  1. How many men?
  2. Finova. Obata?
  3. Um, this my strategies project over my Dundee Elementary, sixth
  4. grade classroom.
  5. I had three sections with each section having about 22
  6. 2 23 students and there was pretty evenly split between
  7. boys and girls.
  8. I have the students, um, you know, going from gifted
  9. and talented educational way to students with learning disabilities.
  10. I had students with autism and a th dean, so
  11. there was definitely arrange in right classrooms.
  12. I mean, I hade, uh, the students meet several standards
  13. in this unit.
  14. I was to chain science on, and I was going
  15. over microorganisms with, um so one of the standards I
  16. have, we're structure and function and information processes.
  17. So there were some differences in the objectives to meet
  18. the standards.
  19. So, for example, one of my teams was an underachieving
  20. group where I had them partners all the way through
  21. for some activities, whereas the other classrooms would work independently,
  22. uh, during some activities, such as filling in graphic organizers.
  23. That'll show later.
  24. But I made sure to use inclusive strategies throughout the
  25. lessons about everyone was able to meet those standards.
  26. Um, and the objective that I was given them a
  27. way that I did this waas cooperative learning.
  28. Um, I had them act out, um, and become a
  29. cell. And they did this by working What?
  30. They're, uh, group toe be from Jin himself.
  31. Um, I also have them complete graphic organizer's together, um,
  32. that I show they're on about the cells.
  33. Oh, we completed it as a team with me, and
  34. then they would partner, drop and work with a partner
  35. to complete and compare the other one.
  36. So, for example, plant races animal.
  37. I use these graphic organizers.
  38. Like I said, I have over a plant fell one
  39. for an animal cell, and we used him over the
  40. person. The unit symbol time.
  41. So, um, the first created what they thought a cell
  42. of, like how it functioned.
  43. And then we worked on it together while reading to
  44. complete one.
  45. And then they partnered to complete the opposite, one that
  46. they didn't get.
  47. Um And then finally, I would have the complete a
  48. quiz where they would write the organelles functions.
  49. And then, um, the station teaching was super beneficial.
  50. My cooperating teacher helped.
  51. Like I said, I taught an implant cell.
  52. She taught animal cell.
  53. And then, um, we were able to have better discussions.
  54. More Q And the opportunities, um, with the students to
  55. become more engaged with the content, I use Cornell notes
  56. as I'm joined here on to go ahead and teach
  57. them about the organelles.
  58. Um, here, you see, I have a picture on the
  59. left and then on the right side, we have examples.
  60. Um, an extra information, but the students could write in
  61. tow, help them organize their information.
  62. Um, I have visuals throughout the unit.
  63. One of that images or videos.
  64. I made sure to bring it back.
  65. I want to reinforce that in the students.
  66. I am also had a lot of in kitchen opportunities.
  67. Um, so for the corporate of Maine, like I said,
  68. I had the students act out cell or, you know,
  69. functions of the body that that was I had them.
  70. Each volunteer will learn with organ awas to play that
  71. part. Um, and it really just got them up and
  72. moving and interested in what they were learning because they
  73. were able to actually engage with that physically, Um, they,
  74. uh we're able to choose what Argon el they wanted
  75. to do.
  76. They were able to choose their partner afterwards, when we
  77. were comparing the plant and animal cells, I made sure
  78. to let him do that because, um, you know, they
  79. were for the 1st 2 birds two and three, they
  80. were able to choose people who were going to help
  81. them. But team One, I was I have to pair
  82. them because that a lot of times I just proved
  83. wrong. They choose a friend that they're going to play
  84. with, So that was a little bit different with that
  85. team, that lower achieving group.
  86. Um, I have purposeful group in other groups.
  87. As for a station teaching, um, to make the teaching
  88. environment more positive, the station teaching with an opportunity for
  89. students to be open about questions and have discussions, and
  90. that wouldn't be possible if there was a Chester.
  91. And so are you from pretty consistently to be in
  92. a group together?
  93. Um, I have the cell diagram here that really engages
  94. students agreeable to be a bit creative with that color.
  95. It, um, color coded, uh, this normal students who?
  96. It was an overachiever.
  97. She put in a lot of information, but that is
  98. great. um, they were to label them, color them color,
  99. code it and write something.
  100. Tell them remember what that organ does.
  101. Um, what I said, I also have, um, that out,
  102. Uh, this cell And then also, I have a view
  103. game really encased on it.
  104. Uh, is like the game spoons when you have the
  105. match it, but they much the organ.
  106. I'll name the definition on and, um, be, uh, how
  107. it looked.
  108. Um, instead of parts, Um, those a great time for
  109. them to She was their group in player of fun
  110. came torn.
  111. The organ functions.
  112. Um, I had Carl reading during small groups, and also,
  113. I make sure to do the graduate of these model
  114. and every single loss and to sell that students were
  115. about to take out, uh, to take responsibility, were learning
  116. toward Zeon and complete Indeed, the information.
  117. Um, so the the way that I planned for instruction
  118. waas the pretest.
  119. I was a big one.
  120. I did a coop and they came, uh, created in
  121. the social it later on, uh, it guided me by
  122. telling me what students near what they didn't.
  123. So, for example, 95% knew what organism was but only
  124. 19% new Or guessed what I felt all those words.
  125. So all right.
  126. Did not focus on organism as much.
  127. I given the definition that gave me examples, actually, so
  128. they knew what it was.
  129. It was really well ingrained in their brain.
  130. Um, but so what?
  131. I gave them examples.
  132. I showed them visuals.
  133. I emphasized what it does and why it was important
  134. from this.
  135. I also created a quisling group where I have some
  136. students, um, check in with me after they created a
  137. quiz lit and checked in, You know, every so often
  138. to see that they were studying because we're like the
  139. very low roof that needed extra study time on DDE.
  140. That makes such a difference.
  141. This was one of the students.
  142. He got that 83 when he had consistently been gaining
  143. ones and zeroes here.
  144. I show what he missed in the 1st 1 with
  145. the black axes.
  146. And then the red marks are working this this time.
  147. So huge difference.
  148. Um, because of that extra study time, um, I also
  149. have done, huh?
  150. The the quiz one to also help me with planning
  151. through the instruction.
  152. Um, the quiz one that I did with, um showed
  153. the growth of this student.
  154. Um, but it also showed me where to go.
  155. I want to be teach.
  156. So they didn't know chlorophyll.
  157. That was a completely missed question on Quiz one.
  158. And, um, because of that, I know that they need
  159. to go back, bring back the plant cell and re
  160. teach that.
  161. All right, Um, I also used observations as a tool
  162. to ah, fast.
  163. Um, you know, having asking them questions, you haven't turned
  164. talking less.
  165. And then all the conversations really helped me understand whether
  166. we're at and plan on what was going to focus
  167. on in the next one.
  168. The creative cell they created that solved before I have
  169. them actually learned the cells and do this all diagram.
  170. I'm just It was a fun interactive by to see
  171. what they know about cells.
  172. Um, the way that I measured their progress, of course,
  173. of the pretest I started on the average for my
  174. hire. Children got 57 my little work out of 50.
  175. I wasn't able to do somebody so comparative to the
  176. first quiz.
  177. The higher treating your butt in 82 in the longer
  178. Chief, you got a 72 so immense growth on the
  179. shell that they were gaining information and I showed me
  180. that they were progressing.
  181. Um, the graphic organizer's showed growth as well.
  182. The plant and animal cells that were turned in, um,
  183. after we did the small groups and then, uh, the
  184. we're going to also felt one of those in on
  185. their quizzes.
  186. When I got close to out on abortion, I don't
  187. get out because of the shortened school year.
  188. Um also observations during, um, my noting I took observations
  189. during note taking, So I walked around and ask questions
  190. and the hats didn't turn talk and left him in
  191. a sad open discussions constantly toe.
  192. See what?
  193. Whether thinking waas Um and a lot of them challenged
  194. me with your thinking, but it was great because it
  195. really opened up that conversation for a lot of students.
  196. Um, and also the review game.
  197. And they're, uh that helped me or that was going
  198. to help me, Steve, where the students were by keeping
  199. track of which words were commonly missed.
  200. Unfortunate. I didn't get to do this either, but it
  201. would have been a great way to see where they
  202. were. This data chart here, this is Excel was their
  203. pre test.
  204. Um, and it just showed, like, the average so across
  205. waas But each student how they did and then down
  206. it was the percentage of of right answers for question.
  207. So I knew which ones to focus on, um, the
  208. way that I monitored and engage them waas Guys, those
  209. graphic organized.
  210. They were awesome.
  211. Especially with an option of concept like microorganisms.
  212. Um, I provided the graphic organizing things and the lab
  213. sheets and the rubric and all of the vocabulary.
  214. You know, up front on night, let them know that
  215. that was what I was going to be on the
  216. summit of assessment.
  217. Um, it was all just living up to that's emitted.
  218. I gave them feedback for all of this strategies.
  219. Um, the graphic organizers returned in, graded returned, so as
  220. well, it's a quiz is they were grated, kept track
  221. of their They're great.
  222. And then I turned it on.
  223. You turn it back into them.
  224. So that way they had something to study with.
  225. Um, one of the assessment tools that I had given
  226. them was a rubric for the lab.
  227. I, uh, made sure they knew what it was that
  228. they were gonna do.
  229. A band.
  230. Um, I didn't get to finish that.
  231. Unfortunately, it was something that was going to girl mold
  232. over spring break and then come back and talk about
  233. it afterward.
  234. Um, I have students engaging in pure assessing by talking
  235. to each other with the plan on the cell organizer.
  236. Will they compare them and also with their lab right
  237. up? I was gonna happen, partner up, read it, give
  238. each other feedback before coming and checking in with me
  239. to make sure that they had all of the points
  240. on the rubric before they submitted it.
  241. Um, I also, um you know, Chuck, there's progress all
  242. the time.
  243. I have this sheet here, which I would do before
  244. submitted into infinite Compass, where they would this pre test
  245. grade shows where they were up, and then I hot,
  246. you know, whether or not they did it.
  247. I have the people that were on my clothesline group,
  248. and then that was too.
  249. So it definitely shows that progress.
  250. I have blank spaces for the upcoming assessments that I
  251. was going to do and didn't have a chance to.
  252. Um But you see there that I did track it
  253. on my down, but put it into the bin.
  254. In campus, I used Cornell notes to teach the students,
  255. as I mentioned before.
  256. Sorry. This is acting up.
  257. Um, according to the research, it master help students knowledge
  258. and masses of information.
  259. It keeps them organized and helps them to make connections
  260. with that information.
  261. So I think that's definitely true.
  262. Here. I have my Cornell no example.
  263. The way that they wrote it in there, no.
