00:01 - 00:03
Hello from, oh Claire Wisconsin,
00:03 - 00:09
my name is Christy Mackler and this is my 27th year in education,
00:10 - 00:14
My family. Um I've been married to my husband Travis for 10 years.
00:14 - 00:16
Um I brought two kids to the marriage.
00:16 - 00:20
So my son Jaden is a freshman in high school, he is 15
00:21 - 00:25
and my daughter Kaylee is a vet out in Seattle.
00:25 - 00:32
She specializes in small animal surgeries um enjoys operating on exotic,
00:32 - 00:35
so a lot of times it's birds and snakes and
00:35 - 00:37
hedgehogs and anything she can get her hands on.
00:37 - 00:40
I don't know where she gets that, it's not from her mother.
00:40 - 00:42
Um and then I have two dogs,
00:42 - 00:47
I have a german shepherd named bear and an Australian shepherd named atlas.
00:49 - 00:54
Um I graduated from the University of Wisconsin Madison and
00:54 - 00:57
I am about the biggest bucky fan you can find.
00:57 - 01:03
Um I graduated with a degree in elementary head and then a health education minor.
01:03 - 01:09
Um When I graduated from Madison I took a position teaching in Hawaii
01:09 - 01:13
and I ended up spending 12 years teaching on the island of molokai.
01:13 - 01:17
So while there I taught at King Kamehameha Elementary School,
01:17 - 01:20
which is located in Lahaina Hawaii right next to the
01:20 - 01:22
big old banyan tree if you've ever been there.
01:22 - 01:25
Um it was a great experience, it was a very
01:25 - 01:29
Culturally diverse experience for my first years of teaching
01:29 - 01:32
um and King Kamehameha III was a large school,
01:32 - 01:37
we had about 800 students at the time and it was also an inclusive school,
01:37 - 01:40
which was different for the time when I was starting.
01:40 - 01:43
So we were kind of a pilot school for the state of Hawaii
01:45 - 01:51
in 2000 and 11 I moved home to Wisconsin um And
01:51 - 01:55
I took a position teaching for regis regis catholic school,
01:55 - 01:56
it's private school.
01:56 - 02:00
Um I started off teaching in fifth grade and then went to the middle school,
02:00 - 02:03
teaching middle school um Reading and language arts.
02:03 - 02:04
Um
02:05 - 02:09
The Middle School High School has about 450 students, it's a combined school.
02:09 - 02:13
Um And then we have three elementary schools that kind of feed into our system.
02:14 - 02:17
Another passion of mine since I started teaching at regis.
02:17 - 02:20
So in about the last eight years I've also been
02:20 - 02:24
a cooperating teacher for students in their last semester practicum.
02:24 - 02:28
Um And I worked on global experiences.
02:28 - 02:32
So I took one group of cooperating teachers about
02:32 - 02:35
eight years ago to china and we spent the summer
02:36 - 02:39
um working in schools in shanghai and Beijing,
02:39 - 02:42
this is a picture of the kindergarten classroom that I worked in.
02:42 - 02:46
Um and then about four years ago actually it was right before the pandemic.
02:46 - 02:50
We took another group of teachers um on an experience and
02:50 - 02:53
we went to Costa rica and worked with the bribery tribe
02:54 - 02:56
and we worked primarily with high school students.
02:56 - 02:57
Uh this summer,
02:57 - 03:03
the day after school finishes um I leave to Bella bello
03:03 - 03:08
Horizonte in brazil and I will be guiding teachers at the university
03:08 - 03:12
there on what american education looks like and what experiences they
03:12 - 03:19
can have for international travel and placement in our Wisconsin schools.
03:20 - 03:25
My current position at regis is I am the academic and crew planner.
03:25 - 03:28
Uh This is an unusual position for most schools,
03:28 - 03:32
so I do all of the attendance scheduling
03:32 - 03:36
dual uh partnership agreements and then I meet with
03:36 - 03:40
every single junior and senior uh individually to plan
03:40 - 03:41
out what their last two years look like.
03:41 - 03:44
So we based it on where their goals are and what they
03:44 - 03:47
want to do and if they should be in dual credit opportunities,
03:47 - 03:51
so if they should be at our local technical school or at our university school,
03:51 - 03:56
um if they should do an ap track um where their interests lie and and setting
03:56 - 04:00
them them up for success for whatever direction
04:00 - 04:02
they plan on going after they graduate.
04:02 - 04:08
So in my current position I would say that I have had to be proficient in technology.
04:08 - 04:14
Um I am the administrator for our system wide Sky where it's
04:14 - 04:19
all five schools um I oversee everything that goes into that system,
04:19 - 04:23
whether it be grade report cards, attendance, lunch count, uh State reports,
04:23 - 04:26
even though we are a private school,
04:26 - 04:28
we are part of the Wisconsin parental choice program.
04:28 - 04:32
So that requires that we submit um monthly
04:32 - 04:35
reports and quarterly reports to the state.
04:35 - 04:40
Um So that is kind of a big bear in all in and of itself as Skyward.
04:40 - 04:44
Um It also is where we do all of our scheduling for all of our students
04:44 - 04:50
um and then google google classroom, uh still with covid being an issue much less,
04:50 - 04:54
thank thank you, jesus, um much less,
04:54 - 04:58
but it has been something that we've had to focus on,
04:58 - 05:01
so um making sure that all teachers have their
05:01 - 05:05
google classrooms up to date and they are submitting
05:05 - 05:07
their video lessons so that at any point we
05:07 - 05:10
can transition students to virtual education when needed.
05:10 - 05:14
Um Right now we're kind of having an uptick in cases in our area,
05:14 - 05:18
still minor compared to what it was before, so we will take it.
05:18 - 05:21
Um and we also are a test to stay school.
05:21 - 05:25
Um so that's helped us a lot, but I have had to kind of oversee the google classrooms.
05:25 - 05:30
I am also in charge of security canvas and our website
05:30 - 05:32
and then future goals for me is
05:32 - 05:35
actually something that happened relatively recently.
05:35 - 05:40
Um I have been named our middle school and high school principal.
05:40 - 05:43
I am an interim principal right now, starting next year,
05:43 - 05:45
um actually starting july 1st.
05:45 - 05:50
Um so I'm interim until my degree is done, but it's very much what I have,
05:50 - 05:53
I've been planning for and preparing for,
05:53 - 05:55
so I'm very excited about what the future holds
