  1. good evening. Uh, today I'm gonna be doing my project on the Volkswagen,
  2. uh, diesel scandal. So I'm going to give a little history about Volkswagen.
  3. Volkswagen was created by the German Labor Front, 1937.
  4. Um,
  5. I guess they're made,
  6. their first objective was obviously supply the german
  7. war machine to all the little scout cars,
  8. the tanks, even, and even, um, like military trucks and such,
  9. of course, you know, we know we know how it ended. They lost the war and
  10. Uh, later on after the war in 1945
  11. came out of the first, the first vehicles, the UK, actually,
  12. the ones that oversee them whenever they took the
  13. occupation from between west Germany and east Germany.
  14. So
  15. yeah,
  16. Volkswagen
  17. Is generally big company now.
  18. I mean they own Audi Bentley Lamborghini, Bugatti Ducati.
  19. I mean, they list goes on,
  20. there's like eight or nine companies that are
  21. under the Volkswagen family for just Volkswagen alone,
  22. they make about 88 million cars.
  23. So, and then I come to find out upon further research.
  24. About half those 4.6 million are diesel cars.
  25. Uh, diesel cars are very popular in Europe, especially because in Europe,
  26. they're seen as healthier renewal.
  27. Like a healthier in terms of gasoline, I guess. I never understood that.
  28. I try to do further research,
  29. but I don't know like you couldn't find anything that was clear
  30. that would determine like gas and diesel
  31. because I kept reading diesels bad everywhere.
  32. So, I don't know, maybe they got like a healthier key. So, or whatnot.
  33. Uh, diesel is a type of fuel that is,
  34. well it's refined from crude oil and it has like a little bit of sulfur in it
  35. I guess. Um I guess makes it perform better for bigger vehicles obviously.
  36. Uh this is uh being sold for in the
  37. in the gas or
  38. fuel. Um
  39. it produces harmful pollutants.
  40. Uh one thing I read about it was it was a ground level ozone.
  41. So I mean I wouldn't go again. I didn't give me much of a clear understanding.
  42. But to what I under what I read was it would damage
  43. would damage the ozone layer as much as every other vehicle.
  44. But this one would do it aggressively.
  45. Yeah.
  46. Uh when Volkswagen Volkswagen is established in Germany when they were
  47. coming to the US to
  48. start the production here they have E. P. A. E. P. A.
  49. Is the Environmental Protection Agency which regulates
  50. all the admission of the car.
  51. Thanks woman.
  52. As I was saying the EPA is
  53. supposed to limit the harmful pollutants now that amongst all vehicles,
  54. not just days or Volkswagen itself.
  55. Um so they recognize that diesel is a
  56. very very bad economic or non economic environmental
  57. uh polluted. So they tried to they put standards and limited towards that.
  58. So I think they limited how much sulfur was refined into it and like the percentage
  59. of the percentage of it at all that however Volkswagen didn't like that very much.
  60. And
  61. when they were trying to sell vehicles in here in the U. S.
  62. They had installed a software that would when being tested for emissions would be
  63. it would be like okay like no it's all it runs good like it's not illegal in any way.
  64. However in 2015 people putting piece and piece together and
  65. recognize like well how come this car is saying this,
  66. but this car isn't kind of thing
  67. and eventually it came out that Volkswagen was
  68. putting in software for these vehicles only in the
  69. US and they came out about it and it was it was like a really big thing.
  70. I mean it was from models from like
  71. and it was wouldn't even just Volkswagens and stuff.
  72. It was Audi's certain types of Audis.
  73. Volkswagens and I think I want to I want to say Porsche as well
  74. that had the software updates located.
  75. Um Audis was then revoked of their diesel selling privileges
  76. and
  77. They couldn't have these cars on the road and I mean they're they're
  78. illegal so they issued a buy back program that was like $3.6 million.
  79. They were buying back every vehicles from Audi a four is a six
  80. but it was only specific models and had to be diesel obviously.
  81. So like 2014 through 2016 bodies.
  82. Jettas I mean Volkswagen Porsche certain certain models of course like Jettas
  83. I believe the Passat Audi A six is 84 is eight threes
  84. and I don't know what Porsche is.
  85. I didn't see that part but any car they buy back from you and you get all the money for,
  86. for free.
  87. Um, Volkswagen has definitely turned around their company.
  88. Like I said, they got revoked from selling diesel cars and the
  89. in the US and now they're on the complete opposite end of the spectrum.
  90. I mean now they producing top of line electric luxury cars, fully electric.
  91. I mean those things are beautiful looking. I've seen them in person,
  92. 100% recommend them. Um
  93. but
  94. yeah, that's my presentation.
