Librarians can use console games in a variety of ways in the library
-Programing, check-out
For check-outs, librarians need to pay attention to ratings just like with movies
Libraries need to consider whether they will put restrictions on who can check out what in regards to the ratings.

Why do libraries keep games in their collection?
It is the responsibility of libraries to help communities keep up with a constantly evolving technological world.
Video Games in the Library
Within gaming programs: 64 % used consoles, 35% used board games and 13% used computer games
Guitar Hero and Wii Sports were the most popular devices used in library programs
Programs can include console games in tournaments to draw in teens and preteens

Console games have become more social in nature with narrative and character development as the main focus, along with multiple player options.

Most common goal of console gaming programs is to bring in the under served and increase community center use.
Outcomes for console gaming programs include improved reputation of the library.
Program attendees return to the library for non-gaming activities or services.

Board games have been used in libraries dating back as early as 1933 (chapter 2, 2008, p. 7).
Board games based off of children's books can take reading to another level.
For older patrons, these games based on literary classics are a must in libraries!
These games are the perfect ending to book club meetings!
Some games are too complex for certain age groups
Some games aren't easily or quickly learned

Participate in ALA's International Games Day or hold video game championships for the community at the library.
Video games can be an easy way for librarians to relate to teenage patrons. Librarians should familiarize themselves with video games that are popular among teens in order to give a better RA interview.
