Different Types of Sentence Structure
CCRS Standard:
Choose among simple, compound, and compound-complex sentences to signal differing relationships among ideas.
Compound Sentences
A compound sentence is a sentence that contains two or more simple sentences joined by a comma and a coordinating conjunction or by a semicolon.
Sentence Strip Activity
Now, working as a group, take the sentence strips and create a compound sentence using a comma and a coordinating conjunction.
Sentence Structure Basics Activity

Open you ISN and complete
Part One: Writing Compound
Sentences.
Several of you will write your original sentences on the Promethean.
Complex Sentence
A complex sentence is a sentence that has an independent clause and one or more dependent clauses.
Coordinating Conjunctions
FOR
AND
NOR
BUT
OR
FAN BOYS
YET
SO
Sentence Pattern #1
IC + Comma + CNJ + IC= CMPD SENT.

IC + SEMICOLON + IC= CMPD SENT.
Sentence Strip Activity
Now, remove the comma and the conjunction and replace them with a semicolon.
Pattern
DC + Comma+ IC=Complex
IC + DC = Complex
Sentence Strip Activity
In your groups, take the sentence strips and move them around to form a complex sentence using the following pattern:

Next, take the sentence strips and move them around to form a different complex sentence using the following pattern:
