  1. All right.
  2. So let's talk about the two kinds of bullying that
  3. are really important for you to be able to understand
  4. before we get into the game to see if you
  5. really get those three R's a boy.
  6. So the 1st 1 is face to face.
  7. Now we see in this we see it sometimes in
  8. the hallway.
  9. Maybe somebody is getting into somebody space and really doing
  10. that to make them feel What?
  11. Why would somebody get in someone else's face to make
  12. them feel uncomfortable?
  13. Right, So they're using their physical size, they're bigger.
  14. Or maybe they just lost control and they are making
  15. that confrontation.
  16. They are.
  17. Instead of using the kind of skills that you're gonna
  18. have, they are just losing maybe that control or feeling
  19. that anger.
  20. And they are getting in that face of somebody and
  21. want to cause that kind of bullying to occur.
  22. Okay, so this is an easier way, I think, in
  23. easier former bowling to identify because the other one is
  24. behind the back.
  25. Now it's just is hurtful.
  26. But behind the back bullying can be something like a
  27. rumor. It could be something like something as simple as
  28. rolling the eyes.
  29. Okay. For instance, you might be reading.
  30. Ah, book.
  31. Right? And you get finished.
  32. That section that book and you've just read maybe a
  33. story that you really like.
  34. It's working.
  35. Oh, right.
  36. We all know that, and it makes us feel bad.
  37. Okay. And especially if somebody's doing it a lot.
  38. Know the words?
  39. There you say to yourself, they did that to hurt
  40. me, Or I saw that person do that roll their
  41. eyes at that other person with their arms crossed, and
  42. it was obvious that they were trying to make that
  43. other person feel bad.
  44. So what we're gonna do is we're gonna go through
  45. some examples here and the first couple I'll give you
  46. some clues on, and I'll give you some pictures, but
  47. we're going to be able to identify what it is
  48. that's occurring in terms of the tree types of bowling.
  49. Is it behind the back pulling or face to face
  50. bully? And I want you guys to be able to
  51. tell me the difference on, So let's get into it.
  52. All right.
  53. So the 1st 1 is this.
  54. We've got this.
  55. Excuse me.
  56. We got this kid.
  57. He's inquest is always going and flicking the year of
  58. the other kid in front of him.
  59. Now, you know this is something that can occur.
  60. Like in this situation here where maybe he's the new
  61. guy on the team and they're having fun.
  62. But then there is the kind where in this case,
  63. Bob is flicking the year of the kid in front
  64. of him.
  65. He does this all the time, right?
  66. And he's doing it, uh, to hurt them.
  67. So what do you guys say?
  68. Is this behind the back, Pulling our face to face?
  69. Yes, I agree.
  70. It's face to face.
  71. Now, the next one here.
  72. Okay, Jamie shoves Andy and and he goes to the
  73. ground. She tells him to let her cut into the
  74. kickball players line because Jamie has done this to Andy
  75. before. So basically, Jamie is continually going pushing Andy to
  76. the grand.
  77. She is saying, Andy, I'm going to take your place
  78. so that I can get in line.
  79. What you guys think is that face to face boy
  80. or behind the back?
  81. I agree that it is face to face Now, the
  82. next one here.
  83. Now, this is a good example Oh, there she goes
  84. again, Margaret whispers about Is she is so creepy and
  85. stupid. Let's be sure not to play with her at
  86. recess and that none of our friends let her sit
  87. with us at lunch.
  88. So what's going on here?
  89. Is that the face to face or behind the back?
  90. Yes, it's behind the back, and it's harder to recognize
  91. because, you know, there she goes again.
  92. Margarets whispers to Bonnie.
  93. She is so creepy and stupid.
  94. Let's be sure that the play were third.
  95. So the person that is being called creepy or whatever
  96. is is not aware that this has occurred.
  97. It's happening behind her back and so, But then the
  98. behaviors and the way that people are going to treat
  99. her are now affected.
  100. In other words, she walks by that table and they
  101. kind of said, Can't sit here, you know, or she's
  102. gonna pick up on that That vibe that says, I'm
  103. not welcome here or someone is, you know, using bullying
  104. or their bullying may, and I'm not sure what it
  105. is. And because of that element of not knowing who
  106. is saying what.
  107. It has a really negative effect because it makes you
  108. feel like you don't know who is your friend, and
  109. it's a really, really important thing to understand.
  110. And I think we all have had this happen to
  111. us where there's somebody that is purposely making us feel
  112. bad by making others, uh, feel, uh, or look to
  113. us and say, Hey, that did you see what happened
  114. when he fell on his space?
  115. Ah, he's so clumsy.
  116. There's all searching for examples, but somebody is passing on
  117. some kind of mean message that has made for meant
  118. to make you feel bad.
  119. Okay, now we've got a situation here where Natalie and
  120. MEREDITH or reading a story together when they finished.
  121. Now they looks at MEREDITH's, says that was a stupid
  122. story in a waste of time.
  123. What you guys think is that behind the back bully?
  124. Or is that face to face?
  125. I think it's kind of face to face.
  126. Yes, you're saying you know that story read.
  127. That was stupid.
  128. You know, I really don't care for it, and it's
  129. making her feel bad.
