Anabolic
Steroids Steroids are used to build up body mass for sports or for medical research. They can increase the speed of which physical traits grow. It can be used to speed the body so it enters puberty faster than usual in males. They are also used for medical reasons, such as fighting cancer and other diseases that deteriorate body tissue. Steroids can be used for good medical reasons, but many people find bad reasons to use them; sports, body building, selling illegal for money. They also increase the bodies testosterone levels. Common Uses For Steroids The methods of making steroids were in use before it was actually studied all the way. It is now possible to artificially create steroids. Many scientists have added their tiny bit on how steroids are made today, each doing certain tests upon them. In many countries where it is banned, it is illegally created for use on the Black Market. In the 1940's the Soviet Union started testing with steroids to increase their Olympic athlete's scores. Once the Soviet Union performed well, the U.S. made their own copy of the synthetic hormone for burn victims and the elderly, to help them recuperate faster. Creating The Steroid Synthetic Testosterone Natural Testosterone This is a connection between Biology and Chemistry for one main reason. Which is, testosterone is a natural hormone of the body, and is used for medical research and rehabilitating injured people. Using Chemistry scientists have created synthetic Testosterone, to simulate the real hormone. It also ties in to show the chemical make-up of the two very similar compounds previously mentioned, though only one of them is natural. In short, we are creating fake testosterone to mimic to the real hormone, that is how they connect. The Connection What they are used for, what they are,
and what they are made of. (Anabolic-Androgen Steroids) "Anabolic Steroid." Wikipedia. Wikimedia Foundation, 18 Sept. 2012. Web. 21 Sept. 2012.
