  1. Hi, this is my Unit three project.
  2. My videoing of my World War One propaganda poster.
  3. Let's get started.
  4. So the title of this is the importance of essentials
  5. and World War One propaganda.
  6. Hi, I'm linda Gilani and this is the poster I
  7. chose. Yeah.
  8. A little background information about the poster.
  9. The artists is our fe weather bride cock.
  10. Title is Don't waste paper papers Essential pound of paper
  11. waste his pound of fuel waste.
  12. You can see that don't waste paper.
  13. Paper Essential is bold and red and underneath it again
  14. says a pad of paper wasted is a pound of
  15. fuel wasted.
  16. And the publisher of this blister was Central States Paper
  17. Trade Association, which was in the United States.
  18. It was published between the 1914 and the 1918s.
  19. And just looking at the image, you can see that
  20. there's a clear focal point of the poster is the
  21. largest trash can that is filled with different qualities of
  22. paper and behind the poster is like a darker moon
  23. is soldiers marching.
  24. You can see that along the border of the I
  25. would say above the title.
  26. Don't waste paper of your central an american flag that
  27. is in bright colors.
  28. Now going off onto analyzing the poster.
  29. I broke it up in different symbols that were very
  30. clear to me.
  31. The first thing I did was the trashcan filled with
  32. paper and the titles I said at one I said
  33. was paper representing the mistakes that were made.
  34. So during this time in war, the United States started
  35. to get involved into world war Germany actually Germany and
  36. many other countries were fighting in the war slash And
  37. the United States entered around April 1917 and everything changed.
  38. The soldiers that were fighting needed supplies and food.
  39. Yeah. And americans were put to the test of how
  40. far their lawyers who were reached and helping the war
  41. effort, which, and the way I saw this symbol was
  42. that the paper in the trash represents the impact systems
  43. had. And the message that was sending don't waste paper
  44. essential was showing that it didn't matter what your role
  45. was in the war, whether you're a soldier or assisted
  46. living through it, Your actions affected how we would do
  47. in the war, considering we're very limited to the resources.
  48. So during this time we established that we needed more
  49. supplies. So unfortunately the National Paper Trade Association was sent
  50. out was founded and they, there was a delay in
  51. the supplies of paper.
  52. So that is probably why the artists decided to create
  53. this poster during that time.
  54. Because it was essential that we, that the citizens did
  55. not waste anything at all, whether that was a piece
  56. of paper, okay or fuel because everything was essential during
  57. this time for in order for the United States to
  58. win. So that was one of the first symbols that
  59. I chose.
  60. Looking at the poster and the message, the meaning behind
  61. the message that was in bright letters on the poster.
  62. As for the second symbol, I decided to reflect behind
  63. trashcan. It was a very different mood than looking straight
  64. forward. Behind.
  65. It was a very dark mood that it was a
  66. little bit unclear and you can see the soldiers are
  67. marching like I said, and there was a mayor and
  68. flight that was wearing bright colors.
  69. So during the time of the war there was a
  70. lot of uncertainty and a lot of the citizens and
  71. soldiers didn't know if they would even be alive.
  72. The next step which can be very scary.
  73. And considering there was a lot of battles, the Germans
  74. actually bombed a american marine chip And it killed 128
  75. soldiers of our men.
  76. It was not an easy fight and that's why I
  77. think the artist wanted to show that behind to show
  78. that this is what happens when we waste supplies.
  79. This is what's happening behind the scenes up.
  80. We honestly don't know about.
  81. Mhm Okay.
  82. Now with those struggles, the United States was able to
  83. In July 1917 to create the war Industrial Board, which
  84. was an organization that was sent to organize and some
  85. production to the United States to support their efforts which
  86. helped Amos to fully winning the battle.
  87. Okay, now, if you noticed clearly that there is a
  88. lot of color in the american flag and I think
  89. the author did this on purpose.
  90. The artist, I just wanted to use the american flag
  91. as simple.
  92. Another symbol you could say for the audience that the
  93. american flag, even to this day is a representation of
  94. freedom and hope.
  95. And I think that's what he was trying to delay
  96. the message to that.
  97. Yes are yes, whatever we do impact the war and
  98. behind the scenes, there's a lot going on but we
  99. need to remember what we're fighting for and what we
  100. are representing and that there is hope through the tunnel.
  101. If we keep doing our part in doing what needs
  102. to be done, then we will be able to win
  103. this battle.
  104. And I think that was what the artist was aiming
  105. for with the american flag being so colorful in the
  106. background because yes, this was not an easy battle.
  107. And yes, there are people that did not go in
  108. the war, but we need to realize it didn't matter
  109. big or small.
  110. Whatever our role was, Everybody impacted the impacted how the
  111. United States did, and represented them, whether they win or
  112. loss. And we needed to be able to support each
  113. other through everything that was going on.
  114. And that is what I believe is the overall idea
  115. of this poster that was made by our Faymann Badcock
  116. and the message that he wanted to send to his
  117. audience and don't waste paper paper essential how to Yes,
  118. it was very straightforward, but had a way deeper meeting.
  119. So yes, So thank you.
