Hi, everyone! Welcome to Sunday School from Shepherd of the Hills UMC! This is Lesson 12: Priscilla (based on Acts 18:2-3, 18, 26; Romans 16:3; 1 Cor. 16:19; 2 Timothy 4:19).
I utilized Acts of the Apostles by William Kurz, SJ (Baker Academic, 2013) and Wil Gafney’s sermon “Priscilla: Pastor, Preacher, Apostle” (7/26/20) in preparing this lesson.

- Hi, everyone.
- It's Summer Sunday School lesson 12 for Silla for August
- 23rd 2020.
- And it's me, Miss Laura.
- I missed you guys a lot, and I'm excited to
- tell the story today.
- So first we're gonna memorize or practice our Bible versus
- that. We've been practicing for months now, John 11.
- 25. Jesus said I am the resurrection and the life.
- Next start Easter memory verse is Colossians 1 15 and
- 16. The son is the image of the invisible God,
- the firstborn over all creation for in him all things
- were created and lastly, our summer verse Matthew 22 Jesus
- said Love the Lord your God with all your heart
- and with all your soul and with all your mind
- This is the first and greatest commandment.
- And the second is like it Love your neighbor as
- yourself. Now, if you go to our YouTube channel, you
- conceive videos of us practicing the sign language and science
- for these Bible verses.
- So now we're gonna pray.
- Lord Jesus, you are the image of the invisible God.
- You are the resurrection of the life.
- Please teach us how to love you and our neighbors.
- Amen. That is a lot of Bible versus we memorized,
- by the way.
- So great job, everybody.
- So now we're going to do our Bible story.
- Our Bible story is about a lady named Priscilla.
- And so here is how it starts.
- One day, Salt traveled to a city called Korans to
- go tell more people about Jesus.
- When he was there, he met a married couple named
- Aquila and Priscilla.
- There were Christians from the city of Rome and they
- became friends with Saul.
- They started teaching people about Jesus together, and they started
- working together to because they all each had a second
- job. Besides teaching people about Jesus, which was that they
- made tense booth, you know that eventually Solve decided to
- leave Corrine and Priscilla Nakoula went with him When they
- got to a city called F Assists, Priscilla and Aquila
- hopped off the ship and stayed there to share the
- good news.
- News of Jesus with the people and song went on
- without them.
- So one day in ethicists Priscilla follow into the synagogue,
- the place of worship for Jewish people.
- There was a man named to Paulose there, and he
- came up to the front and he started talking.
- But he didn't say what everyone, they're expected him to
- say. He started talking about Jesus.
- Priscilla and Aquila thought, Wow, he's doing a great job.
- This is amazing a menace.
- He kept talking.
- They were like, Oh, no, this guy Apollos is missing
- some really important parts of the story.
- Priscilla and Aquila took Apollo society and said, Hey, we
- need to talk to you And they explained the whole
- story of Jesus to him because he was missing some
- important stuff.
- What follows is probably glad that they helped him, but
- maybe embarrassed to after that he was able to tell
- the whole story about Jesus just right whenever he shared
- the good news, thanks to Priscilla and Aquila.
- Now, at the end of his letters to churches and
- pastors saw what often mention other people who were with
- him, wanted to say hi or people who he wanted
- to say hi to.
- So it would be like writing a letter to your
- cousins. And at the end, if you write, say hi
- to Aunt Maria in three of Saul's letters, that's the
- kind of thing that saw, says Ah, he wrote to
- the Christians in Rome and his friend Timothy.
- He wouldn't in those letters, he wrote Say hi to
- Priscilla Nicola.
- And in one of his letters to the Christians in
- the city of Corinth, he wrote, Hey, Priscilla, Nicole are
- here with me.
- They say Hi.
- So Priscilla and Aquila were important in Saul's life at
- work, and they were all friends.
- This certain serves Jesus together, and maybe that doesn't seem
- like a big deal to us.
- But it was a really big deal back then, because
- Solid doesn't just say that he worked with Aquila or
- that Aquila top people about Jesus.
- No, he always mentions Priscilla, and her name usually gets
- mentioned first, and it sounds like she's doing a lot
- of the teaching about Jesus, too.
- And back then, women weren't teachers, and even a lot
- of Christians didn't think women should be teaching, either because
- of women like Priscilla, though nowadays we have a lot
- of women who teach the Bible like this.
- Amy and I miss Sam.
- When she preaches of the service, it seems normal to
- us, and that's a good thing, because anyone who belongs
- to Jesus can share the good news about him.
- So what did you guys think about the story?
- Had you ever heard of Priscilla before or where she
- knew? Do you share your thoughts and questions with us?
- Let us know how you're doing.
- And if you missed virtual VBS, don't worry.
- All the videos air still in our playlist and on
- the church website.
- So you can follow the links at the bottom to
- our YouTube playlist, if you'd like to.
- It was great going through acts with you guys this
- summer. And if nothing else, I hope you heard some
- news stories you've never heard before from the Bible.
- So let's do our closing blessing as we end.
- May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the
- love of God on the Fellowship of the Holy Spirit
- be with us all now and forever.
