Transcript of Hitler

Hitler had 5 siblings but only one lived over the age of six (his sister, Paul)

Adolf's father, Alois, could provide a good life for his family but he was aggressive and mistreated Adolf

His mother, Klara, was the opposite, but since she was a women she could not stop the abuse
World War I
~ a paramilitary organization

*members: war veterans banded together to fight communists who were taking over Germany and they were successful

* afterwords, these members joined together to form the "brown-shirts"/Nazi's parties armies
When World War I started, Hitlers passion towards foreigners/outsiders intensified, leading him to join the army

His rank eventually rose to Lance Corporal, but after being injured he had to leave the army. While he was recovering, there were communist-inspired uprisings against the German government

These uprisings were led by Communists and Jews, this motivated Hitler and his hate for these groups of people

German Worker's Party
~Hitler joins a military intelligence unit after the war in Munich called "Press and Propaganda Department of Group Command IV of the Reichswehr"

~ Hitler was born on April 20, 1889 in
Braunau Am Inn, Austria

~ when he was very young, around the
age of 3, his family moved to Germany

~ He started attending school at the age of six, going straight into the first grade

Mein Kampf
~ Hitler started creating the first volume of his book during the 8 months he spent in prison

~ (Hitler served time because he was accused of treason after a revolt he led)

-the second volume was written a few years later.

-Although Mein Kampf was mostly an autobiography, it also targeted groups of people (mostly Jews and communists)

Rise to Power
~ Hitler ran for president in 1932
~ run-off election; Hitler vs. Paul von Hindenburg
-Hitler lost, so he became chancellor of a coalition
-in 1934, Hindenburg died
therefore Hitler became dictator
~ most people that supported the Nazi's were poor
~ Hitler did not get much financial support from businesses
~ most industrial workers were not supportive of the Nazi party
Creation of the Nazi Dictatorship (Phase 1)
- Nazi's had 288 members in the Reichstag, which gave them an advantage.

-Hitler:given authority of the cabinet

-Once Hitler was given all this power, he worked to take away all other groups powers and in 1933 he made the Nazi Party the only legal party

-Then, Hitler begun going after Jews by depriving them of jobs and boycotting their shops
Creation of the Nazi Dictatorship (Phase 2)
Nuremberg Laws: said that even if you had one Jewish grandparent you were considered Jewish. (this affected around 500,000 Jews and over 2 million Germans)
These laws also made it so Jews were no longer able to marry anyone who wasnt Jewish and took citizenship away from them.
Creation of Nazi Dictatorship (Phase 3)
-1935-1939; a time summarized by violence

-Crystal Night (1938) occured when a Jew killed a German, this group was formed as a mob of violence as revenge

- Crystal Night got it's name from the broken glass and other destruction caused by these Germans towards Jews
World War II (1939-1945)
Hitler's quest to take over control of all of Europe.
Begun by ivading Poland

after 6 years Hitler spent attempting to conquer all of Europe, the Germans were finally defeated by the Allies in 1945

World War II resulted in 55 million deaths

Soon after defeat, on April 30, 1945, Hitler commited suicide.
