  1. Hey there.
  2. So these notes are gonna be on capitalization.
  3. Um, there's also a notes document right below.
  4. Make sure you watch the videos.
  5. That way you can get the secret words that will
  6. allow you to press on further.
  7. So first, let's talk about our general stuff.
  8. I in the beginning of sentences.
  9. Biggest pet peeve of being an English teacher, um, is
  10. when people don't capitalize.
  11. The word I it's so simple to dio, right?
  12. And it tze just something you needed So we should
  13. always capitalize the board I even if it is being
  14. used in a contraction like I'm instead of I am
  15. or I've instead of I have, um if it's we're
  16. using the word, I should be capitalized.
  17. We're also going to capitalize the beginnings of sentences so
  18. you'll notice that I have you is capitalized on the
  19. sentence. You should always capitalize the beginning of sentences.
  20. Now let's move on the proper words specifically proper Now
  21. NHS and proper adjectives, which always need to be capitalized
  22. proper, announced our gen are the names of specific downs.
  23. Thes might be a specific people like Rihanna, Matthew Mercer,
  24. but not singer or actor, because that's not a specific
  25. person. It's a type of person into class of person,
  26. and that's called a common now, when it's not a
  27. specific one.
  28. So specific places like Walmart and Lancaster, but not store
  29. or high school cities, countries, time, periods and events all
  30. get capitalized.
  31. So Lanchester, the city gets capitalized.
  32. Argentina. The country gets capitalized.
  33. Even Becky's birthday party gets capitalized.
  34. Even though that's not a big event like the Civil
  35. War or the Revolutionary War or the Great Depression, though
  36. we'll get capitalized, too.
  37. But even if it's a local event or a small
  38. event, if it's an event, it gets capitalized.
  39. Days, months and holidays get capitalized.
  40. So Tuesday, September Halloween, all of those get capitalized and
  41. specific items get capitalized so Pepsi gets capitalized and ticktock
  42. gets capitalized, but not soda or app.
  43. Let's take a look at proper adjectives, either ones that
  44. are derived from proper announce.
  45. That means they come from proper announced the two big
  46. ones. We want to focus on our nationalities and languages,
  47. so nationalities are where people are front.
  48. You might say that you are an American.
  49. Um, that should be Hoesen X, H o s, a
  50. N is also a nationality.
  51. It's not probably not one more common with, um, it's
  52. a nationality of a group of people in the country
  53. of South Africa.
  54. So even groups of people, um, are still capitalized.
  55. Um, like that languages are also capitalized.
  56. So when you're talking about English class English should always
  57. be capitalized because it's a specific type of language.
  58. English, French are also nationalities.
  59. But, um, Shona and Mandarin Shona is a language from
  60. Zimbabwe, and Mandarin is one of the most spoken languages
  61. in China.
  62. Um, you wouldn't, um Shona does.
  63. Abdullah's a nationality, too, but you wouldn't say that somebody
  64. is Mandarin.
  65. That not really how that works.
  66. Mandarin is just a language, and it is still capitalized.
  67. Now we're talking about proper announce proper adjectives.
  68. Let's go on to titles.
  69. So unless the words and titles air capitalized not articles
  70. and conjunctions, though, unless they're the first word.
  71. So Hamilton capitalized Critical role capitalized, Critical and Roll The
  72. Lord of the Rings.
  73. This one starts with an article.
  74. We'll go into that in a second.
  75. So the article the first article is capital.
  76. The first the is capital Lord is capital, but off
  77. and the which are articles are not capitalized.
  78. Then rings is capitalized again.
  79. Going toe articles real quick.
  80. Uh, these air, uh, words that, um these air some
  81. words that introduce now.
  82. So the a and of all of these words function
  83. to introduce a specific now also introducing you to the
  84. next assignment.
  85. The password for this video is everyone Again.
  86. The password for this video is everyone.
  87. I'll give you a moment to write that down.
  88. Excellent. So moving on to conjunctions injunctions are words that
  89. connect clauses, phrases, predicates and lists were not.
  90. We aren't going to heavily into all of those words
  91. Now those are all things that were going toe learn
  92. about later in the nine weeks and in the semester,
  93. Um, so but their words that connect other things You've
  94. probably seen this acronym of Fanboys before.
  95. So the main conjunctions we need to know about right
  96. now are four and nor but or yet so the
  97. big ones, really, And but or and so the big
  98. ones that we use.
  99. So we talked now about articles and conjunctions and titles.
  100. So today we talked about how you should always capitalize,
  101. I how you should always capitalize the beginning of your
  102. sentence. You know, we talked about what a common noun
  103. in a proper noun is and how we should always
  104. capitalized proper downs.
  105. We talked about what proper adjectives are and how they
  106. come from proper napkins we talked about and how those
  107. should always be capitalized.
  108. We talked about how the new capitalization inside of titles
  109. as well we went over the secret word there.
  110. We went over with an article and a conjunction is,
  111. um and so we've really gone over everything we need
  112. to do with Capitalization.
  113. That's it for this video.
  114. I'll see you in the next one and until them
  115. keep learning.
