How To Tell Time: Hours Parts of the Clock Face How To Tell Time: Half Hour Let's Practice Hours Let's Practice Half Hours Let's Tell Time 1.MD.3 Hands The Long Hand The Short Hand The face shows the numbers. The numbers 1-12 are on the face of a clock. The hands show the hours and the minutes. The long hand shows the minutes The short hand shows the hours Step 1 We look at the hour (short) hand What number is it pointing to? Step 2 We look at the minute (long) hand When the big hand's at the top, we say "o'clock." Step 1 We look at the hour hand. It will be between two numbers, we say the smaller number Step 2 We look at the minute hand. When the big hands pointing down, we say "30" Step 3 We say 4 o'clock We write 4:00 Step 3 We say one-thirty We write 1:30 Where Do the Hands Go? 1:00 12:00 6:00 12:30 4:30 8:30
