Madagascar, officially the Republic of Madagascar is part of Africa's continent, but got isolated from Africa for over 150 million years. Antananarivo is the capital city of Madagascar, and it is also the largest city on the island. This island lies in the Indian Ocean, east of Mozambique. Madagascar's Population and Life Expectancy! Madagascar's land area is about 581,540 sq km or somewhat less than twice the size of Arizona. Compared to Canada, there's 9,403,460 sq km difference! 18 TIMES! 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0 +/- = 2 2 Now, to Madagascar's population which is 22,585,517 people! On average that is like, 35.62 people/km . That is way too high, compared to Canada's population density which is, 3.75 people/km . How the UN ranks Madagascar, and why? Madagascar is ranked 151 out of 187 countries. It is ranked like that for many reasons and one of the reasons is.... is.......it's literacy rate! Madagascar's literacy rate is 65%! That's the percent for people who are 15 and over who can read and write! From that fact I can infer that there might not be as much schools as there are in other countries, or people cannot afford the money to get educated. Another reason why the UN ranked Madagascar 151, is for their birth, death, and fertility rate. Madagascar's birth rate in 2012 was 37.13 births during a year/1,000 people, although when you look at Canada it's way less with 10.28 births during a year/1,000 people. Now, that's a big difference, Madagascar Canada but that doesn't mean that, if you have a low birth rate it is good because, underpopulation is a problem where the economy is set up for growth. Nor than having a high birth rate because, overpopulation is killing the environment through pollution and destruction of resources we depend on for survival, such as our atmosphere, clean air, water, good farming land, healthy ocean fish, and trees. In contrast of birth rate is death rate, and surprisingly Madagascar's death rate is not that different from Canada's death rate. In fact there's only 0.48% of deaths different since Madagascar's death rate is 7.61 deaths/1,000 population, while Canada's is 8.09 deaths/1,000 population. We move on to Madagascar's fertility rate. Having a high fertility rate can be dangerous... and that is one of the reasons of what Madagascar is suffering from! The island has a total fertility rate of 4.96 children/woman in her life time, while Canada has a rate of 1.59 children/woman, and has been slowly rising since 2000. I think that a high fertility rate is dangerous because, having too many children would cause a rise of the earth's population, leading to not having enough resources to support the people or the other life forms, and if we stay at this fertility rate, soon the world would be around 22 billion people on year 2100. If you were a boy living in Madagascar, you would have a life expectancy of 61.97 years. However if you were a girl be happy because you would live about 5 years longer on average! Answer: Though in Canada, the average for boy and girl is a really small difference, and in the end the life expectancy here is 81.48 years. Doubling Time of Madagascar? The "doubling time" of the population for Madagascar is approximately 22 years, while Canada's 77.7 years! If you were to look at the infant mortality rate of this island, it would be about 50.09 deaths/1,000 people per year. Whereas, Canada's rate is 4.85 deaths/1,000 people per year. I can indicate from those facts that, the level of health in Madagascar is not as high and clean as it is in Canada. Now that we know the birth and death rate of Madagascar, the population growth rate is 2.952% Computer :) GDP? https://www.google.ca/webhp?sourceid=toolbar-instant&tbib=1&hl=en&ion=1&qscrl=1&rlz=1T4ADRA_enCA360CA361#hl=en&tbo=d&qscrl=1&rlz=1T4ADRA_enCA360CA361&biw=1366&bih=566&sclient=psy-ab&q=about%20madagascar&oq=&gs_l=&pbx=1&fp=c75b7b7637241c1e&ion=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_cp.r_qf.&bvm=bv.41642243,d.dmQWe go to the gross domestic product of this island. Now the GDP means, the measure of the value of the goods that are produced in one year by a specific country, and Madagascar's GDP is $9.95 billion, however Canada's GDP is $1.74 trillion!

The annual per capita income for a person living in Madagascar is, $900/per year, but Canada's per capita income is, $41,000/person/year. Again, huge difference between the two. The unemployment rate for Madagascar is BETTER than Canada! With a percentage of 3.80, Madagascar beats Canada percentage;7.10. Then again you take in consideration Madagascar's per capita income, and you understand why it beats Canada with their unemployment rate. Canada's poverty rate is 9.4% and should be less in my opinion, but when it comes to Madagascar's poverty rate there is no way you could save 50% of the population! Interesting Facts! The languages spoken in Madagascar are French (official), Malagasy (official), and English. The main religions are, indigenous beliefs 52%, Christian 41%, Muslim 7% The Physicians density is,
0.161 physicians/1,000 population The hospital bed density is,
0.3 beds/1,000 population By now I hope you learned the basics of the economy, and the demographics of Madagascar! Thanks for your listening! H.N. http://www.indexmundi.com/canada/population_below_poverty_line.html
