“Personal Growth Plans and Deliberate Practice”

Within iObservation, teachers are able to take control of their own learning and growth by developing individualized Professional Growth Plans (PGP).

Research shows that in order for professional development to be effective, it should be a deliberate process that occurs within the context of teachers' daily activities in the classroom environment and connects back to student learning.

Deliberate practice is growth over time, including feedback, with the specific goal of improving performance.
Professional Learning Standards
GOALS:
Teachers will determine what student, educator, and school/district data is available to guide the planning of their growth plan and professional learning. Teachers will use data to guide planning.

Teachers will understand how to take charge of their professional development at their own pace and schedule, using resources within the iObservation tool.
Teachers will identify personal strengths and challenges using the growth planning tools for the purpose of deliberately deepening their practice and behaviors to positively effect student achievement.

iObservation: PGP
iObservation guides teachers through designing a growth plan that is realistic, focused, and measurable using
SMART goals
(Specific & Strategic, Measurable, Attainable, Results-Based, and Time-Bound).

The system connects data from multiple sources:
self-assessment,
SGOs,
classroom observation
student learning,
peer-coaching, and
achievement projects.

Teachers use this data to inform their deliberate practice planning and analysis; selection of domain one elements.
iObservation allows teachers to assess their performance on a specific, targeted instructional strategy, engage in deliberate practice with focused implementation of that strategy, and collect formative student achievement data directly related to their implementation of that strategy.

COMMUNICATION
iObservation is a forum for leaders and teachers to participate and engage
as members of a collegial community, helping themselves and each other improve in their professional practice to increase student achievement.

iObservation offers opportunities for:
private one-on-one conversations,
group discussion across the district/school,
or small groups of teachers.

iObservation allows teachers in a grade level/department to work together:
co-creating common assessments,
getting feedback around a new lesson plan,
identifying solutions to common challenges,
and supporting each other to help every student learn.

With Your Table-mates:
