A mole of paper clips is exactly 602,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 paper clips, but how can we put this into perspective?
How many chains
could we make with one mole of paper clips?
A mole of paper clips is 6.02*10 paper clips
There are 1.34877192982*10 paper clips in a chain.
(6.02*10 ) / (1.34877192982*10 ) = amount of chains you can make with 1 mole of paperclips
(6.02*10 ) / (1.34877192982*10 ) = 4.46331945891*10 chains
With a mole of paper clips, we could create 4.46331945891*10 chains reaching from the Earth’s surface to the surface of the Moon.


How many moles of
paper clips do we manufacture in one year?
Manufacturers put out about 9kg (9,000g) of paper clips
every year. The mass of one paper clip is 1g. Therefore, manufacturers put out about 9,000 paper clips every year.

9*10 paper clips are produced every year
(9*10 ) / (6.02*10 ) = percentage of a mole that is produced annually in paper clips

Assuming you do not accidentally miss the wire where you are supposed to clip, each time you link two paper clips together, it takes about 1 second. Therefore, if a person had a mole of paper clips that they could link together, it would take about 6.02*10 seconds to finish linking every single one. There are 8.64*10 seconds in a day. Therefore, it would take (6.02*10 )*(8.64*10 ) = 52.0128*10 =
