The House on
Street Soundtrack

Song #4: Bye Bye
This song is meant for anyone who has lost someone very special to them. In the book, it was Esperanza's grandfather. Her father was crushed by the news of his death. This is a funeralistic song in honor of his death.
Song #1: Mockingbird
I chose this as my first song because Eminem talks about disappointment with parents (himself being the one of the parents). This correlates with the first vignette "The House on Mango Street". She talks about how they never moved to the house they dreamed of & she was disappointed whenever she had to point out her previous homes when asked.

Song #2: Is Anybody Out There?
This song correlates with "Boys & Girls". It talks about how people are socially in need. They want friends, but either don't have confidence or a way to approach someone. In "Boys & Girls", Esperanza has to face making friends. She says, "Someday I will have a best friend all my own."
By: K'NAAN feat. Nelly Furtado
Song #5: Dementia
"Born Bad" is about Esperanza regretting her actions the day her aunt died. She didn't realized that she had died right in front of her. This song talks about a serious disease called Dementia (which lead singer in Owl City suffers from). He says he regrets letting his disease drive him crazy.
Song #6: Young, Wild & Free
This is when Esperanza was watching Sire & his girlfriend doing it is whatever they did together in "Sire". This song talks about doing whatever you wanna do & not caring who's watching you. Which is exactly what Sire & his girlfriend did.
Song #7: Miss Independent
This song is perfect for the way Sally is described. Esperanza describes her as this girl that has everything she wants. In this song, Ne-Yo does the same thing; except for he does it from a guy's perspective.
Song #8: Holy Grail
In "Minerva Writes Poems" it talks about not only Minerva writing poems, but her struggles with her husband. It says that everytime she'll kick him out, then let him back in. In this song, Justin says alot that he doesn't why loves this woman so much. They both just do.
Song #9: Show Goes On
This song talks about how you go through hardships, but you keep going. No matter what your past was, you keep going. The same for Esperanza. She's leaving people behind in Mango Street because she moves on with her life.
Song #10: Coming Home
This is about her return to Mango Street. This song is all about coming back to your origin, you're home. She also has to keep her promise to the elderly women that moved into Mango Street.

Song #3:How Do You Sleep?
In "Marin", Marin talks about her husband in Puerto Rico & mentions the letters he wrote her. This song talks about missing someone. It also briefly mentions a letter that was written to him.
