Contents
Automatic wireless meter reading system is designed and developed for substations to monitor different meter readings automatically and safely in a substation by means of a simple embedded device using Zigbee communication.

Electrical parameters like RMS voltage, RMS current, power factor, frequency, time period, energy, KVA, KW can be found out by porting power-meter to any device or line.

Digital IC ADE7753

The heart of this device is the digital IC ADE 7753.

ADE 7753 performs functions like data processing, analog to digital converter, calculation & calibration.

Microcontroller PIC 16F877 controls the operation of digital IC. So microcontroller acts in master mode & ADE 7753 in slave mode.

Only after receiving the clock generated by microcontroller the input sensed by the voltage, current & period sensors are accepted into the IC.

WHY AUTOMATIC
WIRELESS METER
READING?

In the existing system, the person on duty must log the reading of different meters manually at an interval of an hour or so. This is a tedious task especially in a large substation where there are hundreds of meters and the readings may contain human errors.

The proposed system eliminates the human factor and thus becomes accurate and efficient. The meter readings are taken simultaneously, so there is not time gap between readings. The Automatic Wireless Meter Reading system reduces the work load on the human operator.

Wireless Meter Reading using PIC was designed and tested, it is an extremely valuable project.

Wireless Meter Reading is not complicated, it can be implemented very easily.

This system is very accurate and less cost compared to the existing system and it can be implemented for domestic purpose as well as industrial purpose also.

The future expansion of power analyzer is power quality analyzer which helps to locate, predict, prevent and trouble shoot in power distribution system.
ZigBee uses the 802.15.4 standard as a baseline and adds additional routing and networking functionality.
802.15.4 is a standard for wireless communication put out by the IEEE.
The 802.15.4 standard specifies that communication should occur in 5 MHz channels ranging from 2.405 to 2.480 GHz.
