Transcript of Thanksgiving!
Out of them shall come songs of thanksgiving,
and the voices of those who celebrate.
I will multiply them, and they shall not be few;
I will make them honored, and they shall not be small.
A simple THANK YOU
Thanksgiving is simply just saying thanks for our well being in this world. Unlike many other sufferers, all of us live in a happy and healthy environment with more than just basic needs. We have education, money, food and so much more. We believe that it is important for everyone of us to cherish these gifts that God has so kindly provided us with. For example, thank your mother and father. Without them, you wouldn't be on Earth today. Thank your friends around you, who admire you for who you are and accept your personality without judging. Thank your teachers, because, believe it or not, they are your guardian angels helping you to rise as good people and become remembered around the world when time has overcome. Thank the simple nature around you, granting you life in the form of oxygen. A simple thank you everyday can change everything.
Let us Reflect
Let us begin in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Welcome everyone to our thanksgiving liturgy. I would like to Acknowledge the Gadigal people who are the traditional custodians of this land. I would also like to pay respect to Elders both past and present of the Eoura nation and extend that respect to other Aboriginal people present.
Praise the Lord. Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.
As a class, we will now come together and make a world wall of things that we are thankful for either today or everyday. After you have finished and read some of the words, you will split into groups of 4-6 and make a short (30 second) song or poem about what you are thankful for! Here is an example:
Let us reflect on thanksgiving and what this means to us. Let us sit for a minute and quietly think of someone or something in your life that might deserve a thank you that you don't really give them everyday.
When someone considers thanksgiving they first think of the American holiday. However, this is different in the Catholic Church. For us (Australia/ Catholics) the real definition is the deep and simple expression of gratitude, especially to God. So instead of trying to americanize everything one must think of the true meaning of thanksgiving - to say thanks to all the things we
have and the close people within our lives. Thanksgiving is not only the celebration of the American tradition but it is to celebrate the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. In Australia we still celebrate thanksgiving on the 30th of May ( last Saturday in May each year).
THANKSGIVING - Thanks be to God
1 Thessalonians 5:18
Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
Thank you, Father, for having created us and given us to each other in the human family. Thank you for being with us in all our joys and sorrows, for your comfort in our sadness, your companionship in our loneliness. Thank you for yesterday, today, tomorrow and for the whole of our lives. Thank you for friends, for health and for grace. May we live this and every day conscious of all that has been given to us.
