 - 03:40
Uh You know, one of the things that I'm looking for is is that we do,
03:40 - 03:43
what we do is build labels, identification tags, different technologies
03:44 - 03:46
and we have a machine that we look at
03:47 - 03:50
that builds these radio frequency identification tags. RF ID,
03:51 - 03:55
the, the, the, the machine that builds these tags, it typically takes between
03:56 - 03:58
6 to 12 months to train somebody.
03:58 - 04:00
And what we wanna try to do is we wanna try to see
04:00 - 04:03
if we can make it a little bit shorter of a training time
04:04 - 04:07
and more effective with interactive tools,
04:07 - 04:12
interactive learning modules. And if, if we can do that
04:12 - 04:15
and build those on our own, utilizing pre
04:15 - 04:16
for example,
04:16 - 04:21
that that would be a huge win for us that we can continually keep grooming.
04:21 - 04:22
Um As time goes on
04:26 - 04:26
prey
04:27 - 04:29
has shown a lot of interaction to me.
04:29 - 04:31
One of the things is just, you know, the slides,
04:31 - 04:34
I'm going back and forth as you noticed there.
04:34 - 04:36
Um I can create a lot of
04:37 - 04:41
uh kind of interaction that you have to go and find and search
04:41 - 04:44
uh the, the, the different types of solutions
04:45 - 04:49
as you can see there. If I go back to just this slide deck right here
04:49 - 04:51
or just this part here it goes
04:52 - 04:55
to the next slide like that. And I really enjoy that.
04:55 - 04:57
That's something that to me is a lot better
04:57 - 05:01
in my opinion than it is for Microsoft powerpoint.
05:01 - 05:02
So if you get into pre pre
05:02 - 05:03
here,
05:04 - 05:06
I, I really like that feature.
05:06 - 05:10
Um I'm hopeful that I can take some of the interactive photos
05:10 - 05:13
that maybe some video that we have for our machines that we have
05:13 - 05:15
to take a look and
05:15 - 05:18
say, you know, hey, I'd like for you to point at
05:18 - 05:21
this and then have a button that can click on.
05:21 - 05:24
They have to click on and say, hey, show me where the rotary die goes.
05:24 - 05:26
Show me where this, you know,
05:27 - 05:27
um
05:28 - 05:28
the,
05:29 - 05:31
where this the spindle,
05:31 - 05:32
where should that,
05:32 - 05:35
where should the paper go? Where should the inlay go
05:35 - 05:40
um in your case right there. So then the ability is to have more of
05:41 - 05:41
a,
05:41 - 05:42
you know, click here
05:43 - 05:45
and then get the correct solution on that.
05:45 - 05:47
It would be awesome. I have yet to find
05:48 - 05:52
a quiz feature in this um interaction. I'm sure there is one
05:53 - 05:55
and I'm gonna continue to keep investigating that.
05:58 - 06:01
One of the things I really do like is, is collaboration.
06:02 - 06:06
I'm not gonna pretend to know everything about, you know, the converting machines,
06:06 - 06:09
the, the the machines that put our RF ID tags together.
06:09 - 06:12
So it would be really cool if I could get other
06:12 - 06:16
machine operators, we call them converters, converting machines.
06:16 - 06:19
Um If we can have other converters that could get together,
06:19 - 06:23
take a look at my presentation and make changes as we go along.
06:23 - 06:25
I think a lot of gets lost in translation.
06:25 - 06:30
I think if you print stuff out, try to take a look at it. I can miss stuff.
06:30 - 06:33
So if I could teach someone else to, to, to,
06:33 - 06:35
hey, this is what this does,
06:35 - 06:38
am I right here? And no, you're not. This is the change.
06:39 - 06:41
They can just make the change as it goes along.
06:41 - 06:46
Um, wordsmithing it, making it look good would be also a good be benefit as well.
06:49 - 06:51
So inclusion, I've learned a lot about presi,
06:52 - 06:54
I'm getting more and more excited about it.
06:54 - 06:56
Um I don't really like
06:57 - 07:00
the saving. So a lot of times when you're, you're online,
07:01 - 07:05
I'm sure there is a desktop app that you can put on your desktop computer.
07:05 - 07:08
Um I have not yet looked at that
07:08 - 07:11
because I'm not sure if I want to continue to keep using this.
07:11 - 07:14
It does have a I am on a two week free trial,
07:15 - 07:16
but it is cost about 200
07:16 - 07:17
some dollars a year
07:18 - 07:19
again.
07:20 - 07:23
But these things, I'm kind of learning as I go along.
07:23 - 07:26
I, these are the things I've identified I want
07:26 - 07:28
and if I can find them
07:28 - 07:31
with uh Microsoft powerpoint, then I might just use them.
07:31 - 07:35
However, if I can't find what I want in Microsoft powerpoint,
07:36 - 07:37
then I will definitely consider presi
07:38 - 07:39
as the next option there. So
07:40 - 07:45
II I think this was a good uh use of uh trying to find the next technology.
07:45 - 07:50
Um What it has done for me is identified. What exactly I want
07:51 - 07:55
in a technology to help present our trainings to our, our employees.
07:58 - 07:59
So
08:00 - 08:04
that is our team at Metal Craft, part of our team there. So
08:04 - 08:07
if you have any questions, uh let me know. Thanks.
