Transcript of Bill Gates displays common good and equality

Equality
Bill Gates displays equality because he does not favor his own race. He gives equal opportunities to people that need it most.
The Gates Millennium Scholarship Program will choose 1,000 "extraordinary young people" to receive a scholarship to use at any college or university. This foundation believes that if we plan to improve our country, we also need to improve the education of the people in it. The more educated we are as a country, the better off we will be.
Gatesfoundation.org says 2.5 billion people lack adequate sanitation facilities. Plus, another 21 billion that do not get rid of waste correctly. Because of this, approximately 70,000 child deaths alone occur each year. In the section "the oppurtunity" it says not only will proper sanitation help us save lives and improve health, it can also help the economy.
Amount of Grants Given
"The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation gives more grants in a year than the next 18 largest grant makers combined," says nonprofitquarterly.com
One specific scholarship Gates funds is the Gates Cambridge Scholarship.
Bill Gates displays common good and equality
Scholarships.org says,"The Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS) program, funded by a grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, was established in 1999 to provide outstanding African American, American Indian/ Alaska Native*, Asian Pacific Islander American**, and Hispanic American students with an opportunity to complete and undergraduate college education in any discipline areas of interest."

This website also shows that Bill Gates displays the core democratic value of common good because he is providing individuals with opportunities that will in turn benefit our country.
This is a picture from gatesfoundation.org of a new sanitation system in Kenya.
This demonstrates common good because Gates isn't only spending money on himself, he is spending his money to help other people.
Gatescambridge.org says,"The Gates Cambridge Scholarships are one of the most prestigious international scholarships in the world."
This shows that Gates wants to help people succeed as long as they put effort in themselves. He wants everyone to have the opportunity.
In the section "Water, Sanitation and Hygiene" Wikipedia says the sanitation section of the foundation focuses on helping developing countries like Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. The foundation is said to have spent more that $265 million on water and sanitation over the last five years.
This shows common good and equality because Gates is helping to ensure other countries than his own are taken care of.
Summary
I believe that Bill Gates shows Common good and Equality because of his charity foundation. I think better education is important so that our world can continue to improve and everyone gets equal opportunities. Better sanitation is important because it will help to decrease deaths and it is not fair for people to have to live in the conditions without proper sanitation.
