SERIOUS GAMES
Serious Games are intentionally designed to have a purposeful
impact
on the players' lives
beyond the self-contained aim
of the game itself.

Projects were developed in collaborative teams consisting of:
MIT faculty and postdoctoral researchers
Game industry veterans on the Game Lab’s development staff
MIT graduate and undergraduate students
Interns from Rhode Island School of Design, Berklee College of Music, Wellesley College, Harvard University, Northeastern University, Boston University, Massachusetts College of Art and Design, Brown University
The MIT Game Lab is also the US base of the Singapore-MIT GAMBIT Game Lab initiative.
Game concepts are based on the research of:
MIT faculty and postdoctoral associates
Singapore faculty associated with the Singapore-MIT GAMBIT Game Lab

Other projects were developed with research and experimental tools from:
The game industry
Boston’s Museum of Science

Analyse it based on the SGDA Framework.
Are there any conflicts in the game system's coherence (purpose)?

You can change

element of the game system.
What would you change?
What
impact
could your improvement have on what target group?

Serious Games sind intentional designte Spielräume, die einem
pädagogischen Zweck folgen
und auf
Wirkung
- über das Spielerlebnis hinaus - abzielen.

#1: The designers’
good intentions

justify incoherence and insufficiencies in their design.
THE PROBLEM:
#3: Most studies on impacts of serious games
do not examine

how the
purpose
is conveyed in the game design.
#2: Serious game assessment tools
do not reflect
on how the
purpose
is related within the game design (Winn 2007, Annetta & Bronack 2011, Sanchez 2011).
Development of a
framework
for
analyzing
a game’s
formal conceptual design
, its elements, and their relation to each other based on the game’s purpose.
