Ancient Egyptians Pyramids
Transcript of Ancient Egyptians Pyramids
Have you ever wondered what pyramids and wheat cakes have to do with each other? Or even a hippo with a limestone block?
Materials Used to Build
Most of the pyramids were built out of limestone blocks, although one block of limestone almost equals the weight of a hippo. All of the limestone in the Giza Pyramid stacked up into stairs would reach the moon.
The Types of Pyramids
There are 80 pyramids that Egyptians built. It takes 100,000 workers to build one, the three best ones were built for the Pharaoh Khufu. The great Pyramid of Giza, Pyramid of Khafra, Pyramid of Menkaura, Pyramid of Sahura, Pyramid of Neferirkara, Pyramid of Teti, Bent Pyramid, Red Pyramid, Medium Pyramid, Pyramid of Unas, Step Pyramid, Pyramid of Userkaf, and Black Pyramid were pyramids built for special pharaohs.
The type of pyramids called Mastaba were built of mud bricks and the Step Pyramid had six stages.
The Great Pyramid of Giza
The great Pyramid of Giza was built in 2528 B.C. for the Pharaoh Khufu, this pyramid is taller than the Arc De Triomphie, in Paris; Statue of Liberty, New York; and St. Paul's cathedral, London. It was built out of 2,300,000 bricks of limestone (2,300,000 hippos). The three small pyramids are for Khufu's main wives.
When and for what pyramids were built
The word pyramid comes from the Greek word "pyramis", which means wheat cake. So, the pointy buildings of Egypt reminded the Greeks of the word "pyramis".
The pyramids were built in the Old Kingdom until the Middle Kingdom. The first pharaoh to have a pyramid tomb was Djoser, it took 20 years to build. Pyramids were built to protect the pharaohs' tombs, so they could go to the after life (Egyptians' belief).
Inside a Pyramid
Inside the pyramid, the queen's chamber stays below the pyramid, while the pharaoh's one stays in the middle. Although, there were fake passages to deceive robbers, but all pyramids were robbed at 1,000 B.C.E.
All this information is about pyramids. In our opinion, it would be very hard to carry a block of limestone, imagine carrying a hippo! We hope this text blew your mind!
