  1. great high.
  2. All s o today.
  3. We're going to continue with a muscle movement and how
  4. the body works when we're talking about exercise.
  5. Um, so we talked about a muscle contraction to classes
  6. ago. Um, and no, I just want to go a
  7. little bit further into that, um, and talk about ah,
  8. your muscles and how we refer to them as they're
  9. doing movement.
  10. Eso muscle contractions caused different types of movements.
  11. Toe happen.
  12. The 1st 1 we're gonna talk about the first.
  13. It's pretty much vocabulary today.
  14. We're gonna talk about the agonist or the prime mover,
  15. So if we go back here, you'll see I wrote
  16. agonists too far back.
  17. Um, the agonist is the pet of the official scientific
  18. word that we use the prime movers what you're going
  19. to hear more often.
  20. That's why I have both in here.
  21. Ah, and that is the muscle that causes the movement
  22. over the joint.
  23. So that is the muscle that is like directly doing
  24. the action.
  25. So, like the easiest thing Thio connected to is a
  26. bicep curl.
  27. Right? Because the prime mover is in the name.
  28. So your bicep is doing the work.
  29. It's the primary mover.
  30. It's moving over that elbow joint.
  31. Um, and that shows here in this movement.
  32. So the agonist is this bicep right here?
  33. So there's some exercise that will go over, um, at
  34. the towards the end, just so yes.
  35. Have an idea, Because we're gonna do an activity that
  36. has to do with that thes.
  37. Um, he's, uh, vocabulary words.
  38. So the next one we're gonna talk about is the
  39. antagonised. I want to go all the way back here
  40. so that you can see these words.
  41. Um, so the antagonised opposes the movement of the agony,
  42. so we'll talk a little bit more about that now.
  43. So, um, it opposes the movement of the Agnes.
  44. It relaxes.
  45. So when that muscle relaxes, it allows the movement of
  46. the prime mover to happen.
  47. Um and that So the same picture you're going to
  48. see, um, I'm gonna go back to the last picture,
  49. just so it's a little bit less confusing.
  50. So in a bicep curl, the agonist is the bias
  51. up. The tricep actually flattens or relaxes toe.
  52. Let the the bicep contract and pull over the joint.
  53. Remember, muscles can only pull on boats.
  54. So you're if your tricep is pulling on the boat,
  55. Sam Boone is your bicep.
  56. You're not gonna have any movement and just imagine your
  57. arms would be locked out.
  58. Um, and so here in the antagonised, when we just
  59. have another example and it would be a tricep movement.
  60. So, um, in this one, you're doing like, a tricep
  61. kind of exercise where the tricep here is tthe e
  62. um, agonist and the bias have actually relaxes and lengthens.
  63. And is Thea antagonised?
  64. Um, the thing I like about the arm movements I
  65. think I said this before is that if you have
  66. a T shirt on or something, you can actually see
  67. that muscle lengthening.
  68. So if you curl your bicep up, you can see
  69. it shortening and you can feel on the back of
  70. your arm that tricep lengthening going all the way back.
  71. The last one we're going to talk about is a
  72. sinner. Gist.
  73. So a sinner just works together with the agonist.
  74. The prime mover t help create the movement.
  75. So these are gonna be like your smaller muscles, um,
  76. that are working to, like, hold the weight or stabilize
  77. a joint or something like that So, um, the easiest
  78. one for me to talk about.
  79. Um, hold on.
  80. Let's get definition center.
  81. Just helps with the prime movement.
  82. Um, it helped perform the same action.
  83. Is the agonists easiest way to defiance?
  84. Easiest way to talk about it.
  85. Um, movement I have here.
  86. So the sinner gist is gonna be like your forearm
  87. to help hold the mustard to help hold the weight,
  88. right? Or if you feel on a pull up or
  89. something like that, Often times the first thing to go
  90. is your grip.
  91. Right. So, like your four arms get tired, those would
  92. be the synergistic muscles working.
  93. They're usually small muscles.
  94. They usually fatigue pretty quickly.
  95. So sometimes people think that the prime movers, but they
  96. are not so, like in a pull up the prime
  97. mover is actually your back.
  98. Your lattes, right?
  99. If you didn't know that.
  100. And your, um, the antagonised is your chest.
  101. Okay. Let's, uh, go to All right, So this is
  102. the last thing, and these are these muscle pears.
  103. Um, just to give you an idea about how the
  104. Agnes and Antagonised muscle pairs work, they're usually front and
  105. back of the part of your body, but sometimes they're
  106. not. So we're just gonna focus on these big ones
  107. on. And if you do have questions about some of
  108. the smaller muscles, some of the smaller movements in your
  109. body can always ask, um, again, I say here, muscles
  110. always work in pairs because they could only pull on
  111. boats. So one contracts, the other relaxes.
  112. That way they can complete the movement that your brain
  113. is trying to signal.
  114. Um, so these are the formal terms for these muscles.
  115. You don't have to know this.
  116. Um, but the 1st 1 is a, you know, the
  117. bicep and tricep.
  118. That's the front in the back of that arm.
  119. Those those ones work together an opposite.
  120. So vice of contracts try step relaxes and vice versa.
  121. Um, the next one is I should really change.
  122. Is the gastric genius and the tibia Ellis interior, That
  123. is your calf muscle and the front of your shit.
  124. Um, this won't be on the quiz, but your calf
  125. will contract and that the front of your shin will
  126. relax when you're doing, like, a toe raise or something
  127. like that.
  128. And vice versa.
  129. When you point your toe or when you pull your
  130. foot up.
  131. So when you pull your toe up towards the towards
  132. the sky, um, you'll feel a stretch in your calf
  133. and you might even feel a little tightness in the
  134. front of your leg.
  135. Um, your quads and your hamstrings that's pretty self explanatory.
  136. The quads or the front of your thighs, your hamstrings
  137. of the back of your thighs.
  138. Um, the glutes and the groin work opposite each other,
  139. so the glutes are your backside, and the groin is
  140. the front of your hips up top.
  141. They worked opposite one another.
  142. So if you've been in the Greg Center when we
  143. do, um, hip bridges, we are working those glutes and
  144. the, um, And sometimes you'll feel that stretch in your
  145. hip flexors in the front, and you're in your groin
  146. up there so often times in, these parents are working
  147. together. When you are working the prime mover, you actually
  148. feel a stretch.
  149. If you're tight in that opposing in that antagonised on
  150. your chest and your back work together, so in a
  151. push up the chest is gonna be the prime mover.
  152. The back is gonna relax to allow the Tappan across
  153. your shoulder and vice versa.
  154. And a pull up the back is the prime mover,
  155. and the chest is in a relaxed to allow that
  156. movement to happen.
  157. Um, so just an extra example, Um, during a leg
  158. curls when you bring your heel to, um when you
  159. bring your heel back towards your back, your hamstring is
  160. the agonist.
  161. Your quadricep is your antagonised.
  162. And during a light extension, when you straighten that leg
  163. out, your quadricep is the antagonise.
  164. It's shortening and your hamstrings.
  165. I'm sorry.
  166. The Carters jump is the agonist, and then your hamstrings
  167. are the antagonised, okay?
