Silesian Campaign Immediately after Charles VI's death,
New King Frederick II of Prussia took advantage of the opportunity and seized Silesia. 1741 Prussia, with Bavaria advanced farther into Austria and soon later got the support of the French Army. The powers of Europe prepared to use the opportunity to acquire the Hasburg possessions and diminish their power. Under a commander directing the Austrian and Hungarian forces, the combined army was able to push the opposing armies away gaining some ground back Charles of Bavaria had crowned himself King. The French conquered Prague Austria had gained the support of Hungary. Austria was losing all the land gained in the previous years. Austria still did not take back Prague. Battle of Chotusitz.
Fought in Bohemia
One of the bloodiest battles.
The Prussian army won 1743-1744 Great Britain entered the War on the side of Austria and helped push out the invaders. Netherlands joins Austria, Hungary, and Great Britain.
Saxony and Sardinia change their alliance and join Austria. Spain joins France and Prussia. Prussia plans to invade Britain but can't because of storms. King Louis XV becomes very ill and the French army weakens. Prince Charles returns with an enormous army and won Prague back by pushing Prussia out. 1745 3 major battles
1st battle: Prussia beat the Austrians and the Saxons.
2nd battle: Prussia beat the Austrians at the border.
3rd battle: Austria lost to the French and the Netherlands was lost. Frederick was gaining confidence and so he launched another Austrian campaign. The army lead by Prince Charles was defeated two more times. What do you think Austria will respond with? Treaty Treaty of Aix-la-Capelle Austria handed Silesia over to Prussia Maria Theresa gave land to Prussia to stop them from supporting Prussia. Outcome: The war was terrible for Austria and the Netherlands as they lost substantial territory. The Hasburg dynasty was weakened. France had to return land to Britain and the Dutch. Historical Significance Maria Theresa was the first female in role of Holy Roman Empress. The war left Austria and France very weak and so they formed a new diplomatic alliance against Prussia and Britain. This war showed the world how strong a nation Prussia was.
