Transcript of Deforestation

Deforestation Why we should stop deforestation. Why deforestation is happening. Every two seconds 1.5 acres are destroyed in the Amazon. Over 120 commonly used prescription drugs come from plants in the Amazon. The Amazon provides 20% of the world's oxygen. The Amazon was home to over 10 million Indians but only 200,000 remain. Two-thirds of the world's fresh water supply resides in the Amazon basin. Up to 120 species of plants and animals are becoming extinct every day. The Amazon is home to millions of undiscovered plants and animals. The forest is cut down mainly for agriculture using the slash and burn technique to save money. Ty Sullivan
Andrew Peterson
Matt Ingvaldson Deforestation is the only source of income for poor countries. The forest needs to be cut down so cities can expand. Cutting the trees down will stop the trees from releasing harmful gases into the air when they decay. Wood is needed to make thousands of common structures and household items. Deforestation will ballance the ecosystem in the area and may help scientists discover unknow species.
