00:01 - 00:01
Hi everybody.
00:02 - 00:04
My name is Sana Manier and today I'll be sharing
00:04 - 00:07
with you leadership value to include all students.
00:08 - 00:08
Let's get started.
00:10 - 00:13
First thing is the word equity equity to me means
00:13 - 00:17
making sure every student has the resources and support they
00:17 - 00:18
need to be successful.
00:20 - 00:22
But how do we get these resources and support?
00:23 - 00:25
Well, you need to know all of your students.
00:25 - 00:28
You need to know each and every individual and to
00:29 - 00:29
do that.
00:29 - 00:34
You need to make sure you have students empower their
00:34 - 00:39
voices and share their experiences as the facilitator.
00:40 - 00:41
How will you do that?
00:42 - 00:42
There's various resources.
00:43 - 00:44
There's various websites.
00:45 - 00:48
For example, we used a website called flip grid dot
00:48 - 00:51
com, which the students absolutely loved.
00:52 - 00:54
It's actually a website used for anything.
00:54 - 00:58
You could use it for activities, morning meetings, reading responses
00:59 - 01:00
or math activities.
01:01 - 01:04
Students have the ability to upload a video and share
01:04 - 01:04
their thoughts.
01:05 - 01:08
Also, they may comment on the other students and responses
01:08 - 01:09
as well.
01:10 - 01:13
The best thing is that they share their experiences and
01:13 - 01:14
their voices are heard.
01:15 - 01:19
Next thing is the classroom climate create a safe classroom
01:20 - 01:23
climate, pause address and discuss.
01:25 - 01:27
Let's go a little, let's go a little deeper in
01:27 - 01:28
that one.
01:28 - 01:36
So next thing is to acknowledge every student acknowledge every
01:37 - 01:43
holiday, use individual paired and group activities in your lesson.
01:49 - 01:51
Next thing is to value relationships.
01:52 - 01:56
Students who feel safe in the classroom will perform better
01:57 - 01:58
and gain your respect.
02:00 - 02:05
Use activities such as a morning greeting, making connections, smiling
02:06 - 02:10
often also connecting with the families.
02:13 - 02:15
This is the most important one to connect with the
02:15 - 02:18
families. Have some fun things in your classroom.
02:19 - 02:22
For example, we do something called joke of the day
02:22 - 02:24
where students are able to, you know, share a joke
02:25 - 02:26
or I'll say the joke of the day.
02:27 - 02:29
We take time and we listen to them.
02:30 - 02:33
We show our we show our authentic self.
02:34 - 02:36
For example, I'm a mom, I have a six year
02:36 - 02:39
old, I have a three year old and some days
02:39 - 02:41
when I have a bad hair day, like my students
02:42 - 02:43
will be like, miss me or what happened to you.
02:44 - 02:46
And I'll say, you know, I forgot my lunch, I
02:46 - 02:47
was running around and dropped my keys.
02:48 - 02:51
Just have like a simple situation and just make it
02:52 - 02:57
very um, take a simple situation and just kind of
02:57 - 03:00
elaborate and you know, just kind of make it like
03:00 - 03:02
as if the world is falling apart.
03:02 - 03:06
So the kids can relate to you have a very
03:06 - 03:09
simple situation and just kind of elaborate it and make
03:09 - 03:10
it more dramatic.
03:10 - 03:13
So the students can be, you know, relatable to you.
03:13 - 03:15
Oh my God, this is where you have such a
03:15 - 03:15
bad day today.
03:16 - 03:21
Mhm Another thing is when students respect their teacher, they
03:21 - 03:26
feel motivated to try hard because they don't want to
03:26 - 03:29
disappoint. You're kind of like a family member to them,
03:30 - 03:32
You're kind of like family to them in the school
03:32 - 03:36
environment. Next thing, the next thing we're going to look
03:36 - 03:40
at is champion the needs of students and community.
03:42 - 03:44
You want to have a parent engagement as much as
03:44 - 03:48
possible, be transparent and build their trust.
03:49 - 03:54
For example, during the snowstorm this year, in february, I
03:54 - 03:57
reached out to all of my parents and I knew
03:57 - 04:00
that some needed shelter because of their electricity, some needed
04:01 - 04:02
supplies, some needed food.
04:03 - 04:05
The little the little step I took just to reach
04:06 - 04:10
out to the parents really impacted my families and I've
04:10 - 04:11
gained so much connection.
04:13 - 04:17
They, the little effort I took just to text my
04:17 - 04:18
families to make sure they're okay.
04:19 - 04:20
Really went a long way.
04:20 - 04:21
We built all these relationships.
04:22 - 04:24
they were reaching out to me, making sure their child
04:25 - 04:26
completed their online assignment.
04:27 - 04:30
So it's these little things that make a really great
04:30 - 04:35
deal. The next thing is to volunteer show your face
04:37 - 04:37
other than the classroom.
04:38 - 04:43
For example, we had the Covid vaccine um given out
04:43 - 04:43
to the family.
04:44 - 04:45
So I volunteered.
04:46 - 04:47
They had a lot of questions like, oh my God,
04:48 - 04:50
what happens to like what happens to your arm?
04:51 - 04:53
Just make them feel comfortable, you know, hurt.
04:56 - 04:58
They were saying, oh what happened to you?
04:58 - 04:59
You know, what happened to your arm?
04:59 - 05:01
Just having a little conversation here and there.
05:02 - 05:04
Just made them feel a little more comfortable to make
05:04 - 05:05
sure to get this vaccine.
05:06 - 05:09
Another thing I do is I post a lot on
05:09 - 05:11
my teacher, instagram and my twitter page.
05:12 - 05:14
So the families are able to understand what's going on
05:14 - 05:16
in my classroom, what activities I'm doing.
05:17 - 05:19
So it kind of makes them connected in a little
05:20 - 05:24
bit. So it kind of gives them that connection outside
05:24 - 05:26
of the classroom and they kind of know what's going
05:27 - 05:30
on because students sometimes don't share all of the activities
05:31 - 05:31
we do.
05:31 - 05:34
So it helps them and keeps them in the loop
05:34 - 05:39
of our classroom posting on twitter or my teacher instagram
05:39 - 05:43
really helps my parents communicate with their Children better, so
05:43 - 05:46
they know what activities were doing and you know, and
05:46 - 05:50
it kind of gives them, it kind of keeps them
05:50 - 05:52
in the loop of what's happening in the school.
05:54 - 05:59
Always remember that it takes a village, collaborate with your
05:59 - 06:04
team, communicate, communicate with your parents, communicate with your co
06:04 - 06:09
workers, your admin, your families, it's all about talking and
06:09 - 06:10
you know, learning and listening.
06:11 - 06:13
So that is all for today.
06:13 - 06:15
And I hope you guys enjoyed my way of making
06:16 - 06:17
the classroom a little more.
06:32 - 06:37
Oh my God, Well, I hope you guys enjoyed my
06:37 - 06:40
weight and practices to keep the classroom.
06:42 - 06:42
Uh huh.
06:55 - 06:57
I hope you guys enjoyed my practice is to make
06:58 - 06:59
sure I include all in my classroom.
07:00 - 07:02
Thank you so much for watching and have a wonderful
07:02 - 07:03
day. Bye bye.
