00:01 - 00:06
greetings. My name is trinity EPPS, a freshman hailing from V.
00:06 - 00:09
Woodbridge Virginia, a criminal justice major
00:09 - 00:16
And I am here today to talk about what I learned from the freshman studies course 101
00:16 - 00:18
the fall semester.
00:21 - 00:23
So the first thing I want to talk about is
00:23 - 00:27
how the freshman studies course has made me a better student
00:28 - 00:33
coming from or transferring from high school to college.
00:33 - 00:37
There's a major difference that I've learned and
00:37 - 00:39
that we've even talked about in class.
00:39 - 00:43
I know that the freshman studies course has helped me
00:44 - 00:47
what time management, the hour of the power were cheap.
00:48 - 00:53
I got to regroup and rethink about how I spend my days every day
00:54 - 01:01
and where I may need to put more time in than I use for my personal life,
01:01 - 01:02
things like that.
01:03 - 01:04
Um
01:04 - 01:10
Another thing with my student life academically over the pandemic.
01:10 - 01:17
I know I and many others have started to lose motivation and kind of sight of
01:18 - 01:21
what things we want in life and the vision board
01:21 - 01:25
that we did in freshman studies have definitely helped me.
01:25 - 01:29
I got to regain and think about what things I want in my
01:29 - 01:35
future and what things that need to be doing now to accomplish those.
01:37 - 01:42
The next thing that the freshman studies course has helped has helped me with is
01:43 - 01:44
my personal life.
01:44 - 01:47
So even with character,
01:47 - 01:51
the self discovery where she and the disc assessment
01:51 - 01:54
that we did had better help me kind of
01:55 - 01:59
realize who I am and kind of determined
02:00 - 02:04
some attributes to me that I didn't really know about myself.
02:04 - 02:05
Um
02:06 - 02:07
It had kind of
02:09 - 02:11
made me realize what reputation
02:11 - 02:12
I want to leave
02:13 - 02:17
and I've also had to
02:17 - 02:19
do communication skills,
02:19 - 02:22
that was another thing that freshman studies to help me with.
02:22 - 02:27
Um I had to reach out to my peers with the alma mater,
02:28 - 02:28
we,
02:29 - 02:29
you know,
02:29 - 02:33
got to be able to talk to each other and communicate
02:33 - 02:36
with each other outside of class even though we do in class
02:37 - 02:38
and yeah,
02:41 - 02:46
my next thing I want to talk about was how I better got to learn
02:48 - 02:55
being a trojan, so coming to an HbCU is different for me.
02:55 - 02:58
Um growing up, I was not really
02:58 - 03:00
in schools that
03:01 - 03:03
I was surrounded by people that looked like me.
03:03 - 03:08
So coming in hbcu is something that I take great pride in
03:08 - 03:14
and we got to learn more about the Virginia State University,
03:15 - 03:19
um the President Abdullah, we got to learn um
03:20 - 03:23
When we were founded in 1882
03:24 - 03:28
and kind of more about just our surroundings.
03:28 - 03:32
Um even with college we had a financial literacy module
03:33 - 03:37
that helped us that helped us better understand,
03:37 - 03:43
you know, how we can benefit from the honors program, the scholarships grants,
03:43 - 03:49
the foundations that they have available have available for us.
03:50 - 03:51
Um
03:52 - 03:56
even with paying for college, the loans we can take
03:56 - 03:58
and things like that, just
03:59 - 04:01
still succeed throughout
04:01 - 04:03
all the money we're spending
04:05 - 04:10
also with being a trojan and a freshman um this class
04:11 - 04:16
is very important as in order to, you know,
04:16 - 04:21
be a part of clubs and different things on campus, you have to have this um
04:22 - 04:23
this course credit
04:23 - 04:26
and so being able to participate
04:26 - 04:27
and
04:28 - 04:29
like um
04:30 - 04:32
not Royal Court but
04:32 - 04:34
like tab and
04:34 - 04:39
Even D nine like all the different clubs and organizations,
04:39 - 04:42
sororities and Greek life that you can do.
04:43 - 04:43
Um
04:44 - 04:47
we kind of just got a better importance of
04:48 - 04:52
what pride you need to take in in the school and pretty much
04:54 - 04:56
and that will conclude my
04:57 - 05:01
final project for the freshman studies one A one class.
05:01 - 05:04
Again, my name is trendy apps, A freshman
05:04 - 05:06
hailing from Woodbridge Virginia,
05:06 - 05:11
a criminal justice major and I just want to say thank you for this class and
05:11 - 05:12
thank you for your time.
