HIPPA violation consequences:
From $100 to $50,000 per violoation
Up to $1.5 Million a year
Prison Sentence:
From 1 to 10 years
You can be fined even if you "unknowingly" disseminate patient information

Information about a patient can be shared:
By the patient
Between health care providers of the patient
Must be done privately
Should only be in regard to their care
Should not be the subject of "small talk" or gossip
Using social media to discuss a patient is inappropriate

1. Citing misleading information
2. Using patient images without consent
3. Misrepresenting Credentials
4. Inappropriately contacting patients
Depicting alcohol intoxication or showing alcohol without intoxication
Violating patient confidentiality
Using discriminatory or derogatory speech
Using derogatory speech toward patients
Providing clinical narratives without violation of confidentiality
People may harm their reputation or the company's reputation
Reputation may be harmed by participation in certain:
Social activities (drinking, gambling/racing, smoking)
Pictures (inappropriate dress, inappropriate poses)
Affiliations (certain groups or organizations)
A bad reputation may deter patients from the facility or caregiver due to lack of trust in the care giver or facility
Medical staff may use hospital equipment to access social media such as:
They may also use their own personal computers, tablets, cellphones, and laptops
While accessing social media in the workplace, there is an obvious decrease in:
Unless they are accessing because it is in their job description (i.e. marketing), they are not working and should not be paid.
