00:01 - 00:07
Hello to the American school in Japan. My name is Amy Clemens and I'm going to
00:08 - 00:13
my very best under three minutes. Tell you about myself, such a hard task. Ok.
00:13 - 00:15
So originally from Tennessee,
00:16 - 00:20
I have two beautiful Children, ages 23 and 19.
00:20 - 00:23
Alyssa and Quentin, who live in Tennessee still.
00:24 - 00:31
Um I got into education originally wanting to be a school counselor and then I went
00:31 - 00:37
back to school after I landed a job as a teaching assistant to get my master's degree
00:37 - 00:38
in special education.
00:39 - 00:40
And from there,
00:41 - 00:43
I was hired as a
00:45 - 00:49
middle school six through eight inclusion science teacher.
00:49 - 00:51
Uh and this is me trying to make it through the
00:51 - 00:55
hallway because I'm short and nobody recognizes me as a teacher.
00:56 - 01:01
And so, uh through that experience, I was able to collaborate with six teachers.
01:01 - 01:06
I was co teaching with 2/6 grade, 2/7 and 2/8 grade teachers. And at the same time,
01:06 - 01:12
I was also coaching varsity and JV girls volleyball, which was amazing.
01:12 - 01:17
Um I also was able to coach my daughter for a year. So that was a fun challenge.
01:17 - 01:23
Um And then from there, I decided after 35 years of living in Tennessee,
01:23 - 01:25
I was going to move to Georgia
01:26 - 01:31
and there I started as a elementary teacher
01:31 - 01:34
in 4th and 5th grade doing learning support.
01:35 - 01:40
I was collaborating with 22 teachers on each grade level.
01:41 - 01:45
And I did that for two years and then finally wrapped
01:45 - 01:48
up the next 2.5 years as a teaching support specialist.
01:48 - 01:52
And that is just a fancy way of saying I was coaching coaching
01:52 - 01:57
teams and I was working and collaborating alongside our um
01:57 - 02:04
mtss coordinator and our academic coach and our administrative team.
02:04 - 02:11
And um it was a wonderful experience I learned so, so much during that role. And um
02:11 - 02:14
I would love to talk more about that experience.
02:14 - 02:16
Um If I get to interview with you guys.
02:17 - 02:21
Um after that, I decided I wanted to teach abroad.
02:22 - 02:27
So I attended a MISA conference in Atlanta, Georgia and landed a job here
02:27 - 02:28
in Lima Peru.
02:29 - 02:35
Um It just so happened to be right during the pandemic, I accepted the job in 2019.
02:35 - 02:39
And then of course, March of 2020 was the pandemic. Here's my
02:39 - 02:41
little cohort that I came in with
02:41 - 02:46
quite an experience. I learned a lot quickly. Um
02:47 - 02:50
I moved to a country, I moved outside of the country for the first time,
02:51 - 02:53
learning a new language, um
02:53 - 03:02
learning how to teach online so many things. Um And so why am I applying to a SI J
03:02 - 03:03
and
03:03 - 03:05
just to keep it short and sweet.
03:06 - 03:09
I really strongly believe in living your passion
03:09 - 03:13
and I wanna create learning environments that foster student growth
03:13 - 03:16
and classrooms should always change and mold to support
03:16 - 03:19
the neurodiversity of students and that it holds.
03:19 - 03:24
And I just truly believe that a SI J embodies that belief.
03:24 - 03:28
And so thank you so much for your time. I appreciate it. Have a great day.