  130. All right, so now let's take a look at the
  131. rest of them, and I want us to discuss them
  132. So Jack says, Don't hang around, Peter.
  133. This new kid, that new kid.
  134. I heard that he got kicked out of his old
  135. school after his parents got divorced.
  136. Well, what do you guys sick Is that behind the
  137. back or face to face?
  138. I think that's definitely behind the back.
  139. And what is he doing here?
  140. What do you guys think?
  141. Do you think Jack is doing?
  142. Yeah, I think Jack is basically using gossip or a
  143. story or rumor to make this other person that is
  144. new. Uh, the bad guy were, you know, say, you
  145. know what?
  146. Let's let's make him Let's leave him out because he's
  147. new. And I'm gonna spread this rumor.
  148. And it's a hurtful thing.
  149. Not asked Sam to play checkers with him.
  150. Sam says, No, I don't want to play with him.
  151. Okay, so that asked and play checkers with him.
  152. Sam says, No, I don't want to play with you.
  153. Were you guys thinking six bullying?
  154. Well, I think that you're right.
  155. I think that, you know, Matt asked Sam to play
  156. checkers, and Sam says, no, I don't want to play
  157. with you.
  158. I think in this case that, um you know, that
  159. is just saying No, I don't want to play with
  160. you now.
  161. It's not necessarily gonna make uh, Sam feel happy, but
  162. I don't think that that was intended to her end.
  163. He just maybe didn't want to play checkers.
  164. So OK, Scott has missed catching a ball during a
  165. baseball game.
  166. My baby brother could have caught that.
  167. Yells Alexis from across the field.
  168. Alexis makes at least one remark like this just got
  169. every game Scott wishes it would stop.
  170. So let's take that apart a little bit.
  171. So Scott missed the ball.
  172. He didn't catch it.
  173. And this person is always saying, you know, my brother
  174. could have caught that.
  175. They're yelling at him from across the field.
  176. All right, so he wishes it would stop.
  177. What do you guys think?
  178. Behind the back, face to face?
  179. I think it's based to face.
  180. And I think that this is where the recognizing, refusing
  181. and reporting is so important.
  182. So we recognize this is happening every game.
  183. Okay, I obviously wanted to catch the ball.
  184. I just didn't have the ability in that moment to
  185. catch it.
  186. It happens.
  187. This person is always goading me What does that mean?
  188. Well, they're always making me feel worse than I need
  189. to. And so I recognize it.
  190. And I'm gonna refuse this.
  191. I'm gonna refuse to allow this to keep happening, so
  192. doing report it.
  193. So what do you guys sick?
  194. Should we report this, or is it something that maybe
  195. could be addressed by using our our skills?
  196. Teoh, just express how we feel and tell them what
  197. they want, what we want.
  198. So, hey, you know what?
  199. I'd like you to stop.
  200. And if you really want me to catch that the
  201. ball, then maybe you can help me practice, cause I'm
  202. not sure what I'm doing wrong.
  203. But you, you know, always yelling or or make fun
  204. of me for not catching the ball is not gonna
  205. help me and help our team.
  206. Right? So you do that and that's going to really
  207. throw that personality go.
  208. Whoa! You know, maybe I didn't realize that my comment
  209. was hurting his feelings.
  210. Maybe he's right.
  211. Maybe I should help right and said, These skills are
  212. so important to resolution.
  213. We'll just do one more Drum says, Let's invite Zach
  214. to play ball with us at the park.
  215. Then let's be their roller blading.
  216. Instead, we can have a good laugh when he shows
  217. up, Ready to play ball.
  218. So what you guys think behind the back pulling are
  219. face to face.
  220. Well, Zach is going to show up, right?
  221. And so what?
  222. He gets there.
  223. He's been given information that was meant to make him
  224. look bad.
  225. Right? So somebody drum organized a silly plan to basically
  226. make his friend show up and play the wrong sport.
  227. So guess what?
  228. You show up in that situation and you're ready to
  229. play ball and they got roller skates.
  230. You're gonna be eliminated.
  231. You're not gonna be allowed to hurt.
  232. You're not gonna be able to play that game with
  233. them. You're not gonna have the right equipment and to
  234. your good feel left out.
  235. That's really mean.
  236. So I mean something like that.
  237. You've recognized what's going on there, right?
  238. So we recognize that, Zack, you know, Hey, let's have
  239. Zach to play but say we're going to the park.
  240. But then let's actually be roller skate.
  241. But let's just like, tell him we're gonna play ball.
  242. So that's not physical rate.
  243. We're not.
  244. He's a physically bullying this this person.
  245. But he's orchestrating.
  246. Or, in other words, he's organizing an event to take
  247. place that is designed to hurt and and make that
  248. person feel left out.
  249. Do you see how that's just as hurtful, if not
  250. even more hurtful than that kind of bullying?
  251. That's face to face?
  252. So, guys, these are the type of skills, the things
  253. that are so important as we move forward and get
  254. older that we use those three R's.
  255. And as we move forward, it's important to understand the
  256. difference cheat, conflict and a fight right, because you're gonna
  257. have conflicts.
  258. But those are different than fights, and we're going to
  259. talk about that more next time.
  260. You guys have done a wonderful job.
  261. I hope you have a great week and I will
  262. see you next class.
  263. The by
