  1. high class, welcome to module to in 63 52.
  2. Technology and school change in this video, I'm going to
  3. talk about what we did last week.
  4. What we're doing this week, what your readings and videos
  5. are, and then we're gonna go over your assignment for
  6. this week.
  7. So I want to say thank you very much for
  8. all of your work on your epic selfie adventures.
  9. Some of you learned a new skill which was converting
  10. a power point to a video, and I just I
  11. enjoy getting to know everybody more.
  12. It helps to build a great classroom environment where we're
  13. not afraid to take learning risks and where you feel
  14. like you can share, um, information that's relevant and necessary.
  15. I know that as I was reading through your personal
  16. learning goals, a lot of you mentioned anxiety about being
  17. kind of thrown into a being a virtual teacher, teaching
  18. virtually and without the resource is or supports that are
  19. necessary to make you to relieve your anxiety and to
  20. make you successful.
  21. So hopefully everything that you learn in this class you
  22. can use right away, and then you can share it
  23. with your colleagues to alleviate their stresses.
  24. Well, so the next part is that we are going
  25. into the first E in the Tripoli framework, which is
  26. engagement. So this week, you're gonna reach after two of
  27. your textbook, which is a deep dive into engagement.
  28. You've got to review the S T students standards.
  29. There's seven standards.
  30. And in total, when you go to that website, you'll
  31. see that there are its text.
  32. And then if you click on it, you can actually
  33. see videos of the practices of the strategies and practice
  34. so you can actually see what thes standards arm what
  35. they look like.
  36. Um, you have two articles by Liz Cold.
  37. They're both pretty brief.
  38. And then you have I want you to go to
  39. her website and review the information about engagement and about
  40. instructional support strategies.
  41. And the reason to do this is this addition that
  42. we have now is a new textbook, and she doesn't
  43. touch on the instructional support strategies like she did in
  44. the previous book.
  45. But they're extremely important, and I just want to make
  46. sure that you have a good base of what engagement
  47. is. So that's why I want you to do that,
  48. then the last thing in that reading list isn't essentially
  49. reading, but it's a tool, a learning.
  50. It's called the Learner Variability Tool Network Tool.
  51. Um, it's very, very cool.
  52. So I want you to go and start exploring and
  53. looking at, um, the tool and the factors and the
  54. pieces of learning that are also relevant to whatever topic
  55. it is that you're that you teach.
  56. You see what I mean when you got out to
  57. the tool when you start exploring?
  58. I want you to do this this week because you
  59. will use this tool next week in your assignment.
  60. So get out there.
  61. Practice, watch the videos.
  62. There's so much information and in that tool that's useful
  63. to my gosh, I feel like just about everything, so
  64. you'll do that you have a couple of videos to
  65. watch. Some of them are list cold, talking about instructional
  66. support strategies and engagement.
  67. And when you hear her say in Chapter three or
  68. in Chapter nine, don't get freaked out because Chapter three
  69. in Chapter nine aren't the same in the first edition
  70. as they are in the second edition.
  71. Just know that whatever it is, that she's talking about
  72. is extremely relevant what it is that you're learning.
  73. So don't get Don't get worried about that.
  74. Um, the next thing that we're going to talk about
  75. is your assignment.
  76. So this is called juggling perspectives, and I don't want
  77. you. Okay, let me just say this this week, what
  78. you're going to do is learn how to juggle, and
  79. so make sure that you have something around your house.
  80. Just find something around your house that you can actually
  81. learn to juggle with so you can use scarves.
  82. You can use balls, you can use socks, Whatever it
  83. is. Take some time each day to practice the skill.
  84. Make sure that you record yourself because you have to
  85. record yourself in order to get full credit for the
  86. assignment. And then at the end of the week, what
  87. you're gonna do is reflect on your learning using the
  88. triple E evaluation tool, and you're gonna want you to
  89. felt the whole thing.
  90. But I want you to really focus on the engagement
  91. aspect of, um, this learning experience.
  92. So why learning how to juggle a couple reasons?
  93. Um, the first is that a lot of us in
  94. our positions, despite the fact that you're you might be
  95. in a new situation with having to teach virtually we
  96. forget how difficult it is for some of our students
  97. had to learn something new.
  98. And if you haven't had exposure to learning how to
  99. juggle before it z be hard.
  100. And if you are like me and you're uncoordinated, then
  101. it's extra heart.
  102. So I want you to remember what it's like to
  103. have to learn something new and to put it in
  104. a different perspective, and then I want you to think
  105. about it from I want you to be reflective and
  106. think like, Well, how could I make this lesson more
  107. engaging? What are the tools or resource is that I
  108. could use to make this lesson more engaging?
  109. Because I know the lesson that you have it There
  110. is not.
  111. I know it's not perfect, but I want e wanted
  112. something for you to do so you could start.
  113. Um, so there are some other things about juggling that
  114. you may not know juggling is actually, um, it's qualifies
  115. as like a brain break butcher helpful when you're in
  116. the midst of learning a whole bunch of new stuff,
  117. but it also helps white.
  118. It helps build white and gray brain matter.
  119. It's been linked to lessening.
  120. The likelihood that you'll get Alzheimer's disease actually helps with
  121. your focus.
  122. Your obviously, your attention increases your ability to learn it
  123. increases your coordination.
  124. It's supposed to help with help reduce cravings.
  125. Don't know about that.
  126. Um, I didn't experience that.
  127. If you guys experience it, great, let me know.
  128. I didn't find that.
  129. But maybe you will.
  130. So I just I want you to I know it's
  131. difficult. You're not gonna be perfect.
  132. I don't care if you're not perfect.
  133. I just want you to try is with everything else
  134. in this class.
  135. You get out what you put in.
  136. So just remember that there is a separate space for
  137. you to upload your juggling perspective video.
  138. It's there in red.
  139. Please make sure that you use that.
  140. And don't forget to upload your videos.
  141. You won't like I said, get full credit for the
  142. assignment, and that is essentially it for this week.
