Barack Obama He is the 44th President of the United States He is the first African American to be President This is very significant because for many years black people were disrespected and treated badly He was awarded the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize Early Years Born in 1961 in Hawaii to an American mother and an African father His mother remarried and went to live in Indonesia with her new husband. Obama lived with his grandmother in Hawaii He has said that growing up in Hawaii taught him to value and respect different cultures
He went to university in New York and studied political science (how to become President) and international relations. Later he studied law at Harvard (a top university) Family - greatest inspiration Obama is married to Michelle and he has two daughters, Malia aged 10 and sasha aged 8. He is a devoted family man. Barack Obama wrote a letter to his daughters and in it he explained that they were his main inspiration behind his goal to be President "In the end, girls, that's why I ran for president: because of what I want for you and for every child in this nation." Barack Obama has inspired millions of people all over the world and he inspires me! He wants to make sure poor Americans can get good health care. He wants to help bring about world peace He wants countries to work together to control climate change If you ask Obama the question, "Can we make the world a better place?"
He has a famous reply consisting of 3 words .......... YES WE CAN!!! Achievements - why is he famous? He is the 44th President of
