maggie and milly and molly and may
maggie and milly and molly and may
went down to the beach(to play one day)

and maggie discovered a shell that sang
so sweetly she couldn’t remember her troubles, and

milly befriended a stranded star
whose rays five languid fingers were;

and molly was chased by a horrible thing
which raced sideways while blowing bubbles:and

may came home with a smooth round stone
as small as a world and as large as alone.

For whatever we lose(like a you or a me)
it’s always ourselves we find in the sea

maggie
In e.e. cummings poem

it states "maggie discovered a shell that sang so sweetly she couldn't remember her troubles" the meaning of maggie's name is "pearl" when it referes to the shell it means that maggie always has something troubling on her mind and needs a moment to forget and escape reality.

In the poem

it states that milly "befriended a stranded star who's rays five languid fingers were"the meaning of the name milly is "mild in strength"and the meaning of the star is that milly doesn't have a lot of friends and was left behind or alone at one point so she and the starfish were in need of a friend.
In the poem
maggie and milly and molly and may
it states that "molly was chased by a horrible thing which raced sideways while blowing bubbles" the meaning of molly's name is "rebellion and bitter" and we think that the horrible thing is a crab and molly gets chased by it because she has a big head and is full of herself.
In the poem
maggie and milly and molly and may
it states that "may came home with a smooth round stone as small as a world as large as alone".the meaning of the name may is child of light and the round stone represents that may realizes she alone in the world.

Essay paragraph 1
In e.e. cumming's poem "maggie and milly and molly and may" it says "For whatever we lose (like a you or a me) it's always ourselves we find in the sea." The poem means that the ocean can be a peaceful place where you can see
shells, stones, and starfish.
In the poem maggie is hearing a shell singing, milly befriended a stranded star, molly was chased by a
horrible thing,
and may came home with a smooth round stone these symbols are important because it describes how the four girls react to life
Essay paragraph 2
The ocean may be beautiful and peaceful, however it holds dark dangerous creatures underneath. In stanza four of the poem it tells that molly was chased by a horrible creature which is evidence that the sea is not always a safe place
